  • Following the success of last year’s event, BC Schizophrenia Society hosted another evening where speakers shared their journeys with schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia. It’s a complex mental illness that is still shrouded in mystery. It is what people worry about and think about when they hear of someone in mental health distress, and the mental illness itself is seen as rare. But with 1 in 100 people living with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder, it is all around us. And together we can reveal the untold stories of schizophrenia.
Hosted by BC Schizophrenia Society, this virtual event hopes to unravel the stigma around schizophrenia, and bring forward the many untold stories from people impacted by this mental illness.
This year’s event focused on the journeys and stories of three individuals living with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder. Audience members heard from Josh, Abigail, and Oliver about their journeys and what they had to overcome to get to today, and what they are looking forward to as they continue to manage their symptoms.
    When: Wednesday, May 25, 2022
    Time: 7:00-8:30pm PDT
    Schedule:
    - Opening Remarks
    - A Word from Minister Sheila Malcolmson (Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions)

I can’t thank all of you enough for this soulful, luminous exploration……So many loving voices here……I’ve never felt more consoled and hope filled as the mother of a child with schizophrenia, who- sadly-is still treatment non compliant. Hope is my greatest tool….along with sacred listening and the prayer that love and time will soften and lessen the pervading fear that inhibits healing. Bless you all. Peace.

Thank you so really helpful. My grandson is like pieces of all that was said. He is 22 and has finally getting medicinal help. it's still a work in progress on Lithium so working on perhaps bi polar more Manic and schizaffective disorder. Where will this lead. He likes composing music. My goodness drugs, different voices, anger paranioa, destyroying mirrors, windows, closed in windows with curtains always drawn before. He doesn't trust the process.....

i have schizoaffective according to MUSC hospital. I still have delusions sometimes but I can usually catch it before it gets too far out of hand. sometimes I still wonder if people can communicate through something similar to spooky actions at a distance that is confirmed by quantum mechanics

As a non-schizophrenic, how far, if at all, do you entertain a friend's or acquaintance's delusions?

Given a world of social media conspiracy nut rabbit holes, how well does someone with this condition fair in this environment?
