Yeah, arms race was trash but I guess that's just what happenens if you blindly follow trends without recognizing what makes the thing great in the first place.
I think they were actually a threat. The intro has them easily beat up Lilith, and we know how powerful Lilith is. Throughout the game you see them send COV enemies at you with Lilith's power, meaning they are actually actively trying to stop you. They end up killing Maya and taking her powers. They end up partnered with Maliwan, which gives the COV access to Maliwan tech. In the end Tyreen does get to absorb the destroyer's powers, which could have been a massive problem for the entire universe if we didn't stop her immediately. Not to mention that they are just an actual menace to the universe in general. They unified the Psycho's into a cult, creating a massive army that is rampaging all over the place. Together with their Maliwan alliance, this was enough to shake both Atlas and Jakobs, two major forces in the universe who would have been completely taken over if not for our interference. I've sunk a few hundred hours in, and it's still among my most frequented games. I had to tweak some settings to properly enjoy it, though. Something involving dialogue volume.
BL3 did significantly expand on Siren lore. It just wasn't spoon fed to the player. Also saying Amara fell victim to numbers is wild. Idk when you played the game, but Amara was capable of dealing so much damage that the damage popups couldn't even display it. She could one shot every single thing that didn't have forced immunity phases, and even a few things that did. Not to mention that she had one of the strongest mobbing builds in the history of BL. The only skills that suffer numerically are two skills in her red tree that didn't get mayhem scaling. That's it. She was so strong that two of her best build were hard-coded out of the game by GBX in an effort to nerf her, and even without those builds she still has several others that can break the game to an absurd degree.
Doesn’t feel that long because we borderline spent 3 years in isolation, I also would have had Troy becoming the actual villain… (I’d have them have an all out sibling war resulting in him killing his sister)
I'm going to try BL3 again for the 6th try. After I instal some needed quality of life mods, a redux mode for mechanics overhaul, and of course the needed dialogue/scene skip "feature". I I think I might be able to push through and beat the story mode. Hopefully I can make it past the Jungle planet this time. 6th time is the charm....hopefully.
I think the only real reason I didn't LOVE BL3 like I did BL2 was because the antagonists weren't great. But it's really hard to live up to handsome jack, he was basically a perfect videogame villain. I really thought the build diversity and gameplay was solid in BL3. It would be awesome to see a game like BL3 with BL2 level story telling and a real true endgame (potentially something that incentivizes people playing together to complete raids)
I didn't care that they were streamers. The way they went about presenting them came off dated humor by the time of release and it was humor from the outside looking in. It came off like a gen x interpretation of streamers/new gen rather than a true example. They completely missed the mark and it showed. They lost who their demographic was and to be fair, borderlands has always had a fine line for their audience. When in doubt, go edgier not vanilla. Edgier can entice both parties (maturity wise) while vanilla can only potentially entice a younger audience
Only issue I had with BL3 was the story mostly the villains and Ava plus them killing Maya who was one of my favorites in BL2. But it is what it is. Excited for BL4.
I just played this since it was free on PSN. I hadn't played the first two, so I was pretty much blind. I only played the campaign, solo, and had Zane as my character. I had mixed feelings. I like the gunplay, but don't like how a lot of weapons feel. I also felt like the variety of weapons was a double-edged sword. Some weapons seemed really underpowered and others completely overtuned. I ended up sticking to a handful of weapons that I liked and only changing them out once enemy levels got too high. It also wore out it's welcome for me. I kept feeling like the game was almost over, but it just kept going. Could be because I struggled in the early game, but it took me around 60 hours. And that was just playing through the main story, only doing like 2 side missions.
I just reeeeaaallllyy don’t care for the writing and characters. Especially how they offed Maya. Ava is terrible…Lilith has more of a crisis after Ava yells at her than she did with Roland dying. Everything else, I didn’t really mind at all. There are some pretty sweet weapons. Pretty interesting class builds
Story was meh but I still don't understand why people care that much about it. Pre-sequal was the only borderlands with an interesting story. The go-fetch & talk to Lilith quests really did drag the game down though, especially early on. Early game has always been a huge weakness for borderlands and I really hope that's something they take effort to improve on for the next title. Also I personally LOVE arms race. It's a great mini condensed experience that lets us really try out different weapons that are often overlooked. I just wish they had given us more arms race maps/loot/bosses.
