Thank you for the scholarship and extensive research. I feel so fortunate to be able to stand on your collective shoulders and view the restoration from a scholarly perspective.
Thank you for creating this series and this final question session. It's nice to gain access to scholarship of this nature in such an easily consumable format. You've framed things in ways I've never previously considered.
Consider the experience of those who were with Saul (Paul) on the road to Damascus. In one account they heard a voice; in another they saw a light but heard no voice. In any case, they were shaken, while Saul was transformed. Acts 9:7; 22:9
Joseph not only saw the Father and the Son, but felt the Father and the Son through the power of the Holy Ghost and felt a fire and power. Words are inadequate.
Concerning whether it was face to face or a vision... I would guess both. There's not really anything that hinders from contact in a vision as seen in Ezekiel and other prophets. Plus, from what I understand, The Lord's mere presence on the earth in the second coming will melt the elements and burn the wicked
Paul had 3 different versions of his manifestation. See M.D. Harris Institute 2011, especially comment section where quite a few are skeptical and point out the discrepancies.
