How can Damien Rice write so many flawless songs like this? This song is simply perfect! Almost like The Blower's Daughter. I'd enjoy to see it in an album...
"The music, the lyrics, his voice....all so powerful!!! At 2:09 when he sings "I have claimed that God has guided me and killed to prove I'm right, What if I'm wrong???" MAJOR goosebumps. " from mordandis2
A song which pretty much sums up my perspective on religion and philosophy. The title carries a provocative question which most people will dare not to answer: "What if I'm wrong?!!" . And The lyrics carry a very deep and profound message. This song deserves a nobel peace prize.
This is, by far, the best song to have ever been created. It is CRIMINAL he didn't release a studio version of this, but this video will have to do. I'm going to learn it and play it when I next go busking 🙏🤘
"What If I'm Wrong" I could wrestle with tomorrow Until tomorrow's in the past Because I have torn apart what's beautiful To prove that nothing lasts I have stayed locked behind these doors To show there's no way out I got lost within the space between The question and the doubt On an ordinary day In an ordinary way I have combed the cracks of virtue For a place to lay the blame And I have hated, I have lied Been guilty and denied I've dismissed the ones who question me Declaring I am right What if I'm wrong What if I'm wrong I have built a wall between What I believed and what is true I have sacrificed the love I had For power over you I have convicted those who disagree And walked over the weak I have placed a gun within the mouth Of those who dared to speak And on an ordinary day In an ordinary way I have crushed the minds of children With extraordinary shame And I have carried on this war Though no one wins an endless fight I have claimed that God has guided me And killed to prove I'm right What if I'm wrong What if I'm wrong What if I'm wrong What if I'm wrong Is this soul worth saving at all? Cause if I lose my wings then surely I must fall And the gods prayed to the gods they made We could wrestle with tomorrow until tomorrow's in the past We could tear apart what's beautiful To prove that nothing lasts We could stay locked behind the doors To show there's no way out We could get lost within the space between The question and the doubt But what if we're wrong?
He is the only guy I fall in love with in my entire life. I have lost the faith of finding a guy as half amazing as him. Thank Damien for making me a better human.
If you can only settle for Damien Rice, just because of the shallow opinion of admiring him as a musically and poetically gifted artist, then there's something wrong with you, not with other guys.
I understand where you coming from.. Even I feel I can connect better with a person who realises what blessing is Damien rice to music and song writing
It's about time people make their peace with the fact they choose their own separate ways,I love them both ! But they had their time together and gave us in the mean while plenty of GREAT songs! Just try to be grateful and enjoy them! Along with the ones they make on their own .Peace
I don't know if it's planned or not, but I love how Damien little by little take steps backward over the course of the song to eventually fully give Julia the stage when it was her turn.
This song continues to find meaning in my life. Currently, it gives voice to my concern for the 2020 U.S. election (I'm U.S.) and fear toward the schism of our people from our governance and our governance from truth, morals, and duty. I'm in the process of signing up to volunteer as an election worker during this pandemic in response to efforts to suppress mail-in voting (which would have been the ideal format for this year). I believe our majority wishes the next four years to look nothing at all like the last four years. I believe if we can hold a fair election, that we'll at least become stable on a world stage and conduct appropriate pandemic behavior. I'm embarrassed and discouraged when I hear opinions of my countryfolk who seem willing to give up our institution's redeeming features and foundations to stick it to the rest of us. They seem the bad actors in Damien's lyrics: "I have built a wall between what I believe and what is true. I have sacrificed the love I have for power over you." The consequence of these attitudes have lead to schools reopening with insufficient precautions, and the grimmest stanza feels like it's about to come true: "On an ordinary day, in an ordinary way, I have crushed the minds of children with extraordinary shame. I have carried on this war, though no one wins an endless fight. I have claimed that God is guiding me, and killed to prove I'm right." My sincere hope is that the impending damage brings us to reflection, and the question asked in the minds of those who laid bare their contempt will be the chorus-- "what if i"m wrong?"-- before the rest of us and the free world ask the bridge-- "Is this soul worth saving at all?" Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk or whatever. If you read this far, you must also really feel something about this song.