Because people simply play games for different things rather it'd be its story, gameplay, or both. And saying TPS having the only "interesting story" in the series is a pretty subjective take.
@@BlurXIIII would agree with TPS being the only one with an interesting story. BL2 story built an ok basis but it was TPS that really put spotlight on world building. We had so many new introduction that are still answered to this day
@@BlurXIIIbut it’s true I know you hate to admit it but bl2 only succeeded because of handsome jack. Had they gone with literally anyone else I garentee you’d be singing a whole different tune. I’d even go as far as garentee you’d probably go “borderwhat?”
I feel like removing the story, the only thing you can hate, and it's not an objective thing either, but how they handled legacy characters. Like Maya I feel was treated terribly, but I know a couple people who genuinely really do believe they handled her great. Like objectively the gameplay is the best in the series, the soundtrack is AMAZING, and the quality of life improvements were so nice.
The gameplay feels really good. The weapons are pretty cool. I would buff a couple, however. A couple of the maps are really annoying (Eden 6 in particular). But the thing I hate the most... Typhon DeLeon.
Hear me out, as much as the cut story may have been better I think the story as it is would have been perfectly fine, everyone was always out here complaining about it but I think most of the issue with the story was story adjacent things, talk to lilith, following NPCs around, in BL2 the NPCs never do anything outside of Tina and brick, they tried to tie the NPCs into the story for three but missed the mark a little But pure story wise I think three is stronger than two Two had jack, and jack was funny and charismatic and you where supposed to hate him, but jack carried the story from 2, nothing much else happens in twos story outside of a couple deaths But in three mayas death forces ava to grow up, come to terms with the world and become a better person as she finds the love of a new mentor in tanis and grows to respect lilith, Troy and tyreen are designed to seem inhuman personalities via the influencer angle, but when typhon turns up he flips that and humanised them by being his kids, cracked the image of influencers and showed they where once kids that loved and where loved Purely in terms of writing, threes story is stronger and no one wants to know about it
I believe I have Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition. I was gifted it. I haven’t played it in years and I’m no where near completing it. What DLC am I missing? The different editions confusing me. I thought the Ultimate edition includes everything but there’s a more complete edition that contains everything right? Thanks
Nothing that makes Borderlands 'great' can be carried over into a movie.. besides visual design (*if done properly. It needs to be cell shaded animation, for starters.). The core of what makes Borderlands 'Borderlands' is collecting and shooting cool and interesting guns, and running around different places to collect and shoot more cool and interesting guns. Preferably, with a couple friends. Most people don't play for the cringe millennial humor and ignorable/forgettable writing. But both of those things will, no doubt, be featured prominently in the live action film. I get that Hollywood's desperate for original ip's. Still, not everything adapts, or even should be adapted, to different mediums. It was doomed from the start. Oh man, and don't even get me started on the casting choices...
You 100% can make a great borderlands movie if you have the funds, creative capacity and desire to do so. Everything you mentioned about what makes BL great are things that you can show on screen. You can make the whacky guns a core part of the action, while telling the actual story of the BL universe.
At the end of the day the shitty story is such a small thing, its jsut the mission structure that makes it so unbearable to get through sometimes, follow this, talk to that, press a button for no reason just to progress. It just feels so artificial and unimportant that the story feels like a means to an end. Its a shame because everything else is top tier with the best build diversity with awesome weapons and characters, amazing environments and side areas to explore. i really hope they make BL4 flow better so its not a slog creating a new level 1 character. Rant aside, great video man, agree on basically everything you said!
I believe the villians were great, like I really wanted to to merc these streamers and content creators. I didnt enjoy killing handsome Jack, I wanted him to have redemption arc, so to me BL2 story sucks.
