    Hey, from one small(er) historical / geopolitical RUclipsr to another, I really liked the video and just subscribed! Aside from a bit of media interest a few months back, the conflict in the Western Sahara - not even mentioning the history behind it - has largely been overlooked; so, it’s always neat to see it get some coverage that merges both aspects.

    As an Austrian of Moroccan descent, I was very interested in this video and (like your other videos) it turned out great. Let's just hope that this conflict will end on a conference table were both sides can, for lack of a better term, talk out their differences and come to a fair compromise, rather than it ending on the battlefield or as a way for the US to make another conflict "easier" to resolve.

    • @videogames1926

      Here's what i wrote to this dude: "
      Very biased and contains tons of misinformation, although it is informative to some extent! I invite to retake a look at what you had said, and more importantly to visit Morocco's western Sahara and see the repression you're talking about! Spolier alert: There's none!
      And those who were in Guerguarat are militants using children and women and performo a blockade against Moroccan trucks carrying goods to Mauritania, according to the UN general secretary Antonio Goterres, and you can read the Minurso's reports! And you can see that the region with the highest percentage of voting in Morocco's last election was WS!
      There had never been a nation called SADR or Western Sahara! It had all been Morocco's territory before the Spanish took it in 1884, and the International court of Justice ruled that there were indeed legal ties between WS and the Sultan of Morocco, but it doesn't amount to Sovereignty since, there's no sovereignty without people's support! And Morocco didn't wait for WS to get independent then annex it, that's a big cap! I dunno where did you get that from! The formation of Polisario was 1973 by Moroccans like El figuigui(which means belong to Figuig, a town in the northeast Morocco) until some of them started having a will to get independent! And the formation of SADR or the independence of SADR is in 1976, while Morocco started annexation of its former territory (western Sahara) in 1975 with the green March!
      And since you're an Arab you should know that the word Sahrawi means belong to the desert, so in fact even the term they use to differentiate themselves from Moroccans is vague! "

    The moroccans did not try and open a road to Mauritania, the road already existed, and it wasn’t blocked by civilians as you said, but it was blocked by Polisario Militants who came from Tinduf, Algeria and illegaly blocked a civilan commercial road.
    Another mistake is Morocco didnt wait for Spain to leave in order to try and decolonize the Sahara. The region was added as a territory awaiting decolonization by request of Morocco in 1963.
    Morocco also waged war against Spain AND France in 1958-59 in order to decolonize it, but lost the war.
    Another mistake: In 1982 Morocco controled all the big cities of WS, including Dakhla, not just the area you showed. The area you showed was the one protected by the first wall, not the one only one that was controled by Morocco, who also controled cities outside the wall.
    You conveniently didnt talk about the role of Algeria in this conflict, the country that essentially controls the polisario as a pawn in its regional conflict with Morocco.
    You’re obviously pro-polisario (or rather anti-moroccan) and Im sorry to say there are at least 5-6 big factual mistakes in your video.
    As a Sahrawi, I’m very proud to belong to the country of Morocco. This week, more than 70% of sahrawis participatd in the regional and legislative elections. Sahrawis in Tindouf never voted for a polisario leader since 1973.
    Potential great video ruined by bias. Too bad

    • @zzeegermantube
      @zzeegermantube 2 года назад +2

      Since 1973 the Saharawis didn't have the opportunity to vote for Polisario leaders. The only reason why Morocco would object to independence as an option in a referendum would be because they're scared of loosing it. They could have and should have simply pushed for a referendum back in 1975, with the option of a) independence, b) becoming part of Morocco, c) becoming part of Algeria, d) becoming part of Mauritania or e) spliting/dividing Western Sahara between those countries.

