Hey, im gonna throw this out there as well for anyone WHO HATES VI. my god that made it hard to edit. anyways, before CD into the directory, do "pkg installl nano", this will install Nano which is a linux text editor and makes it WAY easier. Install nano, then do "nano config.php" when you are cd'd to the correct directory and you can edit it WAY easier. just throwing that out there

that command doe snot work, returns no such file or directory. does it need sudo or something to work?
@@rkbest9783 i don't think you need sudo but give it a try sudo pkg install nano
I dont remember if I did that or just pkg install nano, but nano is significantly easier to use than VI
@@rkbest9783 it probably does. Try: sudo pkg install nano
and then put in your password for sudo and it should install nano

I get too many redirects after login. Firefox, Chrome, DHCP or NAT no matter. True NAS CORE version 12 U

Hello, thx for sharing! I followed exactly to the instruction and got my NextCloud setup in TrueNas. One final problem, the default upload size limit is 512mb .... how do I get that changed to a bigger limit?
Everything is installed- process was great. Stumbled a little in the shell but I got there. Around 6 minutes you talk about "putting some sort of security in here" but then you don't elaborate on that. Is that on the truenas side or the nextcloud side? A little confused?

@@KimAlbarran you could just assign a public domain to the IP, then use lets encrypt to generate a certificate.

@@KimAlbarran Oh no just wanting to give some advice here, I just bought a 8TB MY CLOUD HOME and I absolutely hated it, when i would upload files they would upload a literally less than one Mb a second! I returned it 1 week after buying it. but its definitely not my Wi-Fi because my download speeds are 350 MBPS and my upload it 300MBPS

You can install nano by issuing "pkg update". Then "pkg install nano".

Nice tutorial! I just finished syncing my iphone photos & videos with nextcloud following your guide. But, 1) my gui does not show any preview for videos, 2) if i play videos (.mov) I only hear audio with black screen. Photos work fine as expected. What could be missing.
This installation process is totally screwed in the newest update. None of that manage/post install notes show up, the user/password is totally missing from the install notes, and on last install attempt I got that same redirect issue. I'm just going to wait for the next update to truenas before I try this again.

I did everything exactly like you said but when I log on with the admin account found in the post install notes I get an error message from my browser saying to many redirects, clearing the cookies doesn't help NAT also doesn't make a difference.

Sorry stupid question, what is the key board command to escape out of the config.php file and save it after you add your ip address to trusted domain? You say "escape" and then type wq to save the document. Nothing happens when I hit the escape key.

your procedure is not working. Im running TrueNAS 12.0 and I just can't install Nextcloud plugin with this procedure. Im always getting an error message indicating jail is missing its configuration
Try creating an empty jail first

@@FromGamingwithLove0456 i think the next cloud repo got updated. I deleted my entire installation over the weekend and reinstalled it. I didn't run into any of the issues I ran into during my first attempt. Only thing I had to do was include my ip and domain name in the trusted domain in the config.php . Id suggested you try deleting and reinstalling.

Stuck at installing plugin!!! what to do
I'd love to move out from OMV to Truenas but for some reason R/W speeds to and fro Truenas is too slow but the same setup in OMV is fast. If you're curious about the numbers, if I'm transferring a Windows 10 ISO from my PC to Truenas its about 15-20mbps but if I do the same with OMV its 112mbps. Not sure why :(

Hey Kevin, I've recognized, that my nextcloud processing bar stucks when uploading folders with multiple files. The Files were uploaded successfully, but the bar stays. When refreshing, everything seems to be good. I have that issue on several nextcloud installs --> manually, docker, truenas plugin except NextCloudPi. Do you have an idea, where that comes from? I have a question - why would I need Nextcloud if I have TrueNas Core installed.. I can upload and download files right from TrueNas.. Is there a benefit of Nextcloud that I am not aware of? I have no need to reach my files remotely from the internet only through my local network..
Great easy to follow guide but I have one issue maybe you or someone can answer. The reason I wanted Nextcloud is to run the app on all the kids phones but I can’t seem to connect to my instance via the IP address on the app. Any ideas?

I am about to throw this server of mine off a bridge, the config in shell will not delete a a letter, the back space like doesn't freakin work, I was liking TrueNAS this is freakin stupid....

If I had to guess there is a problem with your config file. Restore old file and see if it fixes issue. If so check to make sure you did not forget a , or " when you edited your file

I'm trying to install the nextcloud plugin (21.0.1) on a fresh truenas (12.0-U3.1) and get several errors thrown near the end of the installation. When going to the nextcloud login page after installing, it also asks me to create a database instead of just having to login with ncadmin. Entering the info from the post install notes gives me:
Error while trying to create admin user: Failed to connect to the database: An exception occurred in the driver: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2054] The server requested authentication method unknown to the client.
Any ideas? When I installed truenas 12.0-U3 a few weeks ago on a test machine, the nextcloud plugin worked fine as shown in this video, but now I can't get it to run. Assuming the mysql version got updated?
I've been worried about everything for 3 days now. Everything worked and the update took place, and nexcloud is broken, again, the error messages that it was not possible to create a user, I think we will have to somehow manually in the jail at nexcloud. I think it still has only MySQl set, but MariaDB is present.
I too have recently had issues with the plugin. I did notice that the plugin has recently updated to mysql8. Nextcloud recently stopped supporting mysql5.
When you do a plug-in update usually there are snapshots taken so you can roll it back
@@GetMeTheGeek unfortunately this is a fresh install, so no roll back for me... From what I understand the new mysql8 version uses a different authentication method, but the plugin installation script is still using 'the old way' ? I hope this issue will be fixed soon, for now I have no idea how to get it to work.

What's the difference between NAT and DHCP??
The short answer is that DHCP will give you an IP on your network and NAT will make you use the IP of the TrueNAS to access your
NextCloud install.

@@GetMeTheGeek about the PDF error, it's a bug of that version of nextcloud caused by the names of the files with spaces or dash.
Got an error right off the bat. Clicked on install and let it run. While installing the pkg, it fails three times, and I get this error. I can't find anything in forums to explain this.

Check your TrueNAS network settings. Make sure you have Dns and gateway setup.
@@GetMeTheGeek Got it to install. Would not install as DHCP, but it had no problem Installing as NAT. Now that I have Nginx proxy manager setup, I am good to go.
@@GetMeTheGeek I can't seem to get the hang of how nextcloud keeps its files. I thought I would be able to install nextcloud and then be able to use it to view all of my files in my main dataset. Now matter how I mount the jail, I can't seem to get nextcloud to recognize the files already in my dataset. Can you help with this? Maybe release another video on this?