Honestly, as a huge fan of the Franchise, BL3 is easily in last place for me. I just found BL3's end-game to be so boring and insanely easy to become overpowered. It's like, all you have to do is go to Mayhem 11, raid a few vending machines or kill a few enemies, and you're at 85% efficiency. Life talents at end game just make it so you can face tank absolutely everything, no strategy required. I really enjoy Wonderlands despite it's lack of content. The game feels like it truly gives you lots of fun, unique, and viable builds to play with without simply relying on life steal.
i honestly just tune out and enjoy the slaughter(can't spell it without laughter) just picked it up a second time but on my switch, $25 all dlc included, good way to spend some time, rather do that than bs social media.
tbf none of the borderlands games are praised for its story or even remembered by it, its the characters that makes the series memorable. so people talking about borderlands story like its the main attraction of the game is disingenuous. cuz the main hook of the game is the loot and the gunplay, not the story.
When I played Borderlands, I had my focus on gameplay rather than story. It wasn't until my other playthroughs where I paid attention to the lore/story.
Bull. The game has a well-established story that amped up in BL2. A compelling villain. Some characters with actual motivations. Some are shallow, yes. They are just there for spectacle. Axton, Salvatore, and all of the BL3 hunters. Deep lore through story and audio files fleshed out the main characters. BL began as just a looter-shooter, sure, but it morphed into something really big that is story-driven.
Problem is in BL4 the exceptionally awful story/characters is really forced on you. At least in BL1 and 2 the story and dialogue is just fun background noise. Example: in BL2 you could instantly turn in a mission and the dialogue is skipped, so you can just actually PLAY the game instead of standing around waiting for the abysmal cringe dialogue to end
Finding the Calypso twins being streamers as something offensive is severely missing the point where nowadays we have lots of streamers and RUclipsrs etc that focus on political content and alienate masses etc That was the whole point of these characters, not from simple gaming streamers
I think the developers should not have called this Game Borderlands 3. They should have called it like Borderlands "the pre sequel 2.0" or Borderlands "influenced". So we would have had more realistic expectations for this kind of installment of the Borderlands series. Maybe!
I feel you but at the same time I would have felt cheated if it was a sequel to pre-sequel. The pre-sequel is my right under BL2 as far as favorite looter shooters. Still feel cheated that its the conical sequel to BL2 though.
Be Aware console players!!! The game crashes way to much. In close to 30hrs I've not gone more than 3hrs of play without crashing. Its on sale for $30 so I would definitely recommend buying it if you've never played borderlands considering you get 1,2,3,TPS and I believe every DLC with it as well.
It’s a good point that you bring up about missed opportunities for DLC locations. There’s no reason why Bounty of Blood or Hammerlock’s wedding couldn’t have taken place on Athenas or Nekretofeyo with a little bit of tweaking. As it was we got two new smallish boringish “planets” for the DLC and the potentially interesting base game locations were left being not fleshed out or expanded upon. They really passed off an entire planet a single map. Pandora had several large maps and felt much more like Pandora than literally all of BL2 to me. I think the other “planets” we got in BL3 would be more believable as “planets” if they had the same level of investment and attention put into them. Instead they pulled a Starfield before Starfield and just kept adding new planets full of nothing! The Ava DLC used some more of Promethea I suppose. Other than the awful writing, character acting and massacre of returning characters (literally and figuratively), this would be my only other criticism of the game. As a whole it plays really well.
How exactly is a Wild West story supposed to work on Athena’s which is obviously based around shaolin asthetic and themes? I don’t know what cowboy movies you watched or what red dead redemption you played but not a lot of cowboys cared much for that stuff. Necrotefayo is also a dead eridian homeworld that’s only populated because maliwan wanted to find the vault key. There’s literally no reason githean would be there in the first place let alone a whole ho lovecraft inspired village and typhon and Leda are the only ones who know where it is before we come along so how the hell is Dahl let alone Vincent and his wife supposed to discover necrotafayo? Punch in random coordinates and get lucky?

This game is hot garbage. I’m not one of those that will mute the dialogue because I like story. Whether they intended to or not, BL became a story-driven series that pioneered looter-shooters as a selling point. BL3 wrecked it completely. Randy Pitchford’s direction for the series set it ablaze when he punted the game lore in favor of character assassination…literally…and really stupid storytelling. He gave a middle finger to the fans. I hope BL4 crashes as hard as the POS movie.

Are you seriously defending 3's story?
