The difference between you and other young people is that you actually feel the magic of this music just as we did back in the day! It's awesome to see!
God, that's so true. I used to dance to her music as a teenager. So great to see this young man's passionate response.
Ain’t Nobody was Chaka’s final song with her former band Rufus which is why the instrumentation is so full. That’s a whole band including the composer of the song.
Every other time shes done it live she has a full band. Rufus should not be associated with this song at all
@@Phillyhockey1 It was written by Rufus keyboardist David "Hawk" Wolinski for the group last LP

This was produced by Russ Titelman.
This is not only her best but it’s one of thee best songs ever! Thanks Jack
I agree
Dude’s facial expressions while listening to Chaka is everything! There’s only one Chaka Khan....true living legend.
I also love the fact that she's not oversinging, she's doing her thing without showing off
Even if she was flexing, when you sound like this, ya gotta do what you do 👏🏻
The Legendary CHAKA 🔥💙💯
It was on the soundtrack for the 80’s film “Breakin “ really good flick btw
Would love to see Ain’t No Stoppin Us on the channel!
I was going to say that
Also Bringing Down the House with Steve Martin 😊
@@ziphesithole4597 But it wasn’t sung by Chaka. It was sung by Kelly Price.
I love that movie
Queen of Funk Chaka 👑
This song gives me instant HAPPY
This is a huge party hit. Always good to have female singers express love…
It’s so nice to see a young person vibe to the music from my generation. And he’s assessing it correctly and in real time. This was the best of the 80s, and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. So much great music came from that era.
Absolutely right. I feel blessed to have lived my youth in the 80s!
The late great Miles Davis said Chaka khan voice sounds like Horn. He said he could play one of her songs and no one would miss her. Lol the ultimate compliment.
Speaking of Miles Davis. His wifey for a brief time, The Infamous Betty Davis (The first Madonna) is a hidden gem! She goes hard and Wass very influential and far ahead of her time. Back in 1973, Check out her: "Anti Love Song" or, if you dare: "Game is My Middle Name"
The older Miles Davis thought that he was turning her out. But he was the one who was never the same again.
Everytime I hear this, it just makes me think of the rehearsal scene in the movie "Breakin" 😂 (I'm telling my age 😁😂)
My mom loves to watch that part from the movie too! Now u know how old my mom is!
It was in the first Breakin movie, not 2
@@Sela100 that's right, I couldn't remember if it was the 1st or sequel
Yes, I just posted the same thing!
I watched that movie as a kid. Loved it!
One of the reasons why this song is just so damn satisfying is because of how tight and efficient the arrangement is. People don't tend to notice this consciously, but if you listen carefully you start to notice how all the different parts on different instruments all lock in with each other in super clever ways. A couple examples:
- The main synth keyboard playing the chords in the verse is actually already playing the rhythm of the main vocals in the chorus. It's a kind of musical foreshadowing, so when the chorus hits, you kinda already feel like you knew what it was gonna be before you even heard it.
- The guitar and keyboard riffs at the end of each line in the chorus (after each line of the chorus vocals) are exactly synced up playing the same syncopated rhythm as the hi hats in the drums. This creates a tight accent in the groove at the end of every bar in the chorus that's really satisfying. You feel it even if you don't consciously notice why it's happening.
There are a ton more little details like this in the arrangement, all added up together they make the song feel tight AF while also making all the layers feel like they're all totally on the same vibe with not a single thing out of place. The genius about it is how effortlessly it's done and how you just _feel_ how it all works even if you can't put your finger on why. Prince was also a master of this kind of writing and arrangement.
Yeeeaaah, Jack. Stank face on fleek! When I say this woman knows every nook and cranny of a music note and can make it sound like you sitting in a subwoofer when she give it to ya......😯 whew!
I nearly popped my side when you said this could be on a movie soundtrack. 🤣 It is. Breakin'. It's specifically in a dance routine montage. You know the 80's & 90's love a good montage moment.
