Thanks man I used a different shift knob but your instructions were still pretty clear and understandable super easy to follow keep up the great work !
Great tutorial, I have a 04 Eclipse GTS and I looked for months for a manual but could never find one I eventually had to settle for an auto for which I’ve never been a fan of but it had the his her shifter so I can still choose gears. I want to change out the shift knob and now I know how to great video man.
I know this video is 2 years old but thank god for making it I being looking for a video like this for the past hrs lol 😂 this video help me a lot thank you my guy 🔥now I know how to use install it
went looking for a video to help me put this on for a birthday gift to my boyfriend and this seems so clear and helpful, i'll be back in august to let you know how well it goes lol
i know absolutely nothing about cars. but im looking to buy one right now. and i was thinking of buying an older car and doing some mods on it. (i cant drive manual) this is by far the simplest video ive come across on my search. thank u
Good video, short and to the point. However I would have attached that adapter further down and slid the boot over it, hiding the set screw and lowering the knob a bit 🤙
i have a 2007 volvo s40 and i’m not sure if i can do any of this but i bought everything, it was around $80 with a different shift knob and a boot to put around the new shifter as well, i’ll update when i get everything
Nope, never experienced that issue. You have to use more force to push down than what the knob weighs and I even had one of the heaviest knobs they sell on the adapter.
This is a very helpful video but i have a 91 accord automatic. and the shifter knob has a sports mode button on it. I’m wondering how i bypass that while trying to put a manual shifter on
I’m a year late but I was wondering if the Auto adapter was purchased separately from the knob? I’m looking at the same knob and I see there’s a Auto adapter option and it’s more so I was wondering if they come together or it has to be purchased separately? Amazing tutorial by the way!
I ordered both at the same time from SickSpeed but they weren’t together like a “kit” or anything. I just found a knob I liked that had the same size threads as their adapter.
The size is only relative to the shift adapter and the knob that goes on it. Car doesn’t matter. Just if you get a adapter one size make sure the knob is that same size.
Can I use a Wearelike wise shifter? I asked them and they said those shifters are not meant for my car but this video clearly shows manual shifters can be placed on an automatic
As long as you get an adapter that has the thread sizes they have for their shifters. Pretty much any manual shifter knob can be used in an automatic now.
Thank you for video. I've been thinking about replacing my shift lever and the button issue was really throwing me. My car has a trigger type and I was emailing a seller and they said theirs was a push down and I assumed it wouldn't work. Now I can get the knob I want.
Use this link - www.sickspeed.com/products/black-adapter-convertor-for-auto-automatic-gear-shifter-lever-selector-a I guess the Amazon seller changed their item or description recently. I will fix the link in the description once I’m at my computer.
The best way to look is pry up your current boot/shift knob cover and see if it’s the same type of mechanism that you push down to release the shift lock. Most likely it is.
I have a 2016 cruze and i pulled the leather up but when i put it in N and pull up it won’t come off. is there something else or a different gear it has to be in?
Check the front side of the gear shift there might be a screw already in yours holding it in. If no screws it might just be really stuck on there. Mine was very hard to pull off the first time I basically smacked myself in the face pulling haha.
Sooo the little collar piece on the end of the boot…I have a 2019 civic so that piece is like square. Do you recommend a size to swap that piece out with to make it sit flush with the adapter?
The adapter isn't specific to the car its only specific to the knob you get. Either of the adapters will work just make sure you get the same size knob threads as adapter threads and you'll be good.
whole different process for getting your shift knob off. won’t be fun and odds are you will not only destroy your stock shift knob, but you will also destroy your boot trim. not to mention most automatic/manual shift knobs for volkswagens are different. good luck
You got the same Floor mats that I have. My question is, can you install it without the adapter? Does the shift lock have to be used or can you have it pressed in permanantly?
I have a Ford Fiesta 2019 SE and it doesn’t have a boot. Do you still think I can install a aftermarket shift? It has the PRNS next to the shift. Since it is only 3 years old, I feel like removing it will be tricky because of all the tech
Not too sure on that one, check some Fiesta specific forums/threads on Facebook or Google if you can. I’m not too familiar with the shifter on that car.
Just ordered one yesterday. Is there a way to cover the adaptor with my shift boot? Or at least a way to make it look a little flush & not just sitting loose?
Update: It works great except one small problem, even when I put my car in park and it registers it’s in park, I still can take my keys out the ignition without taking off the adapter and then putting it back on. I can put the key in and start the car and drive no problem but once I put the car back in park I can’t take the keys out.
I have a 2016 Mazda 6 that I want to put an aftermarket knob on from Mr Grip…what’s the little piece you put on beneath the adapter to secure it? Did that come from sickspeed?
If your shifter doesn’t have a button to release the lock then you probably don’t need the adapter. You can most likely just unscrew your current shift knob and then screw a new one on. I would check a forum specific to your car though to make sure.
Based on what I’m seeing on Google it looks like it should just come up with a lot of force. Make sure the car is in neutral and really tug straight upwards. Be careful though the first time I did it I almost smashed myself in the face with the knob because I was pulling so hard.
Man i should have got another brand.. i got one for my 2018 civic and now i have to buy a bottom sleeve adapter so the plastic trim under my oem shift knob doesmt look weird cus its square.. i ourchased this one cus it was shorter but should have seen that theres others.
When I go to buy the knob it gives me the auto adapter option when I go to the sizes and I don’t know if that comes the adapter too because the price goes up
Dude, that was the simplest, most clearly stated explanation out there. Great job!!
Thank you I really appreciate that!!
I hope it helps me I appreciate you buddy😊