Bruh
@@iluvatarchem You got a problem with that buddy? Huh?
@@DaShikuXI Ah my bad. Didn't realize your IQ is about 85.
I don't really have a problem. I just think you are stupid.
My apologies.
Only issue I had was the abysmal storytelling & almost equally abysmal cast of characters (Returning & New). Otherwise, B3 was great in my view.
Borderlands 2 is my all time favorite
It's my favorite game ever. Very very special.
Dude Arms race was pretty cool. Yes it was challenging, but that's what was good about it lol Especially for farming.
Doesn’t feel that long because we borderline spent 3 years in isolation,
I also would have had Troy becoming the actual villain…
(I’d have them have an all out sibling war resulting in him killing his sister)
I'm going to try BL3 again for the 6th try. After I instal some needed quality of life mods, a redux mode for mechanics overhaul, and of course the needed dialogue/scene skip "feature".
I I think I might be able to push through and beat the story mode. Hopefully I can make it past the Jungle planet this time.
6th time is the charm....hopefully.
Just got the ultimate edition on steam after not playing it in 3yrs
My favorite game of all time
It’s so so solid! By the end of its lifecycle it was better for sure!
Same
how??? lol
I’m willing to bet you you had no idea that 9 days after your video they would announce borderlands 4.
Crazy cool shit !!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤😮😮😮
The gameplay feels really good. The weapons are pretty cool. I would buff a couple, however. A couple of the maps are really annoying (Eden 6 in particular). But the thing I hate the most... Typhon DeLeon.
Now now borderlands three is five years old but Covid also happened and that wiped out at least three of those years
Don't care about plot or storylines, I just want 2 shoot things and loot every corner of the map lol in single player campaign now days
Game is great, but too much useless yapping from the NPC which kinda ruins the first playthrough for me.
This game runs a dream on oled steam deck mid settings with fixed 45fps and 90hz refresh rate . 👌
Hear me out, as much as the cut story may have been better I think the story as it is would have been perfectly fine, everyone was always out here complaining about it but I think most of the issue with the story was story adjacent things, talk to lilith, following NPCs around, in BL2 the NPCs never do anything outside of Tina and brick, they tried to tie the NPCs into the story for three but missed the mark a little
But pure story wise I think three is stronger than two
Two had jack, and jack was funny and charismatic and you where supposed to hate him, but jack carried the story from 2, nothing much else happens in twos story outside of a couple deaths
But in three mayas death forces ava to grow up, come to terms with the world and become a better person as she finds the love of a new mentor in tanis and grows to respect lilith, Troy and tyreen are designed to seem inhuman personalities via the influencer angle, but when typhon turns up he flips that and humanised them by being his kids, cracked the image of influencers and showed they where once kids that loved and where loved
Purely in terms of writing, threes story is stronger and no one wants to know about it
bird man do this with wonderlands
the game became alot better with all the dlc they added but its still kinda mid
I believe I have Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition. I was gifted it. I haven’t played it in years and I’m no where near completing it. What DLC am I missing? The different editions confusing me. I thought the Ultimate edition includes everything but there’s a more complete edition that contains everything right? Thanks
Ultimate has everything I believe
Bad main story, good DLC stories, great gameplay.
I think the main story was better in 3 than 2, Jack was great but he was really the only interesting thing to happen to bl2
I believe the villians were great, like I really wanted to to merc these streamers and content creators. I didnt enjoy killing handsome Jack, I wanted him to have redemption arc, so to me BL2 story sucks.
What’s the best skill tree to spec into for Zane? I don’t have his 4th skill tree because I don’t have the DLC
Love borderland games played since borderlands 1 but god damn i feel like i SUCK at making builds in these games 😂
Should I buy this with the Black Friday deals going on ? I loved bl 1/2 and the pre sequel
i honestly just tune out and enjoy the slaughter(can't spell it without laughter)
just picked it up a second time but on my switch, $25 all dlc included, good way to spend some time, rather do that than bs social media.
persoanlly i dont really care about the story ,its the loot i want
The last character I really liked was the Necromancer. I just don't like the BL 3 Charakters and the BL4 Characters are looking bad too.
tbf none of the borderlands games are praised for its story or even remembered by it, its the characters that makes the series memorable. so people talking about borderlands story like its the main attraction of the game is disingenuous. cuz the main hook of the game is the loot and the gunplay, not the story.