SHE IS THE "QUEEN OF FUNK"
If you haven't already you should check out Chaka "Tell Me Something Good" written by Stevie Wonder, "I Feel For U" written by Prince and the Chaka all time classic "Sweet Thing"
From the group Rufus....which Chaka is a part of
I was just thinking about that song
I have heard that song my whole life, but ever since Will & Grace used that song with Karen saying it was her and Stanley's " in the mood" song, and then she caught him playing it while having an affair at his office.....it's all I can think about now. I want to crack up everytime I hear it now, because I can only picture that scene. 🤣
How about One night in Tunisia or is that too much for him to handle?
You are listening to "THE QUEEN OF FUNK" in any genre Chaka Khan is QUEEN!
This is my song 🥰

The LEGENDARY Iconic CHAKAAAAAAA ❤❤❤❤
This is hip-hop. And it was used in a movie, "Breakin'" (1984). The song was released by Rufus & Chaka Khan. Rufus is the band Chaka started her recording career with in the early 1970's before venturing into solo work in the late '70s. The song was written by one of Rufus' two keyboard/synthesizer wizards, David "Hawk" Wolinski, who also produced the track, unofficially. Rufus' bass player was Bobby Watson, their guitarist was Tony Maiden. John "JR" Robinson was their drummer at the time. Rufus' other keyboardist is Kevin Murphy who was a founding member and the only mainstay through all of the band's many personnel changes. Chaka got flow for days. She is, at her core, a jazz improvisationalist and typically let's loose during the climax/fade-out of her songs. This is why people in the know don't fux with the single/7-inch edits of her songs. Because in the record company's quest to shorten the song for radio/video, they typically edit or completely chop off Chaka's best parts; the ending, where she let's loose and hits notes not on the charts. In keeping with poor record company decisions, Rufus' then label, Warner Bros., wanted to use a different song as the lead single for this, their final, album. Hawk was not having it and threatened to remove "Ain't Nobody" from the album and give it to Quincy Jones and MJ who were at the time recording the album that became 'Thriller'. Warner Bros. came to their senses and the rest is history. FYI, the players from Rufus are part of the rhythm section on MJ's 'Off The Wall' album. Hawk is also playing (uncredited) on 'Thriller'. Quincy was producing MJ and Rufus during the same time, late '78 through 1979.
She was with "RUFUS" when she recorded this song. It was the hottest song in the 80's...This was also a break-dancer's dream song...
This song was a floor filler back in the days. People went crazy in the clubs when they heard the first bars of the intro. And I was one of them ;-). Produced by the legendary Arif Mardin. Pure gold.
Next by Chaka Khan you should do: “Sweet Thing”, “Stay”, “Hollywood”, and “Everlasting Love”.
Hollywood and Sweet Thing are my favorites! Yes! 🔥
Love Hollywood
Stay is my favorite
I agree. All with Rufus.
Sweet thing is my favorite. I love that song so much.
"Through the fire" is probably considered her second best song.
the harmonies on the chorus r Chaka's own vocals stacked together..Chaka arranges n produces her own vocals(main n background) on many of her stuffs..n she has her own unique style of phrasing n her sense of timing is something else too..her singing is like a drummer who plays in the pocket...nobody else like Chaka really..that is why she's the undisputed queen of funk.
This was the jam back in the day. I think you'll like "I Feel For You" and "Tell Me Somethin Good" too ❤️
What about Randy Crawford "Street Life" that was playing back then too. I Love that song- 😍
This is one of her best jams of all time. No doubt. Probably my personal favorite 😍 R & B perfection, right here.
Ayeeeee! The JAM! 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
Chaka and Stevie have worked together! They did a song called "Tell Me Something Good". I believe he wrote / produced it, and she sang it
We definitely need some Stevie on this channel!
“Tell Me Something Good” is written by Stevie Wonder
Tell me something good. Was my jam in 8th grade
It was co-written by Chaka and Stevie, it was her first hit and she didn't get song writing credit. She said she would never let that happen again.
