    Kinda missing the whole picture regarding the Gear Vendors Over/Under. It is not only a overdrive but also turns a 727 into a six speed. Mount a simple button on the shifter and it allows you to split gears. 1st , 1st over, 2, 2nd over etc. Works great. Put it in my 70 Challenger RT/SE.

    I believe you missed one a833 overdrive transmission that came from mid 70's mopar truck or van. That came with a cast iron main case. I had a van that had one, and now its in my 69 R/T SE.

    John Cope builds 518s and 727s. You can get both with a lock torque converter. He also sells a kit to bolt a 518 to a big block with no cutting of the bell housing.

    One I think most people miss is the GM 4L80E. Its common, you can pick one up from a wrecked truck or van for a few hundred dollars. And then spend around $800 to buy a mcleod performance rebuild kit and a couple of stronger internal parts and that will give you a transmission capable of handling over 800hp for about a 3rd of what most of these aftermarket boxes cost to convert to.

      How much does the adapters cost and the transmission controller cost , I didn't convert to one in my Chevy p/u due to total cost with a rebuilt unit and tranny controll and converter was 5k with me doing the labor for free.

      Can you give me any more information on what it takes to adapt a GM 4L80E to a BB Mopar engine. Thanks

    I really like the gear vendors unit, put it on a short 727 and the length isn't too bad. Nice overview video

    I was hoping there is an updated video. I have a 70 Plymouth RR and I want to replace the 727 with an overdrive gear. I have a 440 so it doesnt like going on the expressway at 80. If someone has any options, I am all ears. Thanks

    Very nicely done and great info. As of late, I have been considering a build of a slant 6 early A-body with at least 300 HP (torque maybe 280 up?) just as a unique challenge. I guess the 4-speed OD (or what some call the 3-speed OD) appears to be a 833 with the < 1:1 4th gear (you covered this here). Any idea what these 3-speed or 4-speed units can handle in terms of torque output?
    What I don't know very well are what manual options could displace a true 3-speed or this 4-speed should I need to go beefier due to torque (Say T-5, T-10, Top Loader although these are not necessarily beefier). This would be bolted to a stock bellhousing for the slant 6 or the strongest I can find.
    I could potentially run an automatic since this will likely see more drag strip use. I guess these automatics were 904's that can be built pretty beefy but assume this is an uncommon bellhousing pattern to other Mopar engines--right? Assuming this is unique have you heard of any available adapters to Mopar V-8 patterns or even GM pattern for say any of these choices? Do note, I'm not really too concerned about overdrive ratios in my questions... Thanks and sorry for all the questions. I couldn't find a definitive source elsewhere.

      Thanks for the questions, I am somewhat familiar with the slant 6 platform. I had a 72 Dart with a slant 6 and automatic for a while, great little engine! There is a company Torq Storm that makes a supercharger lit specifically for the slant 6, which would be the easiest way to make good power out of one. As to the transmission question if you go the 904 route you can eaily build one up to handlecall the power the slant 6 could throw at it. As for the OD 833, I'm not sure what it's limit is, it might be lower than a regular 833 since it has an aluminum case instead of an iron case. You could contact Brewer's Performance and ask them, they are experts when it comes to these 833 transmissions. I do know a friend that had one installed behind a 426 hemi and didn't have any troubles, so it's probably a safe bet you would be ok with one behind a modified slant 6.

    ( I know this isn't mopar) I've got a very rare 1995 F250 with the C6 three speed (no overdrive) I tried to get a E4OD installed but the shop said it would be too much work, requiring the cab to come off. The gear vendors is nice but it seems to be expensive and the lack of locking up the converter still sort of shoots you in the foot. I want to go from 3k to 2k rpm on the highway instead of paying around $4k to get the gear vendor for around 500 rpm. Anybody out there who's dealt with the C6? I'd also like to drop from 3.55 rear gears to 3.08, but it seems they are no longer available for the 10.25 rear ends. It wouldn't be so bad if I could regear the C6 to have third gear be an overdrive or even a lockup converter option but there doesn't seem to be a way to have it any different than 1:1 ratio in third gear with no lockup.

    Any thoughts on the new Tremec TKX 5 speed?
    Looks like a direct bolt in without floor mods or crossmember notching

    Hey boss ! Just got a 67 Camaro with a Muncie M2 (i believe still looking thu all the details. ). My 1 st gear is waaaaay to high (Feels like I’m pulling out of 2nd or 3rd ) The other gears are fine I looked at Gear Vendors but that doesn’t help my situation. If I put in taller gears in the rear that fixes first. But then I lose the ability to dive the highway to whatever degree. Suggestions ?

    • @LifeatSpeed
      @LifeatSpeed  3 года назад

      First congrats on the purchase! That is an awesome uear Camaro! So over the years GM offered several muncie 4 speeds (M20, M21, M22) and various gearsets. Depending on which one you have you might be able to change the gearset, or replace the transmission all together. The ultimate for acceleration and highway cruising unfortunately would be to swap to a 5 speed overdrive from a company like Silver Sport Transmissions, but that conversion will run probably $4,000-$5,000.

      @@LifeatSpeed yea ! That’s a chunk of change. Haha. After spending all my wife’s retirement money on her I need to be cost effective as best I can. She’s a 383 with a holly sniper. Not gonna bag her. But I like to rip out of 1 and 2 once in a while. No racing for me. Thought about gear vendors. But I don’t think that changes my 1 gear to usable. So sounds to me like a trans rebuild (believe it’s the M20) to just get the 1gear bigger. Is the best option or lose some gas mileage and do the rear which is the cheapest option for now.

    • @LifeatSpeed
      @LifeatSpeed  3 года назад

      @@LemonmilkMusic totally understand! The overdrive transmissions get expensive real quick. And you are correct a gear vendor won't solve your issue. Most cost effective options are like you said new gears whether it be in the transmission or rear axle. Or you can also play with the rear tire diameter as well.

    • @LifeatSpeed
      @LifeatSpeed  3 года назад +1

      @@allgasnobrakes4979 with a 318 for best automatic option for the money a 904 will be sufficient and can be readily sourced from local wrecking yards. If you want something more durable than a 904 you can always go wtih a 727. And if you want an overdrive automatic you can go with a 518, but that transmission is a little more involved to install due to the size of the transmission.
