I really like how this game emphasised something you don't actually see that often from interpretations of Byakuren.
She specializes in *buffing magic*. And her preferred fighting style is buffing herself up to superhuman levels and wailing on you. Not that she can't do other magic, but that's her bread and butter.

So basically, Byakuren will personally go out and beat the shit of her opponent with her bare hands.

@@1NegativeOne Yes. To put it into a JRPG sense, Byakuren is a monk-class [unarmed fighter] but has also learned all the supporting white magic and casts Haste; Brave; Shell; Protect; ect on herself before going ham.
A lot of Byakuren interpretations focus on the religious side of things. But Byakuren frankly is probobly one of the physically strongest characters when you account for her buffs. Maybe not like; Yuugi/Yuuka level; but certainly way above your average youkai.
And then she's got her offensive Holy *and* Unholy [I doubt Devil's Recitation is the only Makaian magic she's learnt] magic

      @@raikaria3090 Yes, exactly!
I remember seeing other LP about a Fire Emblem-Like Touhou (Genealogy of Gensokyo). It had Byakuren in it and, iirc, she was a Staff user.
Tbf, it was situated more than 1000 years ago, so maybe she wasn't a full Magician yet, but still it didn't quite clicked right on me.
On ttrpgs I always try to do a Byakuren-like build (I was trying to come up with that concept way before I discovered Touhou).
A Monk, unarmed if that's possible (looking at you, 5e) with some kind of Spellcasting, buff oriented, and/or damage, Radiant if it can.
Kudos to DnD 3.5 and Pathfinder 2nd Edition for being the best in handling that.
PS: If you wanna do it on 5e -> Scourge Aasimar Monk/Barbarian
Monk for obvious reasons (go for Strength, not Dexterity)
Barbarian/Aasimar to have a "super mode": Resistance to Physical Damage, More Physical Damage and Radiant Damage in an AoE and focused on one enemy.

Monk with free archetype Cleric is basically Byakuren Mode. There's even a super mode already baked into the Monk class.

That's basically what she was in Labyrinth of Touhou 2 too. In fact, she was so monstrous of a buff caster that when Plus Disc came around, they had to nerf her. In LoT2, buffs decayed with every turn, and the stronger the buffs were, the more they would decay (so at 100% buff, you'd lose 20% with your next turn, at 80% you'd lose 16% and so on). Byakuren had passives that gave her 14% buffs to every stat every time she acted, and with a certain subclass (Strategist) she was able to reduce buff decay too, essentially making her the only character in vanilla LoT2 who could forever stay at the buff cap of 100% in each stat without needing to do anything for it, also turning her into one of the best tanks in the process. Even more menacingly, she had a skill that allowed her to copy her buffs to an ally, therefore allowing her to get any character a 100% buff to all stats instantly once she got going.
(Once Plus Disc came around, they reduced the 14% to 12%, which was enough so that she couldn't stay at permanent 100% anymore. Plus, said buff copy got reduced to copying only half of each buff. Since Byakuren had one of the highest EXP tresholds for leveling up, and the level curve in Plus Disc went much, MUCH higher, she fell off hard there.)
But yeah. That's absolutely another interpretation of Byakuren as a buff unit. God, I love that game, haha.

It feels like Hijiri & Shinki are rivals.
Both are crazy strong, and are motherly figures to the Makai & Youkai, respectively.
