They are nice looking cars. A friend of mine ordered a 65 one with a 327 and 4 speed from the factory back in the day. It was a fine running and good looking car. Had trim packag that encircled the sides of the car. 👍
My father's friend had a '64 with a built 454 full cage and narrowed rear in the late seventies, he ruled the streets. Painted off white, with full exhaust, I was in my mid teens, it was my first ride in a real mid 10 sec car! One of those memories I will keep forever...
Hey Dan, If you end up putting in a different transmission, don't use the cooler in the radiator. Use an external trans cooler. The cooler in the radiator may be leaking, causing water to get into the transmission. Take the lines off the radiator and plug them. I've seen this happen a lot when I was working in a transmission shop. Not telling you what to do, just a little advice.
Great to see Mur back, mic'd up and recharged! You guys have always made a great team on these cars and it's always good to see you guys tackle a project together! The Chevy II is a great find! I would fix the Turbo 350, hook a nicely cammed 327 in there and let Dani go have fun with it at the track! You now have Big Brother Nova and Nova Jr. Great video and keep up the great work!
This definitely brings back memories of my 63 coupe that I purchased for 500 dollars back in 87 or 88 but put in a 350 that was built up in it really enjoyed it but my wife hated it because I was always working on it plus just had the family thing going on plus the house but yeah a street rod would be great Dan and you might even let Dani drive it some maybe put a big block or LS in it for shits and giggles but if your going to fix the floors you might as well fix that rear drivers quarter hope to see more of the duce be careful and stay safe my friend God love ya both
Chances are your trans cooler in the radiator is shot. There is water in the trans fluid A rebuild of a th 350 would be great content for the channel and you easily have the skills to do it. The detent cam places the valves in the valve body in the correct position for proper operation. Low and reverse share the same apply piston so problems with the apply piston can affect both gears.
Dan, the transmission friction material is bonded to the steel disc with a water soluble glue. No amount of fluid flushing is going to stop the friction material from falling off. You will have to build or replace the transmission. (Which is a 1969 or newer) Then, you need to have the radiator repaired.
I love this so much I’m like one minute into the video and I’m already seen Dan cutting the rear wheel wells out tubbing it wide tires big 454. This is gonna be awesome.
Those old 6 bangers had solid lifters. They all sounded like diesels. The little Nova is a keeper, for sure. A buddy had a '66 Nova that we did the full deal to. 327, huge cam, 13:1 compression, dual quad tunnel ram, straight axle, 4 speed, 456 gears with welded spiders. It was so light it was wicked fast and hard to control.
Not if you put a quart of Rislone in n your oil, I've had several of those straight-6 s over the years and they will start purring like a kitten within five minutes of Rislone.
My 2004 Tahoe two wheel drive transmission just went out I'm bummed out!! turned on your video and now I'm ordering parts to rebuild that 4L60E Ya!!! Thanks DD speed shop!! You always bring the car guy out of me!!! ✌️
whatever you do with the excess TH350 transmissions, do not junk them! Certain parts of the TH350 are getting really hard to find! You can utilize them eventually or sell them! I love your channel and your no-nonsense approach to the awesome cars you have!
With the garage roof leaking, this is the perfect time to jack it up a couple of feet so you can install a proper lift. The building wont weigh much once the asphalt is removed. Add two feet to the bottom of the walls and garage door.
Had a 4 cylinder ‘62 very similar to this one, white 2dr., red interior, back in the late 60’s that we bought and put in a 6 cylinder. Very nice little car for getting around town.
Man this brings back some memories, When I was in Iraq in 2003 one of my soldiers had 64 Nova that he was going to build when we got back home and I had a 73 SS El Camino that I had just started building when I left, we would talk for hours about our cars and what we were going to do to them.
Hey, Dan and Dani: 2Tawl from B.C. here...This Nova is a great choice for a cool drive train conversion.Whatever that may be, I'm sure it'll be a standout Dan-style ride.I once had a 66 chevyII, one tough little car.All the best on this one, Dan.Novas Forever!
Great find Dan. Dude. You have to build that into a gasser. You made all the right comments in the episode. Race car, straight axle. Do yourself a favour and forget about spending a dime on the shitty front end. Do the speedway straight axle kit up front. Radius the rear wheel openings and give it a gasser stance. The car will have all kinds of value for episodes and what it will be worth. Gets some other stuff done but put this on the agenda. It will totally be worth it. For now just get it running and moving so you can move it around. Build that baby into a killer gasser later.
i agree to an extent..yeah for something that is half assed decent but this one is fubarred ..gonna have to replace the bumper and work on the deck lid anyways so nothing was hurt
Did my ‘63 Chevy II with the Speedway axle then radiuses the rear. 275/60/15 fit fine back there. 155/80/15 fronts. Wish I could post a pic. It’s white and I built a TLB scoop out of a ‘65 Riviera trunk skin so it has the peak. Looks perfect. Do the gasser if it is legal to do up there. Fun car with a stick too!
Awesome pick Dan. This one holds great sentiment for me as well. In 1977. I got my 1st driver's license in a 1964 Chevy ll 6 cylinder 2 speed automatic.None of my old man's cars would have passed d m v inspection so I had to borrow his girlfriend's Chevy ll. If that one were dark green, I would swear my dad's girlfriend car had emigrated to Canada...
I had a 63 Nova in Highschool. It had a 59 - 283 pickup engine on homemade welded motor mounts, powerglide, 4 door. Ended up cracking the front sub-frame on the driver side motor mount weld. It was a fast car that Mustangs hated 😂
"you should not weld spring steel" - reminds me how i fixed turn signal relay in my friends car, it had brokend spring-thing, i soldered it and enforced with little bit of copper wire - worked like a charm XD I had fixed this car in many ways, he borrowed it to me for almost a year :)
Hi Dan I got a 65 two-door sedan. You have rear steer that means you have to have special oil pan.And a front sump oil pump draw tube. For a v8 conversion. Also V8 saddles for the motor mounts. You can spend$300 in trans fluid. Trying to flush it out. It's much easier just to pull it . Then install external trans cooler
My first video of yours I've ever seen. I'm a Mopar guy and got back into old cars by buying it's competitor 64 Plymouth Valiant post. $3500 USD with a 318 swapped in. Was completely torn down like yours. I'm almost "finished" after two years
Your comment to turn into racecar just came up. That's what one of the previous owners wanted to do lol. I used what I have and trying to make able to cruise around
I built a 63 chevy 2 post in the early 70's- I put a small block and remove the original 6. what I learned in the process of switching to a v8: nova had its own block for (clutch linkage), exhaust manifolds, oil pan, pump pick up (sump opposite from a standard chevy) due to the steering tie rod, oil pick up, front springs.
Sweet little nova! 64 100 series. Has mid level chrome trim which is nice! These are awesome little cars, I have had 3, two were 100 series like yours. Current one is an ss hardtop. All were 1965. It would be cool if you checked the cowl tag to see what options it had. I have a 383 stroker with the th350 currently. Eventually iam swapping it to a tri power 327 with 4 speed M21. Really enjoy your channel and all you, Danni, and Mur do! 👍👍
Big block fenderwell headers tunnel ram straight axle ford nine inch perfect racecar. And Dan keep your arm out from in between the cowl and rear of hood that's another video in it self. Have a great day
Chevyll Only out of Louisville KY has NOS, Vintage and repop parts for 63 67 Novas. Used them a ton for parts. Sometimes cheaper than Classic or NPD. Very personal service.
Chevy II 1962 - 67 , 4 , 6 & V-8 ( 283 ) . 65 got a 250 & 327 , both 250 & 300 HP . 66 & 67 got a Killer 350 HP 327 ( for the time period ) . 68 Name changed to Nova . 66 & 67 350 hp 327's came with skinny 14" tires , Corvettes with the 350hp 327's had skinny tires as well . Watched a pair of brand new 350 hp Chevy II's race against each other at the drag strip as well as a pair of brand new 350 Corvettes race as well . Neither driver of each class failed to slack off and when they raced spectators cleared the side lines . They needed new tires when they departed the drag strip , but man they put on a Hell of show for everyone . $5000 Canadian was a good investment . BTW is the Chevy II an Merica built car or a Canaddion built motorcar ? AWESOME VIDEO .
Another project I don't need for the time I don't have, but it's such a great deal and just picture a 64 ChevyII gasser. Throw a tire between the Bobcat and the car and make Dani less angry. Thank goodness for Mur, strange how things just go so much better when he's handy.
When I was a little kid my neighbor used his Chevy 2 to pull a tree stump out of his yard. I remember huge clouds of smoke pouring off of the14in. tires mounted on steel slotted mags which were a very popular upgraded at the time.
Doug here....DD Speed Shop fan.............Love the Nova! Great find!! 62-72 Chevy's are the pinnacle of good looking rides.
Haha comment of the day

