    • @Ibunshi
      @Ibunshi Месяц назад

      @@randomthings1293It's still collaborative effort, the exact same thing that has always been around, is still around.. Literally nothing has been taken away.
      The fact that creators now have an OPTION to potentially do MORE modding because people have an OPTION to help FUND what they do - is absurd to attempt to frame "destroying modding"
      People who are so self-entitled that they can't see any kind of reason whatsoever to actually support mod creators, are not exactly the best kind of person to dump on this.
      You know how some modders sometimes just disappears from the scene and may not be back for years, because they have other things they HAVE to do instead of slaving for ungrateful, self-entitled gamers?
      Well, when enough people support their work, then maybe they do not HAVE to stop modding..
      And as always, the payed stuff is usually available for free in one form or another sooner or later anyway - and sometimes better, because people have had more time to work on it.
      I'm not egen sure how to put myself in the mindset of a person who wants things for free, speak as if they care about the community - but become all toxic when there's a completely voluntary option to actually support hard working members of that community, in ways that goes beyond empty words.

      @@randomthings1293I disagree. The reason mods are free are not because the mod devs hate money, it’s because of copyrights. If modding was something that devs could make money from, the mod quality would be incredible. Being able to fund dev teams for DLC level mods would create some amazing additions to eh games.

      You:
      (Mod quality is already incredible, a quick look at the nexus will tell you that immediately. And why is that? it's because everyone's work is built upon the collective work of thousands of other people. Restricting access to mods through paywalls will limit the number of people who use mods, thus limiting the number of people who create mods, thus limiting the amount of creativity and resources available for modding. Also, mod authors would inevitably sell faulty products, since they would never be able to guarantee that their mod does not break some other mods, since they can't use those other mods' resources, because they're behind a paywall and their authors are literally competitors. Side note, I've never said that mod devs "hate money", that's a ridicoulous thing to say and it's also totally irrelevant in respect to my argument).

    • @Powderlover1
      @Powderlover1 Месяц назад

      @@randomthings1293 literally every game I play is modded at this point.
      Mod devs are often putting out better content than the actual devs. That’s why I want them to be rewarded for their work. You not being able to afford the mods you enjoy, does not mean those developers (who put blood, sweat, tears, and more importantly time and money into their mods) should not be payed for their work. Your points are easily addressable:
      1. I don’t see it limiting it much, free mods will absolutely still exist, but a $.50 buy button next to a mod on workshop (or nexus for ya) is an option the people who made it should have.
      2. The idea that making money will somehow decrease the number of mod devs is patently ridiculous and does not deserve a serious response. Being able to hire devs would result in more large scale projects being successful, think dayZ, or fallout London finally actually releasing.
      3. The price of the game is a limiter as well, work costs money, stop expecting free labor.
      4. People sell faulty products all the time. Half of the AAA games released today are released as faulty products; should games all be free because some suck? I’d be all for a refund policy, but that’d be up to the platform and payment system.
      Also, weird that you went with Nexus rather than workshop. But I’ve actually been modding my games since before the easy tools and mod folders.
      Also, also you’re supposed to put the “You:” before the quote. Currently your comment is structured as if I’m saying the nonsense about not wanting to pay for things I enjoy.

What we're seeing is more and more of the RPG, tailored content being removed in favor of the sandbox getting tools and telling the community "just imagine what you guys and gals can build here!" While I do like being able to mod these games and add to them, when the base game is lacking, it still shows, no matter how many mods you add.

So much so that I thought my TV settings had gone crazy. But as I got ready to exit ship in surface 3rd person view, i swung my view to the left. And then I understood why everything was orange. A gas giant, taking up 80% of my TV screen, was rolling across the horizon. If you ever feel like the negatives of the game are overwhelming it, just look up. You’ll see SF greatest feature. The “step out” moments happen all the time in this game. I’ve had my eyebrows pushed up on my forehead dozens of times. But they come and go quick. Why? Because all that stuff in the solar system is rotating, orbiting, and playing with the light from their star. And that shit is bananas man. Oh yeah, paid mods are a poopie. I think it’s difficult to talk about them building a game like that for fear that people will have a knee-jerk reaction and think the game will be empty. And it was. Everything would have been mitigated had Bethesda been a more nimble company or utilized more studios. The game came out way too early at the same time that it had been delayed over a year. I don’t have a problem with independent devs getting paid. Maybe it will lead to fewer mods like StarUI where the dev makes a great mod and then goes awol because they can’t devote enough of their own time into it with no return.

