I typically cover video games, comics, movies, and the like, but occasionally I like to share some personal info, good or bad. Last year, I developed arthritis in my right knee, which prevents me from doing my favorite thing in the world: long-distance riding on my bicycle. Full-court basketball is also impossible. Fortunately, I can still hike (to some degree), walk dogs, and do other things I love, but this is a pretty big setback. Fortunately, life is pretty good overall.

My knees are messed up too, but not from arthritis. My car was totaled by a careless driver. My knees hit the dash hard. They pop and go out all the time ever since. Walking up and down stairs totally sucks now. The big issue I've been dealing with most now is having an eye condition called Keratoconus in both of my eyes. The right one is all blurry to that point that I'm totally blind in that eye. If you took my left eye away from me and left me in the middle of nowhere I would just be crawling around yelling hoping not to hurt myself. I'm getting a surgery soon, but Medicaid wouldn't cover it so I'm looking at a $5,000 bill. I didn't make much money last year, so to me $5K is a lot of money. Can you imagine what it's like to be a gamer that can hardly see? It's awful!
Anyhow, sorry to hear about your knees. I totally understand what it's like to suddenly not be able to do what you like to do most. Maybe CBD would help you out? It could be worth a try. But that's just my opinion.
Oh, wow, I'm really sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing. That's got to be rough. :(
Hi Brett, sorry you are going through this. I hope you’ll explore all options and get the very best of medical advice before surrendering to these limitations. I’ve recently had serious vision problems. Talk about life changing! The local specialist here had the good sense to send me to a clinic in Boston, which has world caliber experts and ghostbusters-like tech equipment available nowhere else in all of New England. Long story short, my local specialist had way misunderstood the problem and my vision is now restored. Knee surgery isn’t necessarily a radical option; just get multiple opinions until you feel there’s a consensus on the problem and whether or not surgery will put you back on your bike for 10-15 years.
Thanks, James! (Jeff!) :)
I can understand the frustration about arthritis; it runs rampant in my family. There may be some kind of painkiller you can take, if you're not already doing so. But your best bet would be to talk to your doctor when you see her again, as you'd mentioned. Regardless, I hope you'll be able to adjust to this lifestyle change and can find alternatives to the long-distance biking and basketball playing. :)
Thanks, Pete!
Sorry! To hear about this Brett. I can sympathize with you. I have had trouble in both of my knees, I even had minor surgery on my right knee, ten years ago. I do remember my knee popping out of place. The operation did help ! My situation was because of my work. I would stand on my feet up to 8 hours a day. It has taken a toll on my body. I have been working as of this month 41 years. Hope this gives you a little insight what's going on! Hang in there!
Thanks for sharing, Dane!
@@BrettWeissRetroGamer Your Welcome! I am thinking about retiring! I have worked a long, long time!
@@danestegman155 If you can afford to, go for it! :)
Bummed to hear, Brett.
Thank you
Its rough when you cant do what your passionate about. Hang in there Mr. Weiss.
Thank you, I will!
I can sympathize, man. I've never been in good shape honestly growing up a fat kid, but the end result is arthritis in my knees and ankles. It makes it hard to be active at all which compounds the issue.
Maybe they can give you cyborg knees!
That would rock!
Saw you at Houston Arcade Expo 2019 in Nov.
I'm sorry to hear about this, but you need to do what's best for you.
Thanks, kind of you to say
Howdy AT! :)
Sorry man. I still ride and play rec sports and we are close in age. Docs can do amazing things with joint pain.
Looking forward to my appointment to get some answers.
Sorry to hear about this Brett!! I love playing basketball and I love the NBA, as well as classic rock/metal and of course video games so it’s such a shame one of these things has been taken away!! I used to have a bike and loved riding around my area listening to Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, KISS, AC/DC etc. but haven’t in several years. Now I’m really considering getting a new bike and doing what I did 10 years ago at age 15!
Yes, get yourself a bicycle!! :) Thanks, Bryan.
No way!! I'm really sorry to hear this. I know you love cycling as much as I do. But you know...you can get a dirt bike! :) You'd look cool on one, could get a goofy Spartan helmet, and living in Texas you have loads of places to ride.
I have a dirt bike, too. Just sayin'. Two wheels are just two wheels :p
Thanks. I hear ya. I'm not much of a motorcycle guy, but I have considered getting a motorized bicycle. :)