Are you going to convert to a four door ? 😂. Cool find 😎
🤣🤣🤣

😂 would it kill you to hang an old tire on the front of the bobcat bucket🤪
It kind of hurt to watch!
Like he has any old junk tires laying around 😂
It was well past fubar’d already.
The dents in the bumper got dented
Why bother it looks like it has already been rear-ended by a bulldozer.
DD, you and Mur need more collaborations , so fun to watch you guys work together
Agreed

Most trans in early ll's were air cooled
Yep, had that happen in my `80 Chevy truck. I used an external cooler, problem solved.
he's right on. had that happen myself in an old caprice
@@craigpower6950 I've never seen that
Luck fer Dani... She'll enjoy this 64 Nova as much as u will enjoy yer Nova Dan! (( Multi-Nova's in the family ))
Certainly Dan has a old tire laying around for pushing, he sure has a old battery that is his go to. Little Nova is a keeper.

“Another project I don’t need, for the time I don’t have” story of my life.
😉👍
The car is worthy of the work needed to put it back together. They are getting quite valuable now, also parts are no problem.
I had a 62 Nova 2dr post with a 350, 4spd, 12bolt back in 82 ! Love the car 😊🤙🤙🤙 Aloha from Texas

You should get a big block, refresh it with aftermarket parts, and swap it in. What could possibly go wrong ?
That's what I love about old Chevys. They just start right up.
Mur NEEDS an honorary DD Speedshop plaid shirt too!
good to see you back working with the ol man
I love this so much I’m like one minute into the video and I’m already seen Dan cutting the rear wheel wells out tubbing it wide tires big 454. This is gonna be awesome.
I am with you we all know he haves a big block sitting around
Great fun Dan ! If memory serves the '64 Chevy doors will lock from the inside by pushing the release handles forward !
That is correct. Down n forward locks the doors.
That’s what I remember as well.
@@rodneybrown1696 that’s correct. But you only lock them from the outside with the key. There is no push down button in the window. Garnish.
Yep.
Nice 64 Dan and Daniel Good sharp
D D Speed Shop Merv and Dan on getting the 1964 Chevy 2 Nova back around 👍👍🤓🤓🍷👀👀👀
I like the charger plugged in and sitting in a puddle of water! Sketchy.
Cool to see you hanging out with Mur
Solid axel gasser build on this one would be awesome!!!!!!!!
How can someone "forget" a piece like that! Nice score!! Wish we still had great pieces like that here in New Brunswick!!
And here in nova scotia.
I haven’t even watched this yet but love your taste in cars
Those little Chevys made great race cars back in the day. This could be a lot of fun.

They make awesome Gassers.
