I love the bickering between Jill and Eustace! I couldn't stop laughing just now ... even though I've watched these now about a dozen times ... it's hysterical! And then when Puddleglum anti-climacticly and full of cynicism boldly announces "and then .... we're off... " and sort of trails off! It's perfect!!!!
I agree with Gill for wanting the bow and arrows. If Puddleglum and Ustis have swords, it's only fair and logical she has the bow and arrows so that way everyone has a main weapon. A knife wont help her in a fight if her enemy has a blade that's bigger then hers- an arrow can keep the enemies away from her.
The conversation between Puddleglum, Eustace and Jill was probably a better bit of acting than anything in the entire Disney Narnia series so far. That's pretty sad..
My first episode seen too! And, as many other posting comments, I have remembered it best and I will continue to remember it as long as I live, at least I hope so ^^
One line he didn't get in this part, at the bridge was saying "It might be a sorcerer's bridge! We have to be careful of enchantments in a place like this."
Thanks! This is the essence of the books, never mind the special effects. In a stage production they would be considered magnificent. New tech doesn't always produce good films when the authors can only show war to fill the gaps of imagination, or even replace joy and dance with yet another battle. Why should the 4 children have liked to be in Narnia so much if all they ever met there was hunger. fear and battle? Why do filmmakers leave out all the fun and make you buy the special ed. for more?
it's meant to be a strange creature in the books that lives in the wet marshes. unfortunately the bbc didn't have the expertise at the time (see the doctor who episodes around that period!) and so it was just a bloke with a big hat!
Tom Baker was perfect at this role. Im looking forward to the Disney version but I which both the BBC and Disney would cover the other novels (Magician's Nephew, Horse and his Boy and Last Battle too)
@karateka8 a goodquestion. It could be because the studios think those stories would be harder to market... spend a budget on and so on. The Last Battle is quite complex so I can appreciate that being hard to pu on screen but I can envisage The Horse and his Boy.
finrodbrs they didn’t but changed it in the adaptation from the book, so they did meet a dragon. Love how understated Eustace is saying, “I know a thing or two about dragons”. 🐉 He had turned dragon in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
@icekat83 I would as well; I think the whole concept of the coloured rings and so on could be done. The Last Battle may be too complex to adapt to screen. Hell I might become a director myself just to make them all!
jut out your jaw so your bottom teeth sit further out then your top teeth, leaving a gap, and let your lips stick up, making a gap about half a centimeter between your lips, then blow, and voila', you too can puff your bangs! (my mum used to get up me for doing it to sass her when she was telling me off :P)
You know C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were writing their works simultaneously right? They were friends and used to meet up to discuss their work. Also Gandalf is a heroic wizard, Puddleglum is just a moaner who turns out to be really brave.
Elizabeth Taylor Well, anyway, it's still a ripoff, but I guess that doesn't matter after all because LOTR is boring, preachy, unecessarily over-complicated and all that crap with girly-looking men with long hair hugging and shit creeps the Hell out of me. The early '80s Conan the Barbarian movie with Ah-nuld was much better than any LOTR stuff, especially when he punches that camel.
My favourite Narnia book and I love this adaptation. I remember watching it as a very young child on television. Wonderful. Thank you for uploading.
I LOVE Puddleglum. He's one of my favorite characters. :)

"Lets get packed.. then were're off"
lol... the way he verbally and physically deflated at the end, was priceless !
Man that song brings back my childhood

wOW This girl who plays Jill Pole was the best addition to the cast till now. Lovin' her
I remember those giants scared the crap out of me when i first saw this.
The Doctor as Puddleglum ... win!
It's that planet from 'The Power of Kroll' and the Doctor's become a 'swampie'.
I don't think there is anywhere in the world where anyone exclaims 'EARS!' as well as in 5:45. It is freaking priceless. EARS!!!!!
That was one heck of a river
One line he didn't get in this part, at the bridge was saying "It might be a sorcerer's bridge! We have to be careful of enchantments in a place like this."
I find the locations in this version to be better than in the Disney movies, more like they're described in the book, less flashy and more mysterious.

oh my God .... you totally get it!!!! I absolutely agree with you.
That's who he reminded me of! Thanks! lol
I loved Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor and l just think he is a great actor in whatever he does
"Makes them raaaaaather irritable."
They don't, but I guess it does connect to Eustace's experience as a dragon in VDT, probably what they were thinking when they made this.
"Life's not all eel pie and fricasied frogs you know." 🤣🤣🤣
The way the boulders land so close to the three travellers still scares the shit out of me!
just imagine if the doctor was like puddleglum lolol, he'd never get any companions
thank you, BBC, for not knowing the appropriate time to end a film.
Well it is a cliffhanger. Did Puddleglum get crushed... or not?
It's funny seeing Jill and Eustace arguing about weapons.
Snape is more of a mean fellow though. Puddleglum's more harmless sarcasm & depressed look on life.
I know, he sounds SO excited! lol
I was surfing about on Wikipedia, and discovered Mr. Baker had been puddleglum. after some searching I found this and had a fangirl episode....
yeah, i could just picture him living in a blue box instead of a tent and that he's actually an alien
The giants used to scare me as a kid

haha the other marshwiggles say puddleglum doesnt take life seriously enough
man, i want to see jill useing a bow and arrows.
It's not fair!!!!
Puddleglum really is an old dear. =)

Be careful, children. He won't drop you off in South Croyden. It will be more like Aberdeen!
These movies follow the books better than Adamson's adaptation...
Εustace the Dragonborn. :3
@karateka8

It's been a while since I've read Silver Chair, but when did they run into a dragon?

puddleglum used to scare the shit outta me when i was little!
the dragon scene didn't happen in the book xD
@icekat83

So, Jill took Lucy's knife? But she wants Susan's bow and arrows?
@ghostgirlXmcr I'm in 2111 and watching it too.
God, Puddleglum is the shit, isn't he? They need to make another Silver Chair. :[
Hehe, the perfect anticlimax.
Maybe, if you forget, you can watch it again.
indeed- he is a 'Marshwiggle'
the guy who plays puddle glum also plays the Docter

@Atripple what is TVM?
poor puddle guy!
He could not say
-Where of.
Any better
I mean 'wish'
Man, what a lousy stand-in for Gandalf. I fucking hate all these ripoffs of Tolkien's stuff like this shit, Harry Potter and etc.
*****
No. He's based on Wotan.
You know C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were writing their works simultaneously right? They were friends and used to meet up to discuss their work. Also Gandalf is a heroic wizard, Puddleglum is just a moaner who turns out to be really brave.

Well trolled sir
2:05 - 2:22
Good grief Puddleglum, what are you spooked about? You live in a swamp, for pete's sake!
Puddleglum? Flighty? As in jolly? You're joking?
It's "Pole", her surname.
