I think if I had the enormous capacity for learning that he does, I would want another 120 years. And also, if we lived in an infinite world. But we don’t. The planet is finite and growing smaller every century, every minute, really. I have had a nice long turn and I know I have to make room for the next generations. Although I’ll miss them, and this world which has made me so happy with its “number of things,” they won’t miss me. Richard is another story. Not only does he move through a much bigger, more complex, more beautiful and sensible world than I do, it will miss him greatly, and for ages, when he departs. Cheers, Richard. Thank you for expanding my small life. How I wish I could have met you, even for one minute!

On The Creator So, I’ve had my breakfast, the last meal before the next one, and suddenly I’m curious. Haven’t all the myriad of creators that humans worship or don’t, or ponder, or blasphemously curse when things don’t go their way, not actually themselves always been created by human beings? Is that the answer to who created the creator? Is it that simple or am I just simple (I wish!)? And, am I just talking to myself?
Trouble with Richards presentation style, is that it doesn't resonate with the people who need to understand it. The language is to complex. Why can't the creator of the universe fix a broken TV set, if it can make a giraffe. Why doesn't, it stop people who call themselves "holy men" harming children? That should have happened zero times.

@@Garett.1214 If inheriting a ridiculous amount of wealth from his father, makes him intelligent. Well I suppose he is. Let’s not forget he employees intelligent people to do the work.
His wholesale embrace of conspiracy theories and prejudiced, militant far-right beliefs, not to mention constant lying and mis-/disinformation, do not support theories about Musk being intelligent.
If the people like Dawkins are there in the lead to guide the masses it means the evolution is advancing. Otherwise our present day society, it seems, is regressing.
When BILLIONS of people still believe in a fairytale god, agreed, it's regressing. v
The prominent militant atheists all side with Israel, even during a genocide. You're being led off a cliff into moral degeneracy.
If you're looking for Dawkins to guide the masses, you're up a gum tree. His worldview is horrendous.
He is blatantly unscientific on many of his emotionally charged political opinions. He is only human I guess. Otherwise I like listening to what he thinks on his field of science. Not all matters.
Yes, steady devolution in a remarkably short time, in the USA especially. That's media-enhanced social Darwinism for you. You start with religious hypocrisy and end up worshiping a felon in a cult.
The first time I heard of Richard Dawkins I was young, and so was he. Such a short time ago! At this point, though I’m not dying to (!), I’m ready to die.
Speaking from another point of view "praise be the world, society is not made up of such " Who would do the real work ? Certainly not one of the above
Everyone commenting being mad about his opinion on Musk just happened to miss that this was filmed in November. I would be interested to hear if his opinion has changed due to recent events
but the channel only sharing this now got to give you pause.
@@TheMultipaw-my I know Goldy would love it.
Musk was a deplorable person long long before last November. He's been a fraud to anyone willing to have an objective look for years.
Except even in Nov '24, musk was as racist, gross, and stupid, as we now know.
Dr Dawkins knows so much. My knowledge tells me his knowledge is high quality and factual. Take that as you will.
His ability to recollect facts is absolutely phenomenal.
He remembers the names of everyone and everything. He remembered that Arthur Conan Doyle was a doctor. He seems to be able to quote the scientific names of every species. He can quote poetry and literature verbatim, even if he read it over 50 years ago.
He is one in a million.
Thanks
You are either extremely rich, or extremely stupid. I am almost certain it's the first though 😂 👍
Would love to hear a conversation between Dawkins and Deutsch. That’d be such a treat!
Apologies for auto correct bolluxing up what I said. Simply put, I loved this discussion. Thank you!
Hitch was a big stick. Dawkins speaks softly and has staying power. He has lent himself to us for longer.
Hitchens publicly supported the invasion and destruction of Iraq. 1 million died. Dawkins supports Israel even now.
Dawkins is a bigot, Hitchens wasn't. Hitchens is still with us in spirit, Dawkins never was.
