The Med-Spin came from NYC skater Med Abrous not being able to do 540s. He would spin 180 on one foot and then do a fakie 360 to complete the 540 rotation. Ryan Jacklone and Dave Ortega would make fun of him by calling it a Med-Spin 540.
Brandon Drummond it’s a little foreign at first but I just did your steps and rotated the other way until I felt comfortable. Go out and get it and have fun! Love your channel keep up the great work mate!
I've been meaning to learn all of these haha! Definitely nice skills to have, and I totally didn't realize to use the "bicycle" to transition into one wheel rolls. Makes sense! We have a skate comp coming up July and I need to make up some "filler" tricks, these all seem like a great thing to throw in between of grinds and stuff.
Thanks for this. Finding grinds tough so it's cool to have some other progression options. Bicycle manual no problem, will def have a play around with some of the others. Thanks for posting 👊
thank u sm, this is the first video thats actually helpful, all the other videos are to cringe or they are people acting like they know what they are doing, i wish i had this video when i fist started skating, ive been skating for about 10 yrs now and just figured out how to do a heel roll.
@@BrandonDrummond I think they are pretty decent mate. Tried a bicycle manual on my tri skates last night and apparently that's a trick I didn't realise I could do.
I love the handplant trick. I was trying to find tutorials online and realise there arent many for inline skates only skateboard. Are you able to do a extremely detail tutorial with progression to acheve the final exit of the handplant.? I realise the tough part is the exit into the ramp
I was trying to learn the heel roll yesterday... its so much harder than it looks. Would be great if you could do a tutorial! Keep up the great vids! Love em!
Hey bro love your stuff! Been watching your channel for a few months now, you really inspire me. Ive just started aggressive skating about 6 months ago and have been meaning to post some videos but don't know where to start haha
Those heel rolls are tough. I’m finally getting the hang of doing some quasi crossover‘s skating backwards Like you showed in your other video. I just ski on the main roads and I pick up a lot of garbage so it’s a lot of stuff and go and I do a lot of tricks on curbs and what not. I’ve been doing the fake Med spin kind of like the way you showed just not jumping. it’s definitely Found it under my bed, the last place I expected it to bereally fun to transition,
Yeah I agree. Have skates that fit you make skating much easier and more natural. The first real pair of aggressive skates i had were 3 sizes too big for me and I'm sure it was the reason i struggled with royals and stuff.
Brandon Drummond you’re absolutely correct. I got the Roces Nils Jansons a full size smaller. They were tight for the first few hours but they are breaking in and I have zero heel lift. I feel like I have better control. Manuals are much easier but still need practice.
Your "med spin" is a body shuffle, (sometimes alternatively called a mindchange). Look up Jon Elliott's section in Brain Fear Gone to see it used as an entry to grinds. Super stylish if done right, and it's also a fun little thing to do when jumping into a quarter or bank.
Brandon, Brandon! I'm having a eureka moment right now. That Med-Spin's real name is a *Med-Wind* . Pronounced wind for a clock For years I copied down a Wikipedia page full of aggressive inline tricks. In it there was a med spin and a med wind. The latter was harder to grasp up until you demonstrated it. It is said the Med-Wind is used a lot before inliners lay down their sickest grind, similar to how a skateboarder pushes their board before running and jumping on to it.
Thats a really good idea! I don't see why not. Theyre a little variable per frame etc but I do know the struggle. It always takes WAY longer then I'd like to admit.
Brandon Drummond haha yes coming from a skateboard background I’m like wtf why is this taking so long. I was the dude that messaged u on IG (my other account) I’m getting it tho thank you for your help! Still make the video tho if you need ideas cuz it can only help people. Most of the videos I watched were in one take and no close up shots. So maybe close up along with descriptions? Idk just shooting ideas
I could definitely do a tutorial on the proper med spin! And I'm looking to drop a whole new line late next month so stay tuned ;) Cheers for the idea!
There's a trade off. The better they are for road the worse they are for grinds. Any 60m wheel flat set up will be good enough. Aeon 60s are a good choice. If you can afford to have 2 frames set up you could have any UFS skate set up and just swop frames depending on what you're doing i.e an 80m wheel set up for the road and 60 for the park. The Razor shift boot would be best for that. Its pretty hard to explain but there a bunch of options.
Where I'm from, that bicycle move is called a duck walk. A little practice, and it's pretty easy to do combos like duck to toe to heel (Not really tricks you film for parts, but it's always good for practicing your control. Watch Alex Broskow if you don't thing control is important). I think it's cool to inspire skaters to do more than grinds. I've always enjoyed skating that mixes it up. Cess slides, med spins, wall rides, toe rolls, Phillips 66, ect... I would almost call Brandon's Medspin a Medspin revert or something like that? Oh, and it took me a few minutes, but I just had to find the clip of Chris Haffey doing the best Med spin I've ever seen. It's the very last trick of the video. Enjoy. ruclips.net/video/yiZ5BnLrbVk/видео.html
!00% agree, Idk why people stick to just grinds you're missing out on such a fun part of skating. I like that name too! I was hoping someone would already have a name for it somewhere haha. Daym haffey is crazy! I never noticed it was a med spin before. Cheers for the comment man

Gonna start working on the med spin. The skate plaza in my town is tiny and that'll make my lines more fun.
Just went out yesterday and landed the handplant both ways! Just need the grab and it’s official! Should do more of these

Congrats on the heel roll. Its super hard to figure out.
Keep rolling ✌
I love the way he talks about the tricks. Makes it sound so fun!
Cool video, really nice editing having the examples as soon as you explain it.

Monoroll is also a nice "flat" trick;)
those are damn overlooked and very hard I'd say. Alex Broskow does them all the time with immense speed and control and it always blows me away
Love it! Especially the wheelie-part is helping me a lot! Thanks and good job!

One heel one toe we've always called a duck walk.
“Air walk” here
"Manual" where I'm from. Contrast with "front manny" and "back manny"

Also, for an example of an actual medspin, see Haffey's last trick in his Killer Boots section- medspin 540 over a big stair gap.
Yeah I never realised that was a med spin until now! Haffey is insane!
