I have owned the Blackbox for many years. It is by far the most important instrument I own. I avoid the computer for anything to do with creating music. The black box is therefore at the center of my creative workflow, with constantly changing devices around it. No tool can be everything for everyone. But the Blackbox has come a long way since version 1.0 and for me it completely replaces a DAW. When I got the Blackbox, I thought about writing a tool myself to convert SoundFont to the Blackbox format. Nothing came of it, so I'm very happy to hear that you're working on it.
@@mossgraber Some points from yesterdays firmware version 3.0.15: - Supports import of multisample sets using the filename to set the root note and velocity. - Sample pool is now 576 samples instead of 80 samples. - Loads loop points embedded into multisample sets. Very cool!
Blackbox + Micromonsta 2 + Roland J-6 ; perfect on-the-go gear. I would absolutely an xox style step sequencer, accomplished just by a fixed zoom. Should be easy to implement and make life so much easier (for me). Great video Jurgen, cheers.
Hi there thx a lot for your amazing efforts in supporting controllers for BItwig. I own Blackbox since almost the very beginnning and I can say it's a very nice sampler but as you said it's not for sound design. When I got it I wished for a machine that could resemble battery in hardware format but it's nowhere near. For me ny biggest grips are the following: 1) No midi control for the fx sends. pretty lame since they have already it implemented for Bluebox. 2) No way to address the headphone output as a separate out/s or a send/s. They have already done this for bluebox. 3) Complicated midi implementation with significant differences between the soft updates. However the last update has a much better song mode. 4) No access to midi bank cc Numbers along with the program changes and thus now way to recall more than 128 presets. This is really getting on my nerves since I suppose it could be a very easy fix to accomplish programmatically and could make Blackbox much more versatile. I have asked for it numerous times throughout the years that I've owned Bbox and I have been denied repeatedly with no clear explanation. 5) No way to export stems from sequences or songs and no usb connectivity to transfer samples without having to remove the sd card and put in a PC. I think if they released the code to the public then taking into account the big number of people that have embraced this little beauty the soft side could have been much more efficient. So with regard to your sample convert program I would really love to see some options for the slicer too and not only the multisamples. Maybe also some connection to the octatrack slice format. Thx again, take care!!
Thanks for the detailed insights! 1) yeah, focus is on the pad triggering, maybe that's intentional to have the Bluebox as the mixer... 2) Would be nice! 3) I really like the song mode, pretty intuitive. 4) Should be an easy but I guess most people are simply happy with 127. 5) Yes, forgot to mention this in the video, I was also surprised to not find an export option but at least you can resample into one of the slots. Regarding slicing, this will not likely happen soon, this would first mean to have more formats which do slicing.
Hey man, great video I wanted to ask: I want to buy one of this boxes, mainly for multi-sampeling hardware synth to take on stage. I was pretty locked on the Tangerine until the latest firmware update of the Blackbox. Would you say the multisampling engine of both boxes are the same? is playing multi-samples from the Blackbox via keyboard would feel the same as the tangerine? would love to hear your opinion
The engine is identical. If you want to take it on stage I would suggest the blackbox since it is made out of metal. Something to note: both models can currently not do key-ranges on the device, so you would need to have a master keyboard with this ability if you need such a feature.
@@mossgraber ok great, so I could play polyphonic notes via midi with the Blackbox exactly like the tangerine right? and now with the latest firmware update I basically have the same ability of resampling engine and storage on the Blackbox as the tangerine?
Did you say that blackbox does not support midi over usb at 4:02 but that the nanobox does? Is that really correct? I'd expect usb midi host support to be available on the more expensive blackbox
@mossgraber ok, I've seen conflicting information about this online. Usb midi host support is essential for me and I the blackbox does have other features that I want. This excludes all 1010 devices for me unfortunately. :/
@@DavidBerglund Just to be clear: I was talking about the connection to the computer. But you can connect e.g. a class compliant keyboard to the blackbox.
Have you ever tried a Sustain Pedal with the Nanbox Tangerine? I want to use the Tangerine for piano samples and I need a sustain pedal to work, some synths and samplers Do Not except Sustain Pedal Midi Information. Thank you for the great comparison video! I can't get a straight answer on this sustain pedal... I need to know 100% before I buy it because I can't return the product, it's a special order from my music store. Thanks again!
I guess you mean: can it receive MIDI CC pedal hold information. Yes, that works fine. But there is no pedal connector on the device, if that was the question.

Yes, upcoming! First output of my feedback got already implemented today :-) Blackbox supports now the same number of samples as the tangerine!

ein sehr guter Beitrag ! Thnnxx !
The newest firmware upped the samples to 576 like the tangerine

Hello, noobs question. Is it possible to have in one sequence more than one sample?
Yes, you can play (and therefore the sequence can contain) any note of any of the 16 slots. Each slot can contain a multi-sample.
First!
Congratulations, but there is sadly no price ;-)
Second 😂