Absolutely agree 👌🏻
Thanks man I used a different shift knob but your instructions were still pretty clear and understandable super easy to follow keep up the great work !

You made my day. Now I can install a cue ball knob
just bought this adapter because of you for my 2012 chevy cruz, gonna put a dragon ball knob on it. life saver because idk what to do
Awesome, I was super close to getting a dragon ball too haha!
thought about the Jurassic Park mosquito Amber knob for my Elantra.
i know absolutely nothing about cars. but im looking to buy one right now. and i was thinking of buying an older car and doing some mods on it. (i cant drive manual) this is by far the simplest video ive come across on my search. thank u
Thanks, glad I could help!!
Amazing tutorial, just got my first car which is a Audi A4 and man I can’t wait to switch out the shift knob. Thanks so much bro.
Anytime!
Dropped a sub this helped A LOT, thanks not a lot of people are making videos like this so this brings a little light to my day! Preach man!
Thanks so much!
Good video, clear, concise. Also, dude, your car is clean. Half the videos have dirty cars.
Thanks, I always try to keep my cars clean as when I got them.
Good video, short and to the point. However I would have attached that adapter further down and slid the boot over it, hiding the set screw and lowering the knob a bit 🤙
wait can you do that? i thought it was too high
I have been waiting a vid like this to replace a manual shutter with a audo
What is the thread size on the little screw you got so it didn't spin?
awesome video i was confused as to how the button worked and if i could do this and now i know 💗 thank u :)
Glad I could help!
Thanks so much for this. I was able to install on my 2017 Honda Civic thanks to your guidance.
Glad I could help!
did you use the same adaptor he tagged by chance?? where did you get yours?
Best video I’ve seen by far on this
Thank you!!😄
You didn’t warn me I had to use all my strength to get the gear shift off 🤣 I struggled forever today
Thanks, been looking a way to use a katana shift knob on automatic with button.
Can you also get a boot retainer? Like the ones with the lip that way your boot isn’t just Willy nilly
What happens if your shifter doesn’t press down?? But the little piece needs to be pulled up??? What do I use for that to pull up?
That is maaaad sick!!!!, never thought of that🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 im loving the channel!!!
Thank you, I’m glad you like it!!
Yeah bro that like crystal clear u explained it well
Thanks, glad I could help!
amazing video. Thank you for posting the tutorial and providing links.

Thanks, glad I could help!
What about corrugated/bumpy roads will gravity push the shifter and change gears ?
Nope, never experienced that issue. You have to use more force to push down than what the knob weighs and I even had one of the heaviest knobs they sell on the adapter.
any idea how to make this work if the plastic part inside lifts up instead of pushing down? 2010 VW jetta sportwagen
This is a very helpful video but i have a 91 accord automatic. and the shifter knob has a sports mode button on it. I’m wondering how i bypass that while trying to put a manual shifter on
Wow this video thooo✨ is exactly what I needed!!! Thank you👍🏽

16x1.5 adapter or 12x1.25 and what about shift knob ? 16x1.5
Best explanation out there!
Glad it was helpful!
What about a 2019 Subaru Forester would it be a similar process?
do you know what size bolt you used? mines wiggling around
This was exactly what I needed, and I have the same shifter thank you
No problem, glad I could help!
The piece of plastic pulls up instead of pushing down, any advice?
You may need another type of adapter then. Unfortunately I’m not too familiar with those ones.
it will still work. mine pulls upwards but once you take it off it will shift freely
how do you check what size your car uses, because i know there are different sizes, how do i check on my car which size it is
The size is only relative to the shift adapter and the knob that goes on it. Car doesn’t matter. Just if you get a adapter one size make sure the knob is that same size.
Hello! I have a Honda Civic 2021 Hatchback, I was wondering if that same adapter works? Could you help me out! :)
has it ever shifted to another gear by accident going over a big bump or something...
Nope, it stays locked in until you press the shifter down completely.
Any idea if you can just buy the adapter somewhere? I’m wanting the sparco knob on my automatic
You can buy just the adapter from SickSpeed, no knob.
Can I use a Wearelike wise shifter? I asked them and they said those shifters are not meant for my car but this video clearly shows manual shifters can be placed on an automatic
As long as you get an adapter that has the thread sizes they have for their shifters. Pretty much any manual shifter knob can be used in an automatic now.

