It's fascinating to hear them talk about their profound knowledge of music theory. And quite keen ears as well! It must have taken years of training to perfect these skills.
It's really funny until you're sitting in a studio for 8 hours listening to a Berklee grad talk about their heroic melding of "Happy Birthday" and "Giant Steps".
Yeah, they're correct and they clearly know their stuff, it's just really disappointing to see someone go so deep into theory without even touching on real jazz legends like Mookie Kramer or Roy Donk.
Absolutely brilliant. Although it was hard for me to keep up with their music theory jargon, it was inspiring to see these music experts interact. I had no idea that all music was based on Farmer in the Dell. Now I know!
Very interesting observations. Thank you! I am always intrigued by these kinds of analyses. And I am a music teacher. So true. Pa papa papaaaa pa pa papa papaaaa. It is obvious. All music is redundant. All music has a common ancestor: Pa papa papaaaa pa pa papa papaaaaa // Pa pa papa papa papapapapapaaaa. Foreal. Also Philip Glass: Pa papa papaaaa papa papa papaaaa // Pa pa papa papa papa papa papaaaa. So this is why all minimalist music sounds the same.
"You know this from Bitches Brew"
*plays Farmer in the Dell*
Hey man sometimes you gotta keep it public domain AND hip as hell. Miles did a lot of straight C jamming.
OH FUCK ME
These guys get it. Miles Davis centered the bulk of his work on The Farmer in the Dell. You just need to open your ears and listen.
bulk of the series
Nice
using your ears...
I liked when Miles corrected Herbie Hancock on stage when he didn't end a song on the right trill. Which was, of course, Farmer in the Dell.
That moment inspired the Headhunters album.
"Don't play the farmer notes" - Miles Davis
"eventually he'll find way back here" lol I lost it
Man i'm so glad he was able to keep it in C. Helped me understand the concept and theory so much better. Great job!
if I'm Davis
anmainisto that was awesome lol. So good at acting
I’ll transpose it but I’ll keep it in c
I love Tom and Erin.
I thought he was gonna come in on the eight but he came in on the six !
For example I work in a pizza restaurant as a hostess- as a host
If you hear that 'Dell you know you got a winner.
Can't believe how well-versed these guys are, I could learn so much just from talking to them
It's from listening to endless half cocked conversations of TV and suburbanites. Satire'
This is the kind of stuff that makes sense when you're half asleep
lol 4:54 am right now
this is like 4+ years of millon dollar music school in under two minutes for free.
There was a singular "big bang" moment in the history of music, and that was the first time someone heard Farmer in the Dell.
I wish I could find that camptown races midi
What's funny is that they're completely right. We watched this in our college music theory class.
Watching it for my phD
Watching it for my MD
Watching it for P Did-e
Watching it for my BM
With songs like Farmer in the Dell in them, you can't lose

Oh, Carlos Santana doing Flamingo style is my favorite! One leg up, the other....we don't even know where it is.
Sadly though, most people can't listen past the Congahs.
I almost forgot to watch this today
This is one of the funniest things i've ever seen. Tim and Eric are fucking legends
the way the keys knock around when he plays
Miles Davis also wrote the lyrics the Crazy Town's "Butterfly"
But when it comes to establishing an actual melody point, here it is

Eric Andre is the only one to have ever graduated from there
2:11 The camera switch for him hitting a button was so needless... love it. No notes.
Yeah, they're correct and they clearly know their stuff, it's just really disappointing to see someone go so deep into theory without even touching on real jazz legends like Mookie Kramer or Roy Donk.

if anyone was wondering, this is the full thing from the original video. the original video doesn't have any other T&E footage.
thanks for clearing that up
Then those other parts are complete and utter waste of film footage and should be burned to ashes, shat on, and drenched in PItzman's mustard.
Absolutely brilliant. Although it was hard for me to keep up with their music theory jargon, it was inspiring to see these music experts interact. I had no idea that all music was based on Farmer in the Dell. Now I know!
Too much jargon

This is why the Beatles sing Frere Jacques in Paperback Writer. It's a Farmer In The Dell tribute.
The trick is getting past, ear-wise, the cown-gahz
Very informative. Wow! I didn’t know that....but I think I just subconsciously always recognized it.

If you listen to Carlos Santano, it's all Bruder Jacob influence up in there.
truly the key to understanding jazz is imagining the heroin.
Davis called it model music. It is the spaces between the farmer and the dell.
Who needs a soul and who needs god when your heart is a drum machine.