@@nonfungiblemushroom Oh dear. Dawkins doesn't want to join your cult, therefore he's a "bigot". By the same "reasoning", I am a "bigot" too. And I suspect Hitch would've also been. Just apropos nothing at all, do you think that it was right that Gordon Brown had to leave Downing Street for calling someone a "bigot"?
Andrew - "I know it's hard to ask a feelings question to a scientist".
What an incredably stupid assertion.
Altruism and empathy are just as much a part of our evolution as egotism and selfishness, and as the Hitch pointed out, we wouldn't have survived as a species without these. They discovered skeletons of humanoids that had signs of having been taken care of because they had healed from terrible wounds and continued to live for some years. That would have taken altruism and empathy from fellow creatures.
Hitchens publicly and loudly supported the invasion and destruction of Iraq. 1 million died. So much for empathy and altruism. Militant atheism has led it's followers over a cliff into moral degeneracy.
Its baffilng how Dawkins cant see what a clown and snake oil salesman elon musk is...
You almost suspect it might be down to a large amount of money changing hands..
@@InParticularNobody indeed, he dedicated "flights of fancy" to musk (embarrassing and cringe). Money can buy integrity it seems.
When did he endorse him?
I'm first.😊 Always happy to see Richard Dawkins
Congrats 🎉🎉🎉. v
I love Andrew Gold! So excited that he had the honor of doing this.
The Tie 👔 🤩
I dont think karma exists but having a conscience does as it gives feedback on behaviors that are altruistic or selfish via feelings dignity empathy or guilt and shame
I went to a catholic school and yes, I have lots of guilt and shame. Apparently I was born with it. Quite a shitty thing to do to a child.
@ZER0-- institutional abuse of children in all its forms especially when perpetrated on the powerless & voiceless is abhorent. I Hope you find peace & the guilty are brought to justice
it's official. richard dawkins is either too old or too rich to be trusted anymore
I also read Jan Morris' book Conundrum. Wonderful book, helped me understand how it worked. I just loved her integrity and i wish everyone would read her book. The zealots are irredeemable, sadly. Thank you Andrew and Richard.
A fabulously informative watch. Thank you.
Andrew Gold embarrassed himself too many times, otherwise it was a fascinating discourse.
Edolf Musk? oh god we are doomed!
Peterson has convinced himself he's smart. Why is it that some individuals feel they need to be controversial to feel important, odd
If you can't make head or tails of someone's arguments it's possibly because they don't make any sense.
Why the music, couldn't listen to it.
Richard Dawkins tie is so apt probably carefully chosen for the occasion.
Good old dioxyribonucleic acid.
Dawkins on fine form!
Found Mr. Gold and his failed attempts at humour annoying.
Me, a Canadian, me I have questions. Can anyone here explain why all the adulation for Adolf Musk?
At Rump's Presidential acceptance speech Adolf Musk came out and gave America the Nazi salute . . .yes the Nazi salute.
. . . Anyone? NAZI stuff?
Dawkins would probably argue that the Nazis were simply following the evolutionary principle of survival of the fittest.
I don't think the ad hominem will yield much intellectual respect to your comment
@@schopenhauer5427 Hi there not looking for respect. Just pointing out American leadership has gone full Nazi,, in fact your reply as welcome as it is shows you do not know what a hominem is.
Me calling Adolf Musk a Nazi is just simple plain scientific observation. . . . . . just like if you are defending the Nazi, it begs the question ,are you one of them too?
Hmmmmmmmmm? you don't feel even a little genocide in your future? not even a wee bit? By defending the Nazi ways you become one . . . Thus my conclusion you must love them and their murder habits . . . At least get a dictionary so you can learn what a hominem is.....
@ Post comment thought . . . . . All of the Space X true fan channels are staying far far away from pointing out Adolf Musk has gone full Nazi . . . . Why are all my Space nerds all so chicken to point out the new Fürer wanna be Adolf Musk's salute to his Nazi army in waiting? Why?
Adolf will destroy us all, so think about history and all the suffering to come with the new Nazi party of America. . . . . .
