I am 73 years old was a professional sailor my whole life still working as a tow master in offshore project but did a lot of sailing in me spear time on different yachts but the gunboats are for me the best ever bild never sail on one but always love the videos.
Many years ago spying the first gunboat on the horizon we pioneers in different technologies were sure- this team this idea and this concept will be a top of the top - thanks to the gunboat actives to have reached this... just stunning
Wow a fun sail for sure, not so many large performance cats around. Plenty of ceature comforts. A good balance of destiny and journey life style. Cool cometary from Saun
Have not studied the Gunboat helms in enough detail, but this one seems best, and nearest Chris White's Atlantics. The front line handling area is better defined than the smaller Gunboats, and the dual wheel setup is very logical and simple mechanically. The inside helm is very well protected and has great visibility.
Sean, you did a wonderful job on presenting this unique yacht. As a person whose father and hence his family hail from NI it seems to be a thing for others. My relatives don’t slow their speech. As for the yacht it would be an impressive racing yacht as you know, plus a comfortable cruising family yacht. I think she would be a dream to own and sail on. Honestly at a decent speed, the outside would be the place to be, wind in your face seeking the best winds for your run.
wow. Sean you are a master salesman for yachts. I don't know a lot about boats. But I do know physics and the physics of sailing. Better than you might guess. I do not claim to be a sailor. I claim to be a theoretical physicist who creates models of the way things work just for fun. Thank you for the tour. Nice job.
I’ve watched hundreds of RUclips videos about luxury sailing yachts, imo Gunboat Catamarans (with no flybridge) are the BEST OF THE BEST sailing vessels on the ocean. Imagine that: this 78 foot thing goes 30+ knots, slicing its way through the blue ocean taking its passengers wherever they want to go!
Only 243 years of work left and I have enough money for this beautiful boat. A dream almost within my grasp. What I need are time, discipline and a strong belief in my success 😃😃😃 I really love this boat 🙂
It's a Ferrari on the water for sure but not really suitable for long term live aboard cruising. To have as a comfortable racer or great holiday cruiser/racer would be beautiful. One thing the carbon yacht manufacturers never show examples of is the interior noise in choppy or rough seas. You hear about this from racers but yet to actually hear it.
Funny how Sean has to talk so slowly so people can understand his accent...as a Belfast-man, or dare I say it, a 'Belfastard' I know what he's going through. Northern Irish people do talk quickly and we are a nightmare to make out when in full flow.
The builder of that Gunboat doesn't exist anymore. All that remains after a second bankruptcy is the name under a new management, and that in France. The performance of the current Gunboats is on another whole new level that beats this "old" design by miles.
I don’t understand the trimaran for long voyages...it’s good in very calm waters, but going further afield is just misery. The Сat goes smoothly, without bouncing. Because there are no additional floats with their buoyancy
Gunboats are cool and you always hear the 'sailing Yachttuber' snobs that only believe in sailing, how great they are, but also how outrageously expensive they are. A 50' Gunboat that needs a ton of work was on one couple's list of possible yachts, but then the money the owner wanted for it was way too much. Then they found another one that was around 60' and need new rigging, new interior, new sails, new tender, and loads of other stuff. The guy wanted 2.2 million for it. But this was when boat prices were at their peak.
Gunboats always command a huge price because of the allure and mystique surrounding them. Same thing in the automotive world with long established exotic brands like Ferrari. You always pay more than what you get when you compare what else is available for a similar price. A new McConaghy is probably in the same ball park, but you can configure it the way you want when it's a new build. Performance would not be far off from this yacht. That said this is a very beautiful and exclusive yacht for those who can afford it.
Great content but I miss the tours you used to give. Now it seems the broker is more focused on advertising the boat rather then you giving your honest opinion about the boat
Incredible catamaran. But, the price is staggering and so is also the fact, that the accommodation resembles or is less commodious than many 60 feet catamarans. For that matter, try to compare the space of this one with the space inside a Neel 65 trimaran, that cost a third brand new. And people blame Neel for being build at a price point: I hope those people got deep pockets then! But, very beautiful yacht this and the performance numbers also speak for themselves. One interesting fact is though, that most of the time live aboard sailors spend in excess of 90% of their time at anchor or dock: Performance then don't matter much, but comfort and space do!
Exactly. After purchasing my latest boatest sailboat I went again went Mono. No way would I pay this price for a Cat. Constant slapping. Nor will it tack as quickly as my Mono. I owned one cat and never again. Yes some great performance numbers but that matters little to me while at anchor or dock.
Oh come on! Comparing a Gunboat to a Neal trimaran? That's like comparing a Bugatti Veyron to your mate's mom's Toyota Avanza. This is really not about how much space you're getting for your money. I've sailed aboard a couple of Gunboats and have had a snoop around a Neel. They are two very different beasts, aimed at two VERY different markets. And when you go offshore the differences will become even more apparent. Quickly.
This beautiful boat is going to fit a very narrow margin of customers. For me its too big, requires crew & has galley down. Rest of it is boatiful. Id like to hear more on the performance capabilities. 30knts. Really?
the boat cruises at 14knts. If it ever managed to achieve anything close to 30knts, you'd have your life jacket on and be inside. Not sure who who want to buy this boat. Can't be sailed by a husband and wife, so maybe a rich single guy with lots of buddies
look i love gunboat i really do but they must be drunken mad asking that kinda price for a 78 foot sailing catamaran i mean good for them but a 100k per foot is ridiculous
I want an 80ft to a 100ft aluminum Ketch or Schooner that can go anywhere in any weather. It should be unsinkable, un-capsize-able, un-run-aground-able, economical, low maintenance, luxurious and tasteful. I like the 92ft Palmer Johnson 'Sunday Morning' with a centerboard for its survive-ability (but I don't like its interior), the 89ft 'Spirit of Venice,' again, for its surviv-ability(but I don't like the interior), and the 78ft Nordia Van Dam ' Ophira V" for the layout and decor of the interior and the deck saloon and pilot house(but it doesn't have centerboard). The 92ft 'Carmella' and 88ft Jongert 'Vivid' aren't too different. I, initially, wanted a ketch, but, now, am even open to schooners after I saw a movie of the 85ft 'Wanderbird' going through the Drake Passage in a violent storm during the 1930s(when it most likely didn't even have an engine, so would have had to rely on the foremast for propulsion). I earlier thought that the foremast, because of its placement close to the bow, might be a hassle going against the wind because it would constantly need the rudder to counteract the drift. I also like the modern interiors on the CNBs, but they are all fair-weather. I also like the Garcia 60 Exploration Yacht for its go-anywhere design, but at 60ft, it's a little cramped. I need a yacht that is around 78ft. I heralded the post-2000s revolution in catamarans through my advocacy for its adoption because of the shallow draft, the wide beam, the low structure, wide indoor spaces, economy and speed, but, since these would have problems in the polar regions, I would now want to settle for a ketch( for storm-safety) or a schooner(for speed). initially, i wanted redundancy in everything--twin engines, twin screws, twin rudders, and twin centerboards, but now I've decided to lower my expectations. I don't want a sloop because I don't like tall masts in stormy seas. I like sailing yachts for their autonomy, surviv-ability (because of a rather flat superstructure), and economy. With solar panels and props to generate electricity under wind, one can get a decent degree of autonomy with backup generators. If I had the money to buy a motor yacht, I'd buy the Auroux 'Odyssey/Alucia' for the helicopter and submarine hangars, adequate range, useful layout"(saloon, sundeck, sky lounge, fly bridge, owner's suite, media/room office, hospital, and workshop etc), and pleasing interior. Unless I can take a helicopter and a small submarine with me, I'd prefer a sailing yacht. There are also smaller and more economical yachts with helicopter hangars(like the one built in New Zealand) whose name I've forgotten(TF-6 or something), but they won't have as good a charter potential as the Alucia/odyssey which might be of interest to even large institutions.
You have to be a hard core sailor to like this yacht. It's way too expensive! Just look at what you can get for this kind of money. Give me a fully electric cruising cat before this one, and I'll have change for a lot of toys.
If you don't understand why this is so expensive it's because you don't understand it's construction, materials and intended use. Go buy a Hunter 30, you'll feel like you won the lottery.
It would be a cold day in Hell before Id spend the money required to purchase a top end Cat. Monos for the same money are just far superior in delivering that high quality sailing experience one desires at this level. I hate the slapping you get with a cat of any size and cost. Mono hulls also just handle better. A Monohull will tack quickly, is much more manoeuvrable and is faster to respond to the helm than a catamaran. Monohulls slice through the water effortlessly.
@@supertuscans9512 Its sailing genius. If you desire to go faster and faster than buy a boat with a couple 8 cylinder inboard engines. I've never understood idiots in their Cats being speed junkies. They are missing the whole point of sailing in its purest forms.
Cat sailing is one of the purest forms of sailing , in case you hasn’t noticed America’s Cup boats a cats with foils - I guess that’s not pure enough sailing for you😂😂😂😂
As a die hard monohull fan I agreed with you fully, I'm a delivery skipper, once I got into delivering cats I won't even set foot on a mono now, cats are just better in every aspect.
@@Frog13799 Then you are not agreeing with me. Monos are better. Not in all aspects but in the ones which matter to me. sailed 30 years. Nothign tacks like a mono nor rides like one. I don't like the constant slapping of a Cat. I don't care for speed either...if I want speed I take out my fishing boat 22ft Lund with a 200 outboard I do 50 and Im fine. Cats SUCK for the money you pay Id go high Mono 100% of the time

