When I saw Frank's collection went to auction after he left us, at first I was sad. Then I realized - that's exactly what Frank would have wanted. auction, so other collectors could enjoy. 05:36 sums it up - Frank at his happiest. Thank you for sharing it with us!
This is a tribute to my uncle. When he was a small boy he wanted a train set but hiss mom and dad could not afford one!

To any non "in-the-know" enthusiast....just ONE of the brown state sets in 100% original condition commands $5000 or more in this condition. That gives you an idea of the value of this collection. Amazing!
How much is one of the Peacock Green O Gauge full sets in almost perfect condition? 0-4-0 passenger train from the ‘30’s if that helps

I had a feeling he was no longer with us. What an amazing ability he had. To create a museum of joy like that. Sad it didn't remain, but I'm sure that collection secured the family with funding and other collectors creating something similar have a great chance to have their dreams come true. Frank was a good caretaker. Thank you Frank. I can only imagine what your heaven looks like!
That is the most impressive collection of pre-WW2 Lionel trains I have ever seen! For as much popularity as the post-WW2 trains have, and rightly so, I prefer the classic styling of the pre-WW2 era. If I were him, I'd insure that entire collection. It must be worth a fortune!
He's been dead since the 90's, the collection was sold off in 2014

I really dont understand all the negative comments. This man collected and did what made him happy. He had the money to spend on his collection and he did just that. He didnt have to share with anyone. No hate here. Save your money and buy your favorites when they come up for sale.
Because they think he's a stupid nerd who lives in his parents basement most non-railfans think of us as being like the know it all kid from the polar express

Thanks Mr. Petruzzo for taking us away from this very mixed up world (pandemic sars 20 covid; vintage 2020). Your collecting, operating and obsession pursuits of these wonderful standard gauge beauties are truly worth much more than their monetary value; they are a trip back to a time when mankind was less selfish, greedy and mean. And your final explanation at the show's end sums up very nicely why those of us who truly love these toy machines enjoy sharing with others. Our hope is that perhaps these current world events, slow the world long enough for folks to find us engaging in this hobby and giving us a chance to enjoy this world we do have now a bit more and hopefully attract them to join us!

What a layout in length! you'll also notice in 0:33 the line-up of State sets. two shelves up is the order-only (and elusive) 408e in state green, and on the top shelf is and even more rare set with the steam engine!

Yes. He passed away in 1994 from heart failure. His family auctioned off his world class collection in 2014.
We gotta know if he found that third car!

Reading the comments, I am surprised that a few of you want to complain about this man doing what he loved. If you want to complain about people driving prices up and the common man out of a hobby, please go to over to the bourbon section of youtube, Leave this guy's memory alone.
By the looks of Frank's display shelves...he does not live in earthquake country! And...he knows he has the financial foundation to build his fine Std. Gauge empire!!
Standard gauge is definitely not dying, most standard gauge engines are selling for 50% to double the value in not even close to mint condition
Frank must have limitless amounts of money. I’ve been collecting for 30 years and have a substantial collection but do not own ONE state set or Blue comet set. In order to acquire sets like these in the condition they are in you could search a lifetime to find one. Even if money is no object.

In the UK, where I live SG and O is rare as hens teeth, If I want to import, everything cost double because of ridiculous shipping charge by some greedy sellers, and customs duty......Look on Ebay for yourself.

@@tonyromano6220LIonel Cohen made these childrens toys and are meant to be played with by kids of all ages ,by all means collect and save a few mint sets , but all around the walls from floor to ceiling in thousands of homes ? they're not in a museum for all to see but just for one man and not being used , such a waste, bumping the value up to ridiculous levels for those with deep pockets preventing others not so fortunate from having the chance to buy for a reasonable price.
The truth hurts,train collecting vintage and new has got out of financial and literally physical reach for most folks, it's not being political.I love to restore trash bin Lionel and other makes,bringing them back to full working and good cosmetic condition and they are carefully stored in a few cardboard boxes all year ready to be used at Christmas like they should be.
Personally I hate collectors like this... Destroys 50 rare Original sets in decent condition to make 11 mint conditions sets... Thankfully MTH is making reproductions of all these trains for normal people
Dylan Hale Dude he just swapped out the parts on them, I personally don't scrap or sell engines or cars, but I will in a tough time for finding parts swap the parts onto another engine and then buy parts for the other once I find them