. . . .not looking for respect. Just pointing out American leadership has gone full Nazi,, in fact me calling Adolf Musk a Nazi is just simple plain scientific observation. . . . . . If one is defending the Nazi, it begs the question ,are you one of them too?
Oh, it is just EM showing his untrammelled ecstasy on riding on the shoulder of DT to rapidly arrive at a trillion dollar valuation and the salute signified power and greatness and domination, the chosen one. I would not ever be stupid enough to accuse EM of being an intellectual, just a clever businessman, any more than I would be nuts to accuse Trump of being an intellectual. It made me smile when DT schooled the media in his office on day 1 that Spain was a member of BRICs, clearly the US and the world are in safe hands.
35:35 A certain proportion born gay is possibly a positive adaptation since gays often contribute to society in ways that straights do less, e.g. in art, war and religion. In other words, populations with a certain small proportion of gays may be more successful than those with none.
I admire the language used by Richard Dawkins for its clarity.
Richard Dawkins does not understand Elon musk.
Excellent interview, great job Andrew.
On The Creator
So, I’ve had my breakfast, the last meal before the next one, and suddenly I’m curious.
Any concept of what a creator may be must come from the human mind. That a creator may exist comes from science.
Very interesting. Thank you.
Some of the most depressed people turn to religion. A guy on one social media platform who lost 18 years in jail feels like he's lost so much of his life that there's good stuff waiting in the next, apparently.
Much like ex addicts
I too am grateful for this broadcast and Dr. Dawkins. Oddly enough before Christopher Hitchens was mentioned in this discussion in thought, this Dawkins is a current version of Hitchens kind of thinking. Not surprised then that the good Dr. found him to be brilliant. In any case that you for being a lovely, kind and intelligent voice in this world!
Who in No God's name mixed the audio? And did that with the intro music?
What is most admirable about Richard Dawkins is the incisive manner scalpel like analysis , before he opens his mouth . I aspire to this reasoned approach of the mystery of life .
I'm tired of the word "intelligent" like as though its 1 thing. It's so obvious that there are types of intelligence. They gave the Jordan Peterson, Arthur Conan Doyle examples but Musk is also a prime example of how you can be highly intelligent in 1 way and very dumb in another way. People always say they agree that there types of intelligence but then 5 minutes later be calling people dumb or smart.
P.S.: "So f****** WHAT!" Dawkins. Brilliant.
1:06:35 Refreshing truth in the way it was said. We need people that just say the fucking truth man.
DAWKINS
“Theory of life”…
Jeremy England’s “Life as a consequence of the second law of thermodynamics (life increases net entropy)”.
Darwin was very cautious about spreading his ideas, largely because he thought the backlash form the Church would be severe. Darwin loved the variety of life he saw caused by natural selection. It was Wallace who was terrified of the variety of life.
Richard's earnestness charms the hell out of me. Thanks. 😎
30:43 look, Arthur Conan Doyle believed in EVERYTHING, if there was a seance that man was there, this is not a mystery
A bit of a gaff about Musk!
{:o:O:}
Thank you, sir, for the nice sensible speech . Always respect you for your truthful speech.
I agree about Trump except for his abilities as a predatory "negotiator;" he is shrewd at the worst, so in some way, he is intelligent. He was definitely the best worst choice after RFKJ dropped out.
I was SO HAPPY to be able to see Dr. Dawkins being interviewed by Dr. Collin Wright in Portland. Never disappoints ❤ I doff my top hat to him.
The echo can even be heard on this recording. It must have been really annoying live...
Karma dont exist, for it to would mean somebody/something keeping score. At the end of the day, for when people have been considered/doing good their whole life, they still get a share of bad.
59:05 because it's deadly cult
A question: Are all the human knobs tuned to the right value?
We are still animals, because there are so many of us now. There are so many more survivals of mutation instead of death. A good mother uses this to help their children grow as people
Telling you that Peterson is too smart was the most dumb headed thing
A pity about the distracting soundtrack laid over the whole thing
Nice Na$i salute from Elon today. Three in fact.
