- The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square perform the Irish folk tune, "Danny Boy," at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado during the 2009 Central US Tour. "Danny Boy" is arranged by Mack Wilberg.
Lyrics:
O Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountainside
The summer's gone and all the roses falling
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
O Danny boy, O Danny boy, I love you so.
But when ye come and all the flowers are dying
If I am dead, as dead I well may be
Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
And I shall hear though soft you tread above me
And all my grave shall warmer, sweeter be
For you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.

My little brother Danny died of meningitis aged 7 in 1945, my parents were poor Irish working class people.
My mother had 10 children 6 died and only 4 of us survived to adulthood.
But, both of my parents never got over the loss of this precious little boy.
It brings me to tears every time I hear this song I never knew my brother but he has a place in all of our families hearts.
We are now only 3 siblings left my darling older sister died on Easter Sunday from the coronavirus, she is so sadly missed by us all.
But, I, pray to the almighty that one day soon we will all be reunited as a family in heaven if God so wills it. Amen
Thank you kingdom choir for a beautiful rendition of this famous Irish ballad.
The only time a ballad was written for a father to a dead son in Irish folklore.
We can always send them our comprehetion of their son desteny and finally give them a rest on Lords Heart. Have my profund respect
God bless your family.
😢
My empathy. May the Lord comfort and strengthen you and your family on your loss of those dear ones. My own mother also lost 2 daughters in their infancy to Measles in Africa. And for years, she cried over her loss. She still remembers them and her loss with some emotion. But thank God, she found the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and has hopes that someday we shall all meet as a united family never to be parted again.
MAY GOD BLESS THE TABERNACLE CHOIR. 50+YEARS AGO OUR IRISH TEACHER TOUGHT US THIS SONG IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL CALLED ST. MARY SCHOOL IN ETHIOPIA. MAY GOD BE PRAISED AND ALL MY FRIENDS GOD BLESS YOU WHEREVER YOU ARE.
I knew this song from my dad, when i was young, dad so love this song, ... but now my dad was rest in Christ.
I can still remember my mother calling to me these many years ago...Oh Danny Boy where are you ?..may you rest in peace my beloved mother...your son. ..danny thomas
My dad was called sonny boy by his parents and he used to sing this song to us . It makes me sad yet happy to hear it.
My dads name was Daniel so we called him danny boy I miss you dad ❤
My cousin Danny was named after this song, it was a favorite of his father's
Takes you out of this world, into another realm of appreciation.
One of my all-time favorite Irish songs and done so beautifully by the Mormon Choir!
I love this song it reminds me of my dad who passed away
His name was Daniel and his family called him Danny Boy.
I miss him so much and he would sing this song to us as children many times.😪😪
One of the most beautiful songs ever , greetings from Ireland ,☘️
I had the privilege of seeing the Tabernacle choir rehearse on Temple Square last October for the first time . I closed my eyes to focus on the singing. To me it was most heavenly sound I had heard. 5 days before that I watched them sing 'Loves Divine, all Loves Excelling' at the end of the morning session of General Conference. It was that wonderful it brought me to tears.
The most Divine, Sincere, and Majestic rendition of Danny Boy ever Conceived for our Eyes and Ears! I care not who, what, when, where, or why such music came to be, all I know is that from the words and harmonies, this is a song of love...unconditional unrelenting love!
I wish to thank the Tabernacle Choir for sharing this awesome Irish music video with me .
I lived this song. I departed for Iraq and got home seven days before my father died.
I love the Tabernacle Choir...voices are angelic and they always bring the Spirit of the Lord in all their performances...so wondrous and great...!!!
A lovely song.
I'm from north eastern India and I love this song from my heart, you really needn't to be an Irishman to feel the beauty of the wonderful song.
You dont have to be Irish, just human
The song is known in Ireland as The Derry Air, which means the Derry Tune. Derry being an Irish city and County. A lady visiting and staying overnight in lodgings heard a travelling bard (a fiddle player) play the tune outside her window on the street.. No words are known to have existed. She asked a song writer to put words to it. It's about a father seeing his son off to war. having lost one son already. Danny, Dan, Donal, Daniel and Donald are the same name. It can be a first or second name. If a surname, it is likely to be prefixed by O (of the clan) or Mac (son of). It connects back to the biblical book of Daniel. Meaning strong man blessed by God. In the prophecy it was said a strong man would emerge as a leader in the world about now. Watch out for him, it is said is name will be Daniel and the hand of God is upon him.
LONDON derry per my irish wife born and raised there..
Derry to some .....Londonderry to others........ as with most things in Ireland nothing is straightforward.... best wishes from Ireland
known as the " Londonderry Air "
Well I’m a little old in the tooth now and my back is a bit bowed by the load the Lord has placed there, but it has softened me and made me a better man because of it.
Love that story
Simply touching and beautiful! Dear God, guide us to abide by Your rules until we meet in Your Kingdom one day!
Music is the universal language
This song is for my cousin Scott who died un Nov 12 unexpectedly...you were like a brother to me my you rest in peace and god rest your soul. May we meet again on green pastures.
One of the most perfound prices of music ever written performed in one of the most magnificent venues in the world
Sang this to my son 38 years ago . When he started to sing it ,he always puy a little extra into "I love you so". Irish you may not be by blood ,but this song gets to any person who has loved ones distant.
God must felt intense joy to see this quire from above. Imagine what joy we will share soon with Jesus in heaven.
Absolutely Stunning. It's like the sound of Angels in Heaven 😇😇
Made me tears out from my eyes...