that gunboat's interiors is heads and shoulders above everything they've produced that I know of. magnificent.
The shape is great, awesome lines!

As far as 'racing' cats go this is one of the best. If this is your taste then its a must have if you can afford it.

He has a very laid back mannerism about him - amazing experience as a sailor too, we're lucky to have him on the team!
Beauty of a boat! 👍👍
I look at this thing and drool but then wonder where you can haul it out. Large ports only?
I would love a technical review as I am sure it has engines etc 🙃
Absolutely gorgeous💙
How do these performance cats behave with a “medium” wave? We always see them on flat seas..
Probably not so well. But those kind of yachts will never be in this conditions anyway. All of them has a very boring life (for a yacht)
The builder of that Gunboat doesn't exist anymore. All that remains after a second bankruptcy is the name under a new management, and that in France. The performance of the current Gunboats is on another whole new level that beats this "old" design by miles.
Outremer owns Gunboat now.

Please educate me. Why is this 2016 boat a similar price to a 2022 Sunreef 80 power which to me looks far better equipped other than having no masts?
Can a Sunreef sail at 30 knots using the wind? Gunboats are near racing boats. You are comparing a Volvo to a McLaren.

You can either afford one or you can’t. If you can’t go find something you can. It’s really that simple.
Amazing! Thank you.
The best thing about owning this would be telling your friends to wait at the pier and say "we're going to send a GUNBOAT!"
If that front was actually a trampoline that would be insane. Cruising 20-30 and jumping up and down. Boat has much more room then seems and looks fun