Dawkins + Musk 3 lunches and a plane flight. Wonder what that was like and if Richard's ideas on him have changed since
I suspect one's opinion on Musk's intelligence depends heavily on the topics of discussion.
The life giving universe arranging itself in the form of worlds orbiting their suns with their moons and here we are lots of universal love to everyone 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 Colin
Dr. Dawkins is a very clever man, but very arrogant and closed minded.
He thinks he's superior to the ordinary man in the street. He lauds the 'intellectual elite' often enough.
If the above memtiomed president is x,y,z then what president is not x,y,z? And if you have found such a president, how many alike were/are there? And if there are different presidents, is their footprint any better or worse for the humanity?
Very critical perspective 😊
With great delight!
Good show,
Elon Dittman has created nothing and Dawkins swallowed the bluff?
Richard is a scientist no doubt
This interviewer is seriously out of his depth here....
Musk is a Lunatic Dawkins
Beats me how such an educated man gets caught up in a series of "ums" . . .
I wonder what Richard thinks of the salute.
He would have no problem with the salute. He praised the warmonger John McCain as a "good man", condemned Julian Assange and supports Israel even now.
Most people in the world don't even know why Richard Dawkins is or that he's even alive! And they could care less about his thinking and would reject him if they did!
Click bait title
Best take away from this was: discovered the relevance of zodiac signs 😂
There is error in thumbs calculator, and it does not to seems to show accurate numbers
Gosh just after I posted a comment I returned to the discussion only to hear that Piers Morgan was called a fool by these two. I don’t watch him ever but someone I know sends me his tripe, so I have heard him for a few minutes and he is irredeemably stupid and a danger to the human race. Millions love him, I suppose. Any link between the mess the world is in and millions swooning over Morgan?
Heil H musk , my God
Karma (a Hindu word) is another way of saying that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Although this concept is well-known to science, the Hindus of India Named it Thousands of years ago.
#SorryNotSorry. He's absolutely wrong that Mr. Morris went from being a man to being a woman because he tried really earnestly for a long time. He lived as a man, then as a man lying that he was some sort of woman, ultimately dying - AS A MAN. This is where he loses me, every f*cking time.
26:15 Richard Dawkins burnt an entire country in one joke lmao
Gotta love him
Oh Richard... your sanity for humanity!
The only let down was the interviewer
Surely there are smarter people out there who can explore this great man’s mind😢
He is ok, he’s still learning 😊
I'd love to have had him instead of the one in Antwerp. He really wasn't good.
Dawkins had a curious reply to his opinion on Douglas Murray. He started by saying he didn't believe much of what Murray believes, but a moment later he says he agrees with a lot of what Murray says. That's a bit of a contradiction isn't it?
Also had sympathy of a man who thought he was in the ‘wrong body’ and kept calling him a her, then talked of feeling sympathy for her and seemed to equate this person with a person suffering mental illness of anorexia thinking they were fat.
I don’t think so. For instance: I can agree that you believe in a god. It does not necessarily follow that I believe in a god.
@ jemmajames@ perhaps you might listen to that segment again. Carefully, without any prior expectation or judgement. I may be wrong, but I drew a quite different picture from what he said. If, however, your intention is only to disagree, then I apologize for having wasted both our time.
I like that trans people stand up for themselves. If gay men hadn’t done this in the 1960s, there’d have been no scientific inquiry at all leading to knowledge. Even Dr Dawkins, brilliant and scientific as he is, can’t be immune to all effects of environment on him and his thinking along these lines.
It's a shame that Dawkin's participation on the subject is on the lowest and most politicized way even when he isn't aware of it. Truly the most pointless and dumbest part of his career and unfortunately so late in it that it will be remembered disproportionately.
He seemed to dodge the question when asked about race and IQ. There are considerable differences in average IQ depending on race. This has been shown beyond doubt.
Did they compare people brought up in the exact same circumstances?
