A musical collage of expat life photos from Dubai 1983-87 set to a song recorded and sung by myself at the time on a good old 4 track cassette machine!
We were there in 74, back and forth, just left end of 2009, 25 years total and we had the best of it in the 80's and 90's, I'll go back some day to live. Thanks for the memories!
@@abdulrahmanalmuhairi5766 One thing I dont understand, where did all the western expats live back in the 1970s and 80s? I mean outside of Deira and Bur Dubai, was there much else? it was mostly desert outside these two areas
I went 1979 stayed 40 years. Our 2 lads born bred educated (except unni). Got involved with rallys. Did ALL the Masafi 4x4s, Desert Challenge and others. Heavly involved with the 1980 mock F1 at the Hyatt/Galleria. Great times great life. In fact i am in Dubai typing this.
I live here in Canada, I see so much poverty here in North America,, so many homeless people everywhere especially after Covid. I am not sure what is the situation in Europe. But the Gulf region in Middle East is still prospering as before and I think they will continue to prosper because the leaders there despite being Monarchy, really care for the people. Never have I seen homeless and drug addicts on streets in the Gulf like here in North America, they are doing something right there which we in the West are not
Look how much of their wealth the likes of Saudi, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the likes plough back into their country and people compared to a lot of the African countrys of wealth. You are right they are doing something right.@@Deira854
Ha ha - I remember all this. We used to fish off the bottom of the bridges on the creek. Doubt you can get away with that now. Probably pretty dirty too.

Is that Jumeirah mosque at 2:57? I live not far from there now and you'd be standing in Spinneys supermarket if you took that photo today. I've been here just 8 years but I would have loved to have lived here in the 80's.
There was freedom people believed in simple livings. The small uneven lanes with sand houses with wind towers to cool down your homes. Really a lot more then the words can say. Sorry don't know how. But I will always remember Dubai.
@@anandsatta186 what? I dont think expats ever lived in those wind tower houses, in fact they were abandoned by the locals by 1960s and locals moved in modern nice villas, you have no idea what you are talking about
@CliffordSGM Hi - yes it is indeed Jumeirah mosque, and there was a Spinneys in those days too on the same side of the road as the mosque. Dubai was a very different place in the 80s!
