I love your videos concerning NHL/hockey history. I’m a relatively new hockey fan, although I did try to follow it as a kid in the 1950s. In the 60s when it first showed up on my TV, I was really put off by all the fighting and paid little attention to hockey until about 5 years ago. So, hearing about the good things that I missed is really good for me.

So any team losing a Cup Final really does seem to take time for them to recover from, at least enough for them to run it back
Teams who lost the Cup Final,
then won it the following season:
    • the 1983 / 84 Oilers
    • the 2008 / 09 Penguins
    • the 2023 / _(24)_ Panthers
Teams who lost consecutive Cup Finals:
    • the 1968 / 69 / 70 Blues

I was 10 years old the last Flyers Cup. We all thought they would be a dynasty but it wasn't meant to be. I remember the MAB Paints bumper stickers that said "Hat Trick in '76". They even went to the semi-finals in 1977 & 78 and back to the finals in 1980. Not So Fun Fact for we Flyers fans, we have the distinction of kicking off 2 consecutive dynasties. The 76-79 Canadiens and the 1980-83 Islanders. We were also victim #2 & #3 for the Oilers. Speaking of which, the 1987 finals were the most painful for me. Coming back from 3-1 to tie the series in one of the greatest games I've ever seen only to fall in game 7. 1997 sucked as well as we were so dominating in the playoffs and just didn't show up in the finals. Now I'm not so sure I'll see another Cup win again.

From the Oilers' POV, it's important to keep in mind that all the key pieces of the roster are already signed for next year, and none of the players whose contracts are up who they should be looking to keep are looking for big raises. On top of this, a lot of the good, young players have taken big strides this year (Bouchard, Skinner, Broberg, Holloway), and should by all rights be even better and more consistent next year. This was just Florida's year, but I don't see any reason why Oilers can't be the Panthers of 2025.

I think you should put an Asterisk by the Toronto Maple Leafs on your "No Finals Appearances" list. Where the rest of them that is 100% true.. if you went back just 1 season, they actually won the cup the season before expansion and 4 of the last 6 years prior.. so they should get the little star by their name. Yeah, none in the expansion era.. buy unlike the rest.. it's not totally true from their history.

They have appearances... just not in the timeframe you were documenting... all the rest.. They are the ONLY original 6 to have no appearances in since the '68 expansion. I do understand you're not going back that far.. But the NO appearance is only partially correct for them... thus the little footnote. (and for the record... I know that it burns in Toronto with fans that they've not been back since. Even more than the fact that the sabres have been there twice with nothing to show for it... )

(after game 4): I'm starting to think that Edmonton could still pull this off. They seem to have gotten Goalie Bob out of their heads, and have been playing much better since midway through game 3. As was noted during the Game 4 broadcast, the last time prior to this series that Edmonton lost three games in a row, those losses were immediately followed by 16 straight wins, four times what they would need now.
Yes, coming back from down 3-0 to win in the Finals hasn't been done since 1942, but winning a potential elimination Finals game by seven goals hadn't been done in over a century, and Edmonton has just done that already.
