    Wow, you did it exactly like i did mine! i had like 0.2mm gap for liners after they went into LN and the block into oven and was able to put all of em in at once! Also, let me guess, Land rover liners +1mm on the outside? :) I really hope you put the block on the Press after you let it cool down!! Assembling mine this weekend. Greetz from Germany

      @@adrianask9519 Because the end product is under torque it would make sense to CNC is under the same conditions.

      @@robertfontaine3650 cnc uses something called lasers and probe sensors for the old spring hone tools you need a torque plate but that tool in that machine it does not need torque plates for the probe and lasers measures in thous so it calculates what is being taken away while honing. When you use a cnc millers or lathe the same thing that makes wheel bearing spindles to press fit and they fit perfect as long as the calculations are input right in the machine these end products can be checked with micrometers and bore gauges these are 100% correct! If the bore has been over bored too much the machinist do not know what he is doing fully. You should check in bore gauge all the time to make sure end product is correct. But as for CNC they do not make mistakes unless probe or lasers is faulty and the machine will not operate. When the tool go outwards that is how the machine knows how much is removed and also the zero reference point would have been picked up and mark by the probe before the machining process begins to mark the axis on X and Y where they start and stop. These machines are very precise that is why they are use to machine every modern engine block because they are so precise on measurement.

      @@adrianask9519 I don't think you understand what a torque plate is or does

    • @adrianask9519
      @adrianask9519 4 года назад

      @@robertfontaine3650 all a torque plate does is to keep the top of the cylinder bore to exact bore size without one and using old hones stones with spring will make them a few thousands of an inch over bore! I learn that when I first honed a block out 1mm by hand drill and it worked compression great and everything no oil past rings but notices the top of the bore was over bore by 0.2 of a mm i learnt the hard way. The only thing i noticed was when taking the piston out the top of the bore it was a little loose nothing major when the rings expand when hot this problem went. Notice it also on bore gauge but since as the piston rings are so far down in the bore this was not a problem down in the bore was within tolerance 5mm at the top was over. The cnc machine is what made the same torque plate you are going on about. After block skim should not be a major problem you will only get minor piston slap on first start up if the bore is over bored too much down over 5mm in. This will go away after engine is warmed up.

      I was thinking about kompressor(supercharger) but to convert this car to proper 3.0 facelift I need 6speed gearbox,diff,driveshafts,ect. This block and later cylinder head took a long trip to get new life (not UK) so It was cheap comparing to UK prices :D

    • @yorkitea
      @yorkitea 6 лет назад

      wow supercharger i bet that would cost a few pounds i was thinking a ebay turbo kit around £155 just to get a bit more out of the engine low boost so you dont have to spend to much at first lol. yes uk prices would be somthing daft for this to be done its nice to watch it thanks for getting them to record it

    • @codenamecordon
      @codenamecordon 6 лет назад

      yorkitea what ever you do, do not get a 155£ eBay turbo kit. There can’t be any quality for that money and you’ll be just buying headaches. The turbo itself should be 3-4x that money at the very least, same goes for the manifold.

    You do know changing the distance of the hight of the block changes or head, how ever small, will retard the cam due to reducing the distance from the cam to the crank gear. The cams will have to be re-degreed. Power gain is made by advancing the cam timing.

    • @Marus1233
      @Marus1233 2 года назад +3

      With all due respect, have you ever seen a camshaft from an M54 engine? The camshaft sprocket is not fixed to the camshaft itself due to the presence of a double vanos system. Every time you put the timing together, you are resetting their relative position using a set of alignment tools. Check 50skid video on that subject.

    • @2swecompany
      @2swecompany 5 лет назад

      He's replacing the iron liners inside of the block. The block is made out of Aluminium, which is a softer metal, so what he's doing is boring out the block in order for him to place in stronger liners and then cutting them to be flat with the deck surface. This is done to strengthen the block so it can handle more power.

    No torque plate tisk tisk tisk. This will result in those cylinders being out of Round by 1 to 2 thousandths, which is what all the people on the forum cry about with poor ring seal and piston noise. Torque plate allows tighter piston clearance and better ring seal. It is such an easy step for finish honing and absolutely necessary on cast aluminum blocks running 4 head bolts per cylinder. I guess it doesn't matter too much for regular engine use but even then stock is performance levels.

The tools used to machine hat block is the tool used to make a torque plate! the tool used is cnc controlled the tools used fot that is not cheap these guys clearly by tools of choice surely not novice at doing this kind of job very smart engineers!

    • @curvs4me
      @curvs4me 4 года назад

      @@adrianask9519 it's got nothing to do with the torque plate itself. BMW blocks especially will be out of round by design until the head studs/bolts are torqued. This distorts the cylinder wall. Proper Blueprinting uses torque plate for final hone at a minimum. If you check the cylinders machined without a torque plate and they are round, they will be slightly out of round after being torqued. Especially critical for German Nicasil or exposed silicate bores. I was only making a joke anyway, to each his own. Just remember these little suckers love to puff oil smoke, any little thing helps.