This comment is false. You obviously have never played Borderlands 2. BL2 had a great gameplay loop and a great story.
At least we had strong female characters in the game though. That's really what matters in a looter shooter
You sound like someone that’s never had a good interaction with a woman because of shit like this
Very fair, thank you
Finding the Calypso twins being streamers as something offensive is severely missing the point where nowadays we have lots of streamers and RUclipsrs etc that focus on political content and alienate masses etc
That was the whole point of these characters, not from simple gaming streamers
Dived =Dove
I think the developers should not have called this Game Borderlands 3. They should have called it like Borderlands "the pre sequel 2.0" or Borderlands "influenced". So we would have had more realistic expectations for this kind of installment of the Borderlands series. Maybe!
What are you even saying homie 😂
@@Byrdman strange things. xD
I feel you but at the same time I would have felt cheated if it was a sequel to pre-sequel.
The pre-sequel is my right under BL2 as far as favorite looter shooters.
Still feel cheated that its the conical sequel to BL2 though.
I have no plans to watch the BL movie. I don't need more negative thoughts because of a movie they decided to completely botch.
The movie was Fyee personal opinion
I like this game, but I would have loved it if it wasn't buggy af on ps4, and ui is slower than shit.
Just... I hope you understand that the vast majority of gamers are NOT content creators lol
The only complaint I had was the class. All but one sucked to play.
Time does not exist it is only a comcept and time really does not exist imo
Wait 50 years and back to inform us how'd that worked for you😂
Dam 5yrs since the disappointment bruh
No borderlands had a good story. 2 just had a good villain and that's it. Gamely wise 3 blows 2 out of the water with ease
Streamers and vlogers are kinda annoying though...
Characters sucked. Game was fun.
Maybe it's because you're in that line of work, but I loved what they did with the villains in Borderlands 3.
Huh. Another RUclipsr actually giving bl3 credit. Don’t let hellfire catch you doing this he will take his hatred for this game to his grave like the two haters in your comments. Good job though
Hellfire can only get big views at this point shitting on the game. He let MAK warp his brain and now literally the entire creator community knows to avoid him. Sad because he’s actually a solid creator, but dudes brain is just mush now.
@@Byrdman yeah I don’t know what went through his head to make MAK of all people his mentor. That’s the sad part the dude has talent but to be a good public figure you need to always be fair and impartial which hellfire isn’t but I’m sure that’s just a thing you get as you get older hellfire from what I can tell is still pretty far on the young side.
Idk. MAK, Hellfire, Term, Thicc all decided that toxicity got them better views and have gone that way. Hilarious how when they try to do something normal and positive it does nothing but the second they start hating they pop off
@@Byrdman good news is with the exception of mak and thicc they are all redeemable especially term. I talked with him man to man a few times personally he’s a really cool dude. Can’t do the same thing with hellfire though dudes filled with way to much hate to reason with so I have to leave it up to him. Term though unlike hellfire he doesn’t hate bl3 in fact he genuinely loves it he just prefers the older games. Hell he even hopped back on 3 recently.
Unfortunately I don’t see a way back for Term and I. Dude has flip flopped multiple times with me and always defends guys like Thicc. Hes a great creator when his content isn’t being toxic or when he spews anti “woke” stuff. We had some good times in the past, but dude has to grow up in my eyes. I hope the best for him and hope he eventually realizes he’s in the wrong.
Dude smoke some good good spend some time with Lucy and her 5 sisters or something cause you have so much hate and anger inside of you. I hope you don’t have a child cause I fear for that child’s safety should they dare say they like this game.
Bruh.
Chill. ALL BL games had awful stories and cringe humor. 2 just had a good villain that's all.
@@iluvatarchem facts dudes treating this game like it ruined his life
If guys your age don’t write a script you spend a quarter of your run time saying “like” gratuitously.

Fool shut up. You’re just mad cause your ass is old.
Why would you want part of the game to be dlc? 🙃