1.20 "i have built a wall between what i believe and what is true." says a lot about us all about our own beliefs and our own philosophies.... sent chills down my spine! another song of beauty by Damien. it needs Lisa though i must agree.
The song is just so so so so incredibly good and these lyrics are just sheer poetry Damien Rice is such a talented man and yes Lisa Hannigan would make this song amazing but if she was still singing with him I doubt he would have ever written this song
I was SO disappointed when I found out this performance happened!! I live in Santa Barbara, and Damien Rice is one of my absolute favorite artists. I didn't hear about this performance until after the screening had ended. Can't believed I missed such a rare opportunity to see him in the US :(
yeah this is top top notch - the lyrics are really different from classic damo stuff - usually all of his songs are more to do witht he raw feeling and the mood given to the listener by the actual composition (ie. then go), but this has that aspect and very emotive lyrics, its very bright eyes in places, i ADORE it. the quality is also 10/10, brava!
I have seen him live...in paris. That was probably 4 years ago now. It was a solo gig and still the most memorable gig ive been to, you couldnt help but be blown away. Not as much of a fan as I used to be, but if tickets went on sale id be first in line!
@NiklasWalendy (from dec 2009) He now admits it was their failed romance that led to the split and says he regrets that decision. "I love her," Rice said. "I love her so much. And I love her so much that I love that she hasn't spoken to me -- because even in that I have learned so much over the last two years." He told Hot Press he "would give away all the music success, all the songs, and the whole experience to still have Lisa in my life."
True! It's like you're saying: he's just as good solo, because he really is! The same for Lisa, love her album! But why would he start something new with a whole new gal?? I think he shouldn't! As long as he makes music with other woman, people will always go on about Lisa... No one will be as good as her. It's like Glen once said, Lisa adds wings to Damo's music.. she really did...
I don't know why people think it is wrong toi mention Lisa. Yes, Damien is great himself. But Lisa was a big part of his music and she is also amazing herself. Put the two together and you have amazingness beyond what the mind can fathom. Damien is AMAZING on his own. But she can not be replaced. This girl doesn't even hold a candle to Lisa's enormous flame. Lisa is extraordinary. Damien is extraordinary. Together they made heads explode.
nothing more to say (and i said it so many times). miss u lisa. to me it always feels so wrong to put this (not bad voiced) young girly next to this extraordinary musician, while she's totally stunned and impressed and then hushes some cute little text. lisa felt the songs and had the voice to prefectly complete the female parts in the songs.
yeah i miss lisa too... she would sit there silently taking everything in, the emotions and the atmosphere of the room and when it was her time to sing she would use those emotions to sing strong and beautifully.
i wish damien sang the last line. not because of her, but it would sound better if he completed the song...it's a real great song that i seemed to forgot how good it is
how good was that please??? i arent sure what damien is doing with regards to a 3rd album but if this is nething to go by im really hoping he does make another...and we see it soon!!!!
God I love this man. My favourite artist of all time. I hate the way everyone bangs on about Lisa. They were great together yes, but he is just as good solo, and so is she. He still loves her, its sad :( Because English people have no appreciated of anything except wannabe American gangstas and ten-a-penny pop songs, he rarely comes over here either. He did a tour of South America a while ago, why not do a tour of South-East England :(
@Coffeejunkie84 people should definitely stop putting Lisa related comments and should appreciate Damo himself. He's still amazing. I saw his performance from 2008 just yesterday and he doesn't need her at all (well maybe in his life)! I'm Lisa's massive fan by the way. I'm quite curious about the thing Glen said. When did he did so? How do you know and what else did he say?
ok,the concert was supposed to be held in the privatre gardens of a medieval castle... it was going to be a dream.. now.. due to the earthquake. it was first moved in the towns square.. and now at a bloody motorbike stadium... i am so fucking unlucky,.
@MARKMAN9393 Yeah, if you like Damien Rice you should check out this sweet local band in Tulsa, OK out on face book called: Waldo and the Minotaur! Haha!
i saw an interview he did where he said he took his mother , sister and his girlfriend to a Leonard Cohen concert and by the end of the show all 3 wanted to go home w/ LC
Bless her she looks really nervous.Just imagine thinking of singing after the legend Damien Rice.Hats off to her I say...
Because she knows she isn't Lisa Hannigan
i thought she smashed it
This guy is one of the greatest ever, hands down.