It is a beautiful amphitheater right at the foot of the Rocky Mountains here in Colorado.

Brothers and sisters, you have kept me going through this Pandemic. God Bless you All.❤💯
What a beautiful melodic piece so well crafter by the Tabernacle Choir.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado is one of world's most beautiful, natural, musical ventures for concerts! Awesome performance!
Red Rocks Colorado is one of the most unique places I have ever been. Very few people were there the day we stopped just to see the place. My kids had no trouble at all hearing my scolding from the "stage". .. and neither did the other people in the back who applauded.

I believe I have all the Choir's albums; they're the best. And, if you like Danny Boy, you should view Shenandoah. The Orchestra at Temple Square and Bells of Temple Square are such marvelous additions to this fabulous choir. Thanks to all of you, you're just precious.
Aloha to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and everyone else responsible for this iconic song "Danny Boy." Let's do our best and ask God's protection for
the whole world as we are living such troubled times~~~~Covid-19 pandemic killing millions of people all over the world, climate change affecting humans
and all other living creatures too, hostility and waging wars among nations in the world, etc. In Jesus's name I humbly ask for your prayers and positive
actions to promote more loving kindness and peace in this troubled planet !!!!!! Sincerely, Robert S.J. Hu September 30, 2020.
Never seen this before, but "wow" I love a good choir, and this must be one of the best.

I believe I really do that at times we get glimpses of heaven if we are open to see them... it may be in the simplicity of a flower or something grander and this is one of those moments... truly magnificent - the Derry air... some lyric changes but lovely
This version is an uprising of serene melding together of everyone's spirit..beautiful indeed..
Theres all.sorts of great genres of music out there, but some like this one commands the utmost of reverence, choral combined with orchestra, the mother of all music genres!

how beautiful how beautiful is this Oh Danny Boy the pipes the pipes are calling from Glen to Glen
I LOVE the Red Rocks. What a beautiful setting & music.
The ones who gave thumbs down don't even have the slightest idea how difficult it is to lead a choir to such delicate dynamics. The arrangement may be kitsch, but the interpretation makes it art.
How is it possible to give a thumbs down on such a beautiful gift?!
Such a powerful song. It touches us the way we, uniquely human, should be touched. I love singing this song, but find it difficult to finish it without crying.
Amazing. The one and only. Of all times. Transcendent.
Wow, that was nice.

Ah, but can one enjoy the different feeling each version conveys? We all have favorites. But listen to the different nuances. Enjoy. What peace they each bring. It can be like watching a sunset. Every day is different. Every sunset glorious. Each song done well is a beauty all its own.

A favorite of President Gordon B. Hinckley, as it is mine. The words tell such a beautiful message of everlasting love that not even death can not separate.
LOVE is stronger than death. Trish
And arranged by Mack Wilberg, and conducted by Craig Jessop at the Choir broadcast the Sunday following Hinckley’s death.