This song and Chaka's voice is so epic Jack!
Don't forget the wonderful song "I feel for you" which was written by Prince in 1979 and she blew it away.
I’ve literally been waiting for this reaction!!!! Ima go die and be resurrected and then view. Toodles ✌️
Ofc!!!
Put some respeck on her name. I remember that there were certain singers, who shall remain nameless, that were jealous of how Chaka could control her instrument. She could belt out her notes without hollering, all without being able to read a note of music. It's just raw talent.
Whose that singer?
"Cough" Pattie "cough".
Much respeck.🙂
Takes me back. Remember listening and breakdancing to this song back in 1984. One of thee best songs of the 80's and one of the best songs period. Chaka is amazing 👍❤Grt reaction as always
Man... it's one of my favorites. When I DJ and play this, everyone is dancing.
You gotta do ‘Sweet Thing!!’ One of her best songs ever.
I agree, I told him the same thing,
💯🔥 I love that you are showing Chaka so much love! FYI she performs all the background vocals on the majority of her songs as well!
my favorite Chaka Khan song right here she’s one of the greats there will never EVER be another Chaka
"I wait for night time to fall, to bring you to me " is a magical verse.
Her last hit with Rufus! You should also check out, Everlasting Love(w/Rufus), Do You Love What You Feel(w/Rufus), Clouds(Cissy & Whitney Houston on background vocals), Move Me No Mountain(cover), Night in Tunisia, We Can Work it Out(Beatles Cover), Any Old Sunday, I Know You(I Live You), Pass it On and many more. And also “You Can Make the Story Right.”
yeah... you just got me with "you can make the story right" and all the suggestions from "Naughty"! "Move Me No Mountains"! the way it crescendos... main... i got a big ol smile on my face. I'm finna go play it. Thanks for the reminder!
Chaka Khan & Rufus - Sweet Thing, Tell Me Something Good are both great songs
If you liked this I think you will like “New Attitude” by Patti Labelle. It’s more energetic and a faster tempo but it has that same 80s funk/soul/pop feel. And the vocals are A1
Yesss miss patti always does the thing
Jack..I’m a new subscriber (last few weeks) but I really like your reaction videos. Chaka is my all time favorite vocalist. I’d even go as far as saying in her prime, she had the best voice in the industry. Haunting and soulful lows and electrifying highs. But since you giving Chaka some love let me give you at least 3 more GREAT vocal songs by her (though there are MANY)
1. Stay - Rufus & Chaka (erykah Badu did a really good remake of this song as well)
2. Got to be there- Chaka (remake of Michaels Jackson’s hit)
3. I was made to love him- Chaka
Honorable Mention: Love Has Fallen Down on Me
Keep it up bro!
I feel like all 60's, 70's, 80's, music is the greatest. They're real artists. Love Chaka Khan. They actually put work into their music. Instrumental and voice.
The writer of this classic is David "Hawk" Wolinski hes also on keyboards one of the six members of Rufus & Chaka Khan. He also wrote "Do you love what feel". He writes alot if not most of the group's songs. He is one bad White boy!
one of my all-time-favourites. since 1983, i love love love this song.
For those of us who grew up on music like this, you can imagine how deprived and oppressed we feel in life right now with the current music.
Facts! Thank God for youtube.
Classic 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Spot on, a mix or RnB and very soulful and funky and still a HYBRID.
This sound went from Breakdancing battles on street corners then on to Nightclubs all around the World.
This is truly a Masterpiece of a song!!!!
Nobody hollers like Chaka! Well, maybe Patti Labelle, lol
DAMN RIGHT😍😍😍😍
Check out "tell me something good". It's from when she was with the band Rufus when she was younger (late teens/early 20s)
Other Chaka-- "I Feel for You", "Whatcha Gonna do for Me", "Papillon"
Hi react to Patti LaBelle “ On My Own ft Michael McDonald “ and “Somebody Loves You Baby (You Know Who It Is)”.She’s from the same era as Chaka and has a big voice as well.
