“I’m a farm kid” Love you Wilder. You are smart beyond your years. All the kids are. Very smart, and they all love to help. That’s the way we grew up. We were farm kids to. When your kids grow up get married and have kids of their own they will truly see how blessed they were to be raised the way they were raised. It’s a blessing to me. I’m proud that I was a farm kid. ♥️
@@debinbc At 65 just short of 66 I too am glad to be a farm kid! Memories of all the things I helped do and accomplished helped me when I was a city dweller and now with my chickens and garden. Loving life!

Yes! Ping ping! Love that sound! This year Mom heard it over the phone and asked what I was canning. We shared a lovely moment over canning. She has Alzheimer’s. These moments are so precious. So now for the rest of my life the pinging sound will be extra precious to me.
Love Wilder's reply, "I'm a farm kid". So cute. Don't throw out the canner with the holes in it. It will make a great planter for outdoors come Spring. Thanks for sharing another great day on the homestead.
I've heard from other RUclipsrs that Ball no longer recommends putting jars in the oven for warming, they are not intended for any kind of dry heat processing and recommend they be kept warm in hot water or in the dishwasher. Good for you helping others to see that canning isn't a mysterious and dangerous process. Thank you!
We live in Northern Alberta, 🇨🇦 and when I heard the temperature I laughed. We are sitting at -21 and feels like -26. Had to put a couple heat lamps in with the chickens. They love me. 😊. Ideally, we want them to acclimate to the cool temps but when it gets those temps we need to step in. Love your channel. Keep up the great works. Blessings 😊💕🙏🏻
I always love the parting phrase above the episode number. This one was especially sweet. Your children are beautiful and y'all are giving the greatest gift.....a healthy and fun childhood!
Over the years I have collected jars from Goodwill. This year I was able to purchase 15 widemouth jars for a good price. My sweet friend helped me empty 15 boxes of jars out of my parents cellar. Only 5 jars of too old venison meatballs, pickled beets and tomatoes. 5 jars isn’t to bad. You could put a rivet in the pot to repair it. My dad always repaired pans that way. He passed away today 86 years old.
Yes, that "dink" is like music to our ears! I just finished a last batch of bread and butter pickles and 2 batches of green tomato salsa verde!!! The last of the year!!! We had a bumper crop year of tomatoes, blackeyes, cukes, winter squash, and okra!!! We are thankful here in Northern California! "I'm a farm kid"!Love you guys!
We always dump out our shoes and tap them together hard. Between the brown recluse, black widows, scorpions and centipedes, we can’t slip our shoes on until they’ve been thoroughly tapped out.
Disabled and 57 in a few days , my first garden this year. I had a fall winter garden planned but my back decided against it. Looking at surgery this spring. I'm planning on teaching my son's what I know this spring, I'm gonna need workers so my sons will be appointed. 😁
the apple with the bottom "on the side" isn't fully pollinated - the seeds in that part aren't viable, so the tree doesn't waste resources fleshing it out. The orchard it grew in needs more bees!
Some apples have pink or red flesh! I have a small Pink Pearl apple tree that has pink flesh and I have a red-fleshed one on a waitlist at Raintree Nursery.
Sir , you can’t take this lady’s grain . 😂 LOL Love you guys , be blessed and favored 🙏🏽❤️ Oh yeah Bri , the musical canners ping ! The most satisfying sound !
We tried something new this year. We cut & peeled our apples and instead of grinding them up we pressure cooked them. They are some of the smoothest applesauce I have ever had. Smooth as silk.
I always peel my apples for apple sauce. One year I cooked them down with the skins on to save time and then ran them through a food mill but we did not like the dark color of the apple sauce when you cook them down with the skins on.
ART & BRI....you can use your pressure canner instead! Don't "lock" it down, just use a lid that will cover the top and there you go....an impromptu water bath canner...it works!
You can put something On the bottom of a big stainless steel pot and put your jars in them to can that’s what I do. I don’t have one of those big canners. she can use her big pots they work. thanks for the video.🤗🥰🇨🇦
I love Haralson apples, great all around use, eating, applesauce, pie, anything you can think of. Just the right balance of sweet and tart. If you grow them you need to thin the apples as they grow in clusters, so thinning gets you much bigger apples. Here in northern Minnesota, we wait for the leaves on the tree to start turning color, at that point the apples are as big and as ripe as they will get. I've kept them in the bottom drawer of my fridge in perfect shape for 6 months.
We invested in an Electric canner. Best investment ever 😳 👌 saves so much stove space and I can set it by the sink. No more hauling water back and forth.
If you want to make your hay last longer, a good bail-type hay feeder can cut wastage from upwards of 50% of every bale to barely a handful. Of course, the wasted hay isn't there to use as their bedding, but if they're not sleeping on their good nutritious expensive hay because they're eating it all, you can get low-grade straw or sawdust or woodchips for their bedding.
Wow bri want an amazing accomplishment with all that good apple sauce !!! I ordered apples and am now gonna try to do this myself because u inspire me so much !!!! Thank you !!!!
We also had the no jars and I was also wondering when they would be stocked up again. I really figured it would not be until next spring. However about a week ago they were in Walmart, and I also found them at a local small country shop. And the prices are pretty normal. I had tried to order online in the no availability and they were asking 100 dollars for a dozen. I was blown away. Obviously did not order but thought oh no I hope that when they are available there is no taking advantage. But they are not. Maybe a few dollars more. I can live with that. The apples look like honey crisp. and yes. that clink or ping lol. it is the best feeling.
They look like a Gala Apple - the right amount of sweet and tart - we sell the little ones like that here in New Zealand in bags as kids apples - also inside the supermarket door as you get to the produce section there is a basket of fruit that is free for the kids to get a piece to eat in store - they are allowed to walk around eating it