Algerian government, some hippie activists and some uneducated westerners overlook what the people in Sahara real feel and claim because all they see is those polisario militia who claim to be "the real people"... 1) This video failed to mention that ties existed between Morocco and the desert tribes, according to the court. The video shows a document that was cut to comply with the RUclipsr's bias.
    2) Speaking of the right to self-determination, a court composed of colonial powers who spent decades (sometimes centuries) stealing African countries' resources won't offer such right to the people of Catalonia in Spain after the majority voted for independence.
    3) On purpose, colonial powers wanted to leave such conflicts to make it hard for African countries to focus on economic growth. Please read about the Rwandan genocide. It's a perfect example.
    4) A Sahrawi is not an ethnic group. It's an Arabic word that means someone who lives in the desert. If a Sahrawi state should exist, it must span across all the African desert (that includes parts of all North African countries) as well as the Gulf countries.
    5) you mentioned Berbers when speaking about the composition of the so-called Sahrawis. The Polisario front is a racist group, especially towards anything Berber or "Amazigh". Countless videos show how they despise the Amazigh people, and they call them "chli7at".
    6) The country Polisario wants to make is a pure "Arab" country. "Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic". There's no recognition of the Amazigh component in there, and as I mentioned, there are countless videos of these people insulting the real indigenous people of North Africa, including its desert, the Amazigh.
    7) Morocco is a welcoming country; Arabs and Amazigh lived in peace for centuries.
    8) The USA didn't turn its back on "Sahrawis". The US always supported the autonomy plan suggested by Morocco. Obama, Clinton, and Bush were always for the Moroccan plan. "The United States has made clear that Morocco's autonomy plan is serious, realistic, and credible, and that it represents a potential approach that could satisfy the aspirations of the people in Western Sahara to run their own affairs in peace and dignity". Trump just took a little step forward. obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2013/11/22/joint-statement-united-states-america-and-kingdom-morocco
    9) Morocco and Isreal always had good ties. Moreover, almost 1 million Moroccan Jews live today in Israel. Morocco still supports a two-state solution, Israel and Palestine.
    10) Polisario no longer has access to the sea. In November 2020, Morocco pushed the sand wall to the Mauritanian border after Polisario members closed the road between Morocco and Mauritania; they were not peaceful protesters.
    11) What you call freed territories are buffer zones full of mines that morocco left on purpose to destroy any Polisario member that shows up. Pushing the buffer zone to Algerian borders might trigger a war with Algeria, and that's a scenario Morocco is trying to avoid because Moroccans and Algerians remain brothers, and we share a lot in common.
    12) Without the help of Algeria who spent more than 500 billion dollars on Polisario, the latter will disappear. They pay Polisario salaries and buy them weapons and host their members within its territory. It's like a county within another country. Algerian officials, "a military junta", think Algeria will only become a regional power by weakening Morocco. They also have a deep desire for access to the Atlantic, and they can only achieve that by endorsing the independence of the "Sahrawi State" and make it their puppet state to isolate Morocco.
    13) countless Polisario members have returned to Morocco and they participate today in Moroccan elections. Morocco also has turned that desert into a prosperous area.
    14) Try to do some research before making biased videos like this one. This video got a dislike.

      @jorgeh.r9879 2 года назад +12

      1) Morrocco has more ties to Algeria, however we dont't see them reclaiming Algeria.
      2) The Catalonia issue is completely different to the one in the WS, because:
      -There are no human rights violations in Catalonia.
      -The Catalan language and culture is promoted and protected in Spain, and this is paid with tax money from all Spaniards.
      - Catalonia has been a part of Spain since Spain was created, over 500 years ago.
      -Catalans are free to express their ideas about independence without fear from reprisals by the Spanish goverment.
      -Catalans are Spanish citizens with equal rights and responsibilities to the rest of Spaniards.
      -The result of the 2017 independence referendum was not applied because it was an unconstitutional, illegal, poorly organized and unprepeared referendum that did not follow international standards (people voting more than once, not enough time for everyone to vote, etc). Many Catalan politicinas themselves acknowledged it was merely a symbolic act.
      However, I do agree a binding referendum should be held in Catalonia as soon as possible to the issue can be solved once and for all.
      3) What you said here is just stupid. European countries have already expressed their regret on colonisation, an each year they donate large quantities of money for development in many African countries (including Morrocco).
      4) That meaning only exists in the Arabic language. In English, the Sahrawi are the people inhabiting the WS, so I'm afraid beace brocess used the correct meaning here.
      5) Although I find this hard to believe, I'm not gonna deny it's truebecause I'm not a 100% expert on the Polisario's policy on the Amazigh. However, I'm gonna need some proof.
      6) Again, I'm gonna need proof for this. I find it hard to belive since the WS is already an Arab region (with a little Berber influence), not Berbers hav lived there for centuries ever since they were Arabized when thei intermarried with the invading Arabs during the Arab expansions in the Middle Ages. It's difficult to imagine much racism against Berbers in a country with no Amazigh.
      7) This is, in general, true.
      8) This is also true. Still, shame on the US.
      9) Morrocco and Israel have had a pretty good history of not getting along that much.
      11) Morrocco and Algeria actually have pretty bad relations. And those freed terriotries are Polisario controlled and Sahrawi inhabited areas.
      12) What you said here is mostly just absurd.
      13) The first part is true. The scond one is not. The WS is now an unstable and politically tense region.
      14) It's not at all biased.