Thanks
If you do Patti you gotta do " if Only You Knew". That's the jam and the range.
Also on this album Jack is a song called “Everywhere”. This a remake of a Fleetwood Mac song and the arrangement is ridiculous.
Loved your reaction. She has other great tracks like Papillon (Hot Butterfly) and I Feel For You (written by Prince). Also, check out The Pointer Sisters with their amazing track Automatic.
CLASSIC!!!
Fun Fact: Chaka Khan is drummer! So that plays a part in her phrasing/timing.
Definitely my favorite Chaka Khan song
Jazz, Funk, Soul, and R&B…even disco intertwine with each other.
CHAKA is classic!
Please react to Rick James & Teena Marie. You will not be disappointed.
Fire & Desire song title.
Yessssssss
Good Choice
Listen to Chaka's Sweet Thing, and she did a CD of Gershwin's Tunes(Awesome, She Is A True Queen)
Please please please react to Chaka performing Ain't Nobody live on Oprah! Chaka is so much better live!!
Omg yes!! That oprah performance is FIRE
Get into her work with Rufus- Hollywood, Sweet Thing, Stay
Yes! Her w/ Rufus was magical! 🔥
Agree!!!
Yes!!! The best!
Stay! OMG Erykah Badu covered it at the BET Awards in front of Chaka. I turned to my mom like "I've never heard this song by Erykah". My Mom, one of the biggest Chaka fans ever said "That's because it's Chaka's song" Erykah did the song justice, but it doesn't beat the original. Mom was right! Lol
@camillej agreed! I actually love both versions but chakas version reigns supreme!
Check out the legendary Teena Marie - “Lovergirl” , ‘Ooo La La La’, or ‘I Need Your Lovin’ 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yesssss! Also "Fire and Desire"
Behind the Groove
Square Biz 😊
Teena Marie lovergirl!!!!!!
Thank you, Jack. Finally "Ain't Nobody"! This song was featured on an 80s classic dance flick (you were right) called "Breakin" (was kind of corny but love). One of my fav Chaka songs besides this is "Stay", which Erykah Badu also covered on her live album.
breakin soundtrack 1984
One of my favorite Chaka songs💜
Awesome Chaka knows how it’s done 👍
I know many kids my age, including me, who have played the beginning part of this song on the piano! We just love this song as well!
It just dawned on me that you're experiencing, perhaps for the first time, live and competent music, without automated tracks or autotune. This was when you couldn't hide behind click tracks and digital hocus pocus.
She was the woman everyone one wanted to be, her beauty her mouth I have a small mouth I wished I had her face she just everything she sings so damn good
I swear you have the best reactions and no lie, the production of this song, the instruments ....oh boy, perfection
Her biggest tune - this was HUGE !! it's about time you started diving into the 80's
Your facial expression is the epitome of what soul, R & B, jazz, funk and gospel music are. It's just STANK, Funkalicious 🎤
OH NO YOU DIDN'T !!! You went there !
Her Band was "RUFUS" ... Chaka had a string of big HITS !!!!
I really like your critical breakdown of the music as well as your appreciation of various musical styles.
Get it, Jack! LOVE This Reaction~Chaka Khan is a Whole VIBE, 🧡her!🥰
This is my girl from back in the day. Thank you for reacting to her. Do more of her songs, you will be jamming all night long💯💯
Agree with the instrumentals, brings a unique sound , funky mix with an unknown sound ..
one of the best
Just saw your reaction, man... I listen this song for decades - and it's never old, always moves me... Greetings from Serbia!
What up Jack!!! Love your reaction to my favorite female vocalist, the incomparable Ms Chaka Khan on this timeless classic, which btw, won Rufus & Chaka a Grammy back in 1983 for the best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocals. Your reaction reminds me of the time when I first discovered the band Rufus, which Chaka was the featured vocalist starting waaayyyy back in the early 70s. Since you were so impressed with her adlibs & runs on this particular Rufus & Chaka classic, I'd recommend "Sweet Thing", "I Know You, I Live You", "Got To Be There", "Love You All My Lifetime", and "Angel". I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
My favorite Chaka Kahn song ever.