    What are people complaining about? Just like Skyrim, there's paid mods from Bethesda and other top tier modders, or there are free mods. Literally no news. As far as the new faction having paid content, like any added content, you don't have to buy it. Which then pivots to the argument "it should just be included". Why? It wasn't free to create. A dev was paid to make the weapons, characters, code it, voice act, make it essentially something that can be easily added. All of which is time and money. That being said, even the critique of the game and systems are inaccurate. The ship scrapping is where you have to pay to get your ship licensed in order to use it. Then you can do what you want with it. The 1000 credit old world boat themed hab, is both the fully furnished hab, the empty hab, and all of the items therein which can be used on any ship or in any on world hab too. So you're paying 1000 for a curated hab, an empty hab, and a ton of items to use as you see fit.

    Just a PSA. The Unofficial Starfield Patch is NOT good. They make a lot of unnecessary changes (not fixes, changes) and push the mod to other modders in order to create artificial dependencies. This is why it's so popular, because inexperienced modders have made their mods reliant on the Unofficial Starfield Patch to function.

    The price points on these paid mods are clearly wrong. BGS has several of these overpriced. The Vulture should have been no more than half of its current cost. $3.00 for plushies for your ship and $10 for a single ship mod with a few ornamental additions are also overpriced. However, criticizing a business for selling, rather than giving away, seems to miss the point of actually operating a business. The reality is that, if BGS is smart, it will experiment with its price points until it finds the sweet spot - that spot where the price is not turning off people willing to pay for content.

    I think the faction that steal, and scrape the serial numbers of the ships is plausible! It’s like they have the knowledge to do the work themselves, whereas we don’t, and have to take ships to a port, and pay to have the serial numbers wiped. Bit like owning a car, and having to take it to a garage for work, those garage workers aren’t charging themselves that much for their own work.

    some of the creation club content for FO4 was actually very good and relatively good value for money
    I'm not against the 'concept' of curating modders into developers through this program, if that is what they are doing
    but this is icing on the cake stuff, starfield failed at the basic shit
    my favourite mod for Starfield is basic inventory management!
    ====
    If the Mod Sim Settlements 2 was on creation club for Starfield, I'd pay $30 easily, that mod is just SO good in FO4 and would work so well in SF
    I really really hope you check out SS2 for FO4 Luke, its a whole new game!

    Creation club is trying to borrow community goodwill by allowing modders to post and sell their mods, you would be really dumb to think BGS is not trying to take advantage of peoples work for their own profit.
    Also, BGS mods will always be on-top, meaning, instead of fixing their own game, they are selling you those fixes... Lack of content? Here`s a new questline for $7, tired of your ships? Here`s a new ship module set for $10, Oh companions are boring? Here`s a new Companion for $15...

    I don't really understand - what is the problem exactly ? I mean, you can like Starfield or not, but I don't see how that is a problem. You don't have to buy any of the paid mods. Even if you haven't had an incredible time with Starfield, you probably played like 40 hours of it, and had some fun. That's a much better deal that many games out there. If BGS offers you something more and you don't like the pricing, don't buy it. If you are being honest, you cannot possibly say that Starfield is not a good deal in terms of time played for the money. They made many design mistakes in Starfield in my opinion, and it's by far their worst game (apart from Fallout 76 of course). But If this kind of microtransaction offer will save single player games, I'm all for it as long as the base game is respectable in quality and length, which it very much is in my opinion (it's an ok game, maybe 6/10). As for the idea that this platform is for the modders, I think that's true - it's half the truth of course, no one will say "hey, I want to make more money out of our players so here is this platform". Come on. Does Blizzard say it while gouging their players ? Of course not. Now if most modders don't want to charge for the mods they put on creation, that's their business. And I respect both modders that ask for payment and those that don't. Now the day a game feels really incomplete (as opposed to not great but just ok), and a company charges for bits of story on a very short single player game for example, then I'll have a major problem with that approach. Doesn't all that make some sense ?
    A final thought : it's ok to not like an approach, but what alternatives do you see ? Massive single player games are a huge investment for many companies, and not all games will end up a massive critical and commercial success like BG3. Just selling these games for 80$ as s single purchase will probably not be viable for very long considering the long development times these days, and I think alternatives to that model, even if they are flawed, are better than a shrinking offer in big single player games, which I admit I love more than any other genre. Thanks for reading if you got to here ! Ciao