You need an apple wedger, so much quicker to cut apples up.

IR? I save everything that will hold a plant. Even the strainer from an old spaghetti pot.
@@gelwood99 me too.
That canner was already on the blink. Those rust spots just won't hold up. Once they show up, the pot is a gonner. Use it as a "flower pot."
Or haul veggies from the garden.
Opening on Wilder... "I'm a farm kid"... heart melts... thanks for another great day on the homestead, because you could have just ended right there 😍

ANY large pot can be used as a water bath canner so long as they are deep enough to hold enough water to cover the jars.
Yah, we weren't very particular with my mom and grandma. ;)

Broken bricks are good when you need a half brick. Great progress, I get needed encouragement from your family. Thank you!

Hi..... Art and Bri nice to see you all thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐕🐖🐈🌱🐐🐄🎥👍👍👍
That little man is a natural at the outside life love your adventurers
I have atleast 4 cases of small jars that I'm willing to send you if you want them.. I bought extra little ones(jelly) and didn't use them..
That is so nice of you.
Those cobwebs in the barn would be driving me crazy. I hate spiders. So I would be taking a broom to the webs as soon as I seen one,
Broken bricks can be used as borders, to help drainage, or as thermal mass around plants... BUT de-cluttering by getting rid of it is great too.
So much closer too your goal. God bless you all.

Patch the canner with JB weld.
Use your pressure canner as a water bath. Do it all the time as a second canner when doing waterbath
Keep some of the broken ones for the half bricks you'll need building that firepit.
Yes the 'PING' is a great sound
Clean canner pot... Find a heavy bounce ball insert then use as a ball chair.. put some felt on bottom so doesn't scratch the floor.... 👍

🧱🧱💡🧱But anytime you work in masonry you need pieces. Don’t throw the broken away. Unless you want to break whole 🧱 later
Food security is so important ! good for you.
Yeah, I'm frustrated about jars, too.
Yes I do. I’m going to make my set of apple glasses tomorrow
I'm in central Ohio and starting to see jars at Kroger and Menards.
Water bath in any large pot that will submerge the cans by an inch
Hardware stores and feed stores 😍 canners
Mom gets a new canner!!!
We missed the apple harvest this year on our homestead... since we’re new, there is just too much to do that took precedence. Happy Thanksgiving guys!

You can use a roaster for canning foods. Just turn on two burners instead of one.