Love your reaction to one of my favorite songs that I’m playing over and over again❤️❤️❤️❤️
Chaka just makes you want to sing! Speaking of Stevie can we get some Stevie on the channel? I'm guessing you are familiar with him but any songs you don't know would be good.
There is music and then there are anthems. This is an anthem. This comes on an everyone would lose their s@#$ on the dance floor. Good music is timeless. Respect Jack much kudos to you!
You describe it so well, its a great love song, the orchestra that floats all the way through it, the intermittent guitar licks, the funky bass pumping up & down, then the pure soul from Chaka, its pure magic.
Rufus sent her off RIGHT!
Made SURE that she didn't forget what she had with that band!
#salute
Also by Chaka Roll Me Through The Rushes and My Funny Valentine. Amazing.
"I Feel for You" is for me her greatest song. It's so perfectly 80's. I absolutely love the production on it and her vocals of coarse. You should definitely check it out.
The Breakin’ movies were some of my favorite movies in the 90’s as a kid and I loved this song for so long because it put me back into that movie and the scenes played in my head as I listened but as I’ve gotten older and this song has remained on my playlist I’ve grown to appreciate it as it’s own masterpiece and not just for nostalgic sake. Chaka is 👑
I saw Ms. Yvette (Chaka) in Concert in the 1970's. To be so tiny she blew the roof off the Auditorium! From the floor to the rafters we jammed that night! One of the BEST Concerts i ever attended.
Hey Jack, love your reaction to “Ain’t Nobody.” Your response was just like ours, on the floor, in the club at 3am, when the DJ magically drops this new Chaka jam into the mix. Needless to say, the party was redefined. Treat yourself to something really beautiful and listen to “Smoking Room,” from “Rags to Rufus.” You’re welcome!😎✌🏿
Chaka to Jack : "Tell me something good", and Jack delivers... that's because Jack mention about Stevie.
Many artists have attempted to remake this song, but they have failed to capture the magic of this timeless hit. There's something understated that Chaka brings to her records that just can't be duplicated. Mary and Whitney have successfully remade Chaka songs but with the absence of that Chaka magic. For years I have tried to figure out what it is that makes her music special and the best I can come up with is: subtle magic.
In the 90's there was a reggae/rnb artist by the name of Diana King. She was featured on Biggie's song, "Respect," and had a huge hit with the song "Shy guy." She has a massive voice and had did an interesting take on "Ain't nobody." It's worth checking out.
There's an undeniable gem of a song that I doubt anyone here will request and I want to turn you on to. It's called "Give me the night" by Randy Crawford. It's remake of a George Benson song. There are two versions by Randy. The single version is awesome, Randy's voice is spectacular. But for those days and nights when you are stressed and in doubt, the chill night mix version is like floating on heaven. You will feel transformed as you surrender to your own peace of mind.
This is the single version (it's apparently the less popular version RUclips)

Loved it! You broke it down. Chaka is a beast! I Know You, I Live You, I Feel For You, My Funny Valentine A Night In Tunisia and This Is My Night are great places to visit great Chaka vocals! Enjoy!!!
Great reaction. Amazing song. I appreciate the way you recognize it's a classic all the way round:: structure, instrumentation, vocals. One for the ages.
Your reactions be killing me lol but I love it. Listen to STAY, What Cha Gonna Do For Me and Everlasting Love by her with Rufus
Glad you are getting more and more into Chaka's music Jack! One of the reasons she's my favorite artist is her diversity (she can basically sing any genre - soul/r&b, pop, rock, jazz, and gospel)! Check out what she adds to the De La Soul, classic hip-hop cut, "All Good." It would've been great just with DLS spitting their flow... but Chaka adds some "spice" to it!