can i do this on my 2014 ford focus? and if i can what sizes should i look at?
Most likely yeah, the 12x1.25 is the most common size it seems.
this is how all automatic should come standard
this video 10/10
Thank you!!
my 06 mustang has a second overdrive button on the other side of the knob, can i still do this mod? if so how would i maintain functionality?
Hey man a bit late but would you think it would work on my 2001 BMW compact
Does the adapter work for every car because the link he put it’s for a Chevy Malibu🤷🏽♂️
Use this link - www.sickspeed.com/products/black-adapter-convertor-for-auto-automatic-gear-shifter-lever-selector-a
I guess the Amazon seller changed their item or description recently. I will fix the link in the description once I’m at my computer.
Does this apply to every car? I have an Audi A4 quattro premium and I wanna do this. Been looking into it but can’t seem to have any leads
The best way to look is pry up your current boot/shift knob cover and see if it’s the same type of mechanism that you push down to release the shift lock. Most likely it is.
Can I do this with a 2005 mustang gt?

What size should get for a Honda Civic 2012
Not sure, you might try emailing them.
How do you know what adapter to Get. Ive got a 2019 Veloster 1.6 LT

Hey my shifter on my 08 VW Jetta is the exact same. Is that adapter all I need to press down to change gears? Would this work on a 08 Jetta?
Yeah that should be it.

i can’t find a shift knob with the plus and minus buttons for my chevy malibu 2019, any help?
what do u do if the sheath was the right size but not the right length
hey! great video! what size knob and adapter did you use in this video?
12x1.25
I have a 2016 Mazda 6 that I want to put an aftermarket knob on from Mr Grip…what’s the little piece you put on beneath the adapter to secure it? Did that come from sickspeed?
Yes, that sheath came from SickSpeed and it helps the adapter fit your shifter post better so it’s snug and doesn’t wobble.
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Of course!
W video. Keep up the content man!
Thanks! Will do!
Great video my friend!!!!
Thanks for the support!
W video bro probably the most well explain vid deffo got a like and sub
Thank you, I really appreciate the support!
do you know what that thread size is for the screw that holds the shifter in place? My adapter moves freely left and right as well
Thanks a lot buddy, was very helpful 👍 ❤
Anytime!
how do i know which adapter to get? there is 2 different thread sizes
The threads only matter between the adapter and the knob. Doesn’t matter what adapter you get just make sure you get the same size for the knob.
Does this fit/work with an Automatic 2017 Hyundai Elantra Se? if not, do you have any recommendations as to what might work?
How do I do this but keep my over drive button? Can I re wire it?
Could I do this with my 2017 mini cooper seven edition? Really hate the led shift knob, want something cooler
If it has a button you squeeze or push to change between the gears then yes, you should be able to use this.
Do you know if my shifter doesn't have a button do I still need the conversion kit
If your shifter doesn’t have a button to release the lock then you probably don’t need the adapter. You can most likely just unscrew your current shift knob and then screw a new one on. I would check a forum specific to your car though to make sure.
How can you know if you get the right adapter size? I been looking for what size is mine but I can’t seem to find one. 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
2017 Kia Soul. I can’t seem to get the knob removed no matter how hard I pull. Any tips?
Based on what I’m seeing on Google it looks like it should just come up with a lot of force. Make sure the car is in neutral and really tug straight upwards. Be careful though the first time I did it I almost smashed myself in the face with the knob because I was pulling so hard.
Yow dude, how about an automatic nissan almera/versa, with an overdrive button on the shift knob?
I wouldn’t mess with it if it has an over drive button. There are usually wires attached to those and removing the knob will rip them out.
That's actually a good video. Thanks man!
Thanks I really appreciate that!!
can i change accord cl9 knob with this one plz advise and my car is right hand drive
Man i should have got another brand.. i got one for my 2018 civic and now i have to buy a bottom sleeve adapter so the plastic trim under my oem shift knob doesmt look weird cus its square.. i ourchased this one cus it was shorter but should have seen that theres others.
When I go to buy the knob it gives me the auto adapter option when I go to the sizes and I don’t know if that comes the adapter too because the price goes up
Will this work on any automatic car? I have a 03 Corolla S
Most likely yes, as long as your shifter works the same way under the knob.
Great idea
Subscribed excellent explanation
Thanks, I really appreciate that!
When I press on the link I don’t see the kit I just see the adapter so does the other black peices come with it?
Yes, those pieces are included with the adapter.
Gonna buy the safe thing but in purple
Nice!!
Super jealous of your t shirt
Haha thanks!!
Hey my man love the vid , but do you know what size screw did you use cuz I have a bucket of screws and none are grabbing
Sorry I don’t, it was just a random bolt from an earlier project that just happened to still be in my tool chest.
so for my car you have to release the button before you can you can actually shift into park, is there any whey around it?
Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
I need to make the plastic peice that pushes down longer, any idea how I could do that?
