  • What is an exit strategy, when do we need one, and do we even need one at all? We put our heads together with Bruce & Steven, and our mind amalgamation provided a rich conversation filled with plenty of questions, a few answers, and just an overall good time. A good time that would never touch on anything too personal, or even think about hitting a little too close to home for any of us, in any possible way... Topics of discussion include: Choice produce, popped screens, S&S acquiring Broder, DTF/DTG fulfillment, defining exit plans, choosing whether or not your business makes a profit, life outside of your business, reverse engineering an exit plan, merging shops, succession, divesting, therapy, and burning your business down.

I’m 24 years into this industry and just this year I had to work harder than ever! I have considered selling, simplifying etc. It took several sleepless nights but I had to dig deep and find that motivation again. Your show really helps to motivate me! I chose to raise my prices and increase my customer service. (Add more value) So far, so good.

Congrats on 24 years! Ya know, I probably need to look at raising prices again, especially now during our busy season.

Solid Episode!! Love the crossover with these guys and hearing the depths of business. Very insightful for new business owners to hear the depths of what a beast a printing can be!

Another Monday, and another killer episode! This is a must-have podcast - for a business owner of any type! -
You will learn something important that you can apply to your business, you’ll probably laugh, and maybe just maybe, you’ll even fall in love…
Thanks guys, I was wondering what your take was on that S&S acquisition!

No exit plan set (have a few thoughts of options) at 48 years old and started in 1997. Our industry is a lot of 2nd &3rd generation shops and if you have teenagers now we want them to do more / better in life than this because we know how tough and ever changing this industry has become. Years ago the exit plan was 1 of your kids would continue the business. It also is because having small business is extremely tough now vs the 80’s & 90’s

Yea, Im wondering the exact same thing with my kids. Do I get them involved, or push them to do their own thing...?

I invest all my profit back into my company. Would rather have more equipment to make my life easier. But at same time i don’t have a lot of bills and trying to grow my business to just keep myself busy. I had a good sized screen print and embroidery shop before. Hate having to always need more employees and having to rely on them. So would rather have all the equipment to make work easier with less people. So if i have no profit on books I’m ok with that. But also this is my second go around on building a screen print and embroidery business.

I know Andy has spoke about Monday many times on the show. I am really trying to get organized. Has anyone used a template or have you built it out yourself?

I think customizing to your business works better.Only you know how you work and how you work with your people. We’ve never worked with the Templates completely. We’ve always changed things up.

    • @andyrudman

We built it from scratch and it has evolved over the years. I recommend starting and adding/subtracting until it works. Also, we have episode 185 with @chrismajette from Denial Print, and he shares some of his Monday hacks.