When I first heard this, I misheard that part as "I have claimed that God has died in me and killed to prove I'm right". I kinda prefer my version.
A song which pretty much sums up my perspective on religion and philosophy. The title carries a provocative question which most people will dare not to answer: "What if I'm wrong?!!" . And The lyrics carry a very deep and profound message. This song deserves a nobel peace prize.

Declaring I am right
What if I'm wrong
What if I'm wrong
I have built a wall between
What I believed and what is true
I have sacrificed the love I had
For power over you
I have convicted those who disagree
And walked over the weak
I have placed a gun within the mouth
Of those who dared to speak
And on an ordinary day
In an ordinary way
I have crushed the minds of children
With extraordinary shame
And I have carried on this war
Though no one wins an endless fight
I have claimed that God has guided me

@gomitogomez1 ... i read that and thought... this person better be 14.
Even after all these years, this song is still very relevant to my life.
It's about time people make their peace with the fact they choose their own separate ways,I love them both ! But they had their time together and gave us in the mean while plenty of GREAT songs! Just try to be grateful and enjoy them! Along with the ones they make on their own .Peace
I have listened to this song almost every day for weeks
I don't know if it's planned or not, but I love how Damien little by little take steps backward over the course of the song to eventually fully give Julia the stage when it was her turn.
Damien is amazing as always...He gives me chills with his voice and his guitar... I want the new album and another gig...
we're all wrong ~ by silence
love his gift of reality.
This Song is so Beautiful!
+Emilio Gutierrez Vazquez Don't you mean powerful?

My goodness...incredible.
Seriously wish they recorded this version for a album. So much more emotional then the studio version out there.
Excelent song, he is one of my fav performance.
omg..im speechless.. what an artist
I cry of joy when I listen to his voice... ♥
This song is absolutely amazing. Especially when he says "I have killed to prove I'm right"

This song needs to be in the next CD, if it ever comes
DAMIEN GREAT VOICE...
Id be nervous if I were sitting on Stage with Damien too, singing after that performance! Wow!
@NiklasWalendy (from dec 2009)

Look at the face on the new girl at 2.22/2.23. She cannot believe what he is putting into it! He gives it his soul!
he doesnt play music ,he IS music...
l love damien rice and i think all your songs are amazing my dream is to have you sing at my wedding lol i know weird
:) Lo amo
yeah i miss lisa too... she would sit there silently taking everything in, the emotions and the atmosphere of the room and when it was her time to sing she would use those emotions to sing strong and beautifully.
cause of this man i have seriously doubted my sexuality...
I love how creased his pants are... & sure I miss Lisa
i wish damien sang the last line. not because of her, but it would sound better if he completed the song...it's a real great song that i seemed to forgot how good it is
@DamoRulezz these are some wise words man!
Damien Rice forgot he has fans waiting eagerly for a new record
solidity
how good was that please??? i arent sure what damien is doing with regards to a 3rd album but if this is nething to go by im really hoping he does make another...and we see it soon!!!!
@EyesofNeurosis he was talking to someone. He wasn't saying that himself.
And he`s coming to Taiwan!!
@smushface999 Oh my goodness... True love.
God I love this man. My favourite artist of all time.

@TheLittlemorgan hey but 'Teeth' isn't about Damien! The song's actually been alive long before they broke up
ok,the concert was supposed to be held in the privatre gardens of a medieval castle... it was going to be a dream.. now.. due to the earthquake. it was first moved in the towns square.. and now at a bloody motorbike stadium... i am so fucking unlucky,.
@MARKMAN9393 Yeah, if you like Damien Rice you should check out this sweet local band in Tulsa, OK out on face book called: Waldo and the Minotaur!
Haha!
i miss damien WITH lisa hannigan.
At 1.10, shes like 'wow'
@frht454 what do u mean? Lisa?
Nice comback. What's up with Blonie-Joe?!
@yagzz4lyf Lisa said Damien fired her out of the blue.
I know it's weard but Katty perry is a really good musician ... she was in a band before she become what she is now ...
how was it?
@Wolle8890 She left Damien Rice to pursue her own career.
He so nailed her
I think Damien is writing song lyrics that are on par with Leonard Cohen's now.
i saw an interview he did where he said he took his mother , sister and his girlfriend to a Leonard Cohen concert and by the end of the show all 3 wanted to go home w/ LC
@@tangobelair Yeah he even wrote a song about it lol
lyrics...... and all of it....
@ArtjomGlad Couldn't agree more! He is a music and SEX God!!!
@Wolle8890 he kick her out of the band and then she finally got to make her own stuff...
Julia Dubsky is the female singer.
what if I'm wrong?!
Sorry but actually i like it that way related to the theme. she epitomize the weak. i like it.
anyone have an idea of tuning or chords yet?
Oh girl... sit down... Damien doesn't need anyone with him. He does perfectly well on his own.
a lament for/to lisa?
@DamoRulezz check yuna come as you are cover....superb....
and yes,,the girl is scared, so what? all of damien's songs are about being scared and being wrong and not being perfect.. I like her.
@TheJulianeMaciel Can you blame her!?
after a discussion, what if i'm wrong?, classical question :/
who;s the girl
hmmm, where were they in a hurry to?
Quite possibly one of the most powerful songs he's ever written. Unfortunately, on the down side, she's no Lisa...
anyone know what kind of guitar he's playing?
@chrismalone2 julia, duh (lol)
ah, beautiful song...
this girl is nice, though I miss Lisa... :[
Where is lisa ?
Sallie Ray doing her own thing, beautiful creature. So much more to the rice!!!!!! Morr dessert than pudding. Peace and love