  • @eternalm3859
    @eternalm3859 3 года назад +27

    The US recognition does not affect the political process at the UN, and it's not very contradictory to the solution of autonomy within Moroccan sovereignty, which the UN considered as credible and realistic.

    • @beacebrocess
      @beacebrocess  3 года назад +8

      It’s contradictory in one important way, in that whatever decision that is made on Western Sahara ought to be done w a referendum and the consent of the ppl living there. This also means that independence should be an option in such a referendum. If you think Morocco is such a great country and that you have treated the Saharawi in WS well then I don’t see why you would be against a referendum. The parallels to the I/P conflict are fascinating and it's great they you managed to touch the more recent events such as the Abraham accords and Algeria cutting ties with Morocco. One thing I will say, is that while the Abraham Accords did escalate the conflict in wester Sahara, they didn't make the I/P more violent and certainly aren't the cause of the recent escalations in Gaza. I doubt they had any affect at all in that regard aside from stopping annexation. The conflict has been in pretty much the same situation since the end of the 2013-2014 negotiations.

      @@fenecchilango918 NO mate! It's like you are arguing about Berlin after the end of WWII. You tell me Berlin is Soviet and I tell you it's also American, British and French, but the end of the day Berlin is historically German. Diocesis Hispaniarum was not SPANISH. It was a Roman COLONY that put Morocco and Spain together as an entity. The Romans also put Algeria, Tunisia and Libya under one entity called Diocese of Africa. The Modern European colonisation did the opposite: divide the divided. Morocco was divided and you can easily prove it: Tangiers as an international city Spain took the north and the south plus Ifni city. France took the middle and even the Germans wanted their cake in Morocco ( see Agadir crisis) but the French gave them Congo 😁 😁😁

      @@tarrasteno ok lets rephrase your comment
      You said "Morocco is an old country and western Sahara is his territory"
      Therefore I can say "Spain is an old country and Morocco is his territory" or even say "Italy is an old country and Morocco is his territory" and I would be saying the truth cause Morocco was part of Diocesis Hispanium which was part of the Roman Empire.
      So let me ask you something, does that means that if a Moroccan wants to have its own country shouldn't have it just because it was part of another empire before?
      Also if you want to say "Berlin is German and not American, french, british or soviet" then you should know that that comparison wouldn't apply to the Western Sahara since ICJ said "The materials and information presented to it [the ICJ] do not establish any tie of territorial sovereignty between the territory of Western Sahara and the Kingdom of Morocco or the Mauritanian entity." Therefore is clear Western Sahara is not Spanish, nor Mauritanian, nor Moroccan.

      @@fenecchilango918 Spain was a Roman colony and Morocco wasn't part of Spain. The Romans colonized Morocco and Spain and put them together. How is that difficult to understand. Do u know what '' Diocesis'' mean? it means '' a group of provinces". It's like Russian '' OBLAST''. Spain under Moroccan Almoravid / Almohad dynasty doesn't mean Spain is Moroccan. It only means Spain was a Moroccan colony. Now, if Western Sahara was a country ( just next to Morocco that had so many wars with the African Empires such Mali empire and Songhai empire and had even a slave army called Bukhari army), please Enlighten us what was the name of such a western sahara country and who were its leaders and their wars with Morocco or neighbours ! You don't need to be smart to understand,that Western Sahara is a colonial creation. It's appearance has to do with Spain reaching Africa and its wars with Morocco
