Thank you for the video. I had not known about her before this. A fascinating character, both buoyed and brought down by a wicked childhood she could never escape.
should be a movie about her
This was a great doc. Interesting to hear about lady criminals from other countries beside the US or UK
When you grow up around monsters, when people treat you like a dirty little monster, or in a situation when monsters are normal it’s very hard not to become a monster.
Here we go.
European culture at its best, evil and hate filled people
@@lnteIIigence Australia liberal lol its a country full of white surpremacist its a nation with laws that are centeries older than any europeans got to this country... Australia is backwards if it was a liberal country we would see 100% employment for indigenous peoples of Australia and the land would be returned to the rightful owners.
@@lnteIIigence well we know YOU'RE not a social psychologist
@@Frenchblue8 Hush.
Great channel! Just discovered this threshold of well edited historic + contemporary real crimes!! Thx 4 ur great efforts 2 float us with interesting + high quality movies about crimes down under! Cheers from Berlin, Germland ;-)
IT IS WAYYYY ovr xagerated...truth b bland.
What a horror story! The last epitaph was certainly fitting.
Still find it amazing that a brothel madam was named Tilly Divine, and it was her real name.
Her birth name was Matilda Mary Twiss. 7.26
The reenactments are intrusive and simply not up to the low standards of even Tilly herself.
What a story!
Its hard to have sympathy with Tilly but had she remained in London in the conditions she was brought up in, i doubt shed have survived long.
Prostitutes in those days & in the slum areas of her birth usually died young of alcoholism or disease.
In some way i admire her survival & her determination to climb out of her dreadful life
All she ever knew was violence &
Being used by men; to keep herself surviving she used whatever she could to advance herself into a position of wealth & domination.
Im surprised she stuck with her abusive husband for 30yrs; its odd to have put up with his violence.
A very psychotic personality & i maybe think she'd have clawed her way up wherever she found herself.
What she did was only what any other male underworld gangster did & they still do.
She was ahead of her time really & although her crimes were appalling she did what very few women could ever have done
If she hadnt been the way she was she would have been crushed very early on.
She had to rule by installing fear & violence to control her empire
A facinating woman, nonetheless
Id never heard of her before!
This would make an amazing film based on her real life.
Ive just finished watching a series about life in 18th & early 20th c London & how the poor survived & it was so shocking
Honestly really shocking how people lived in those times
Thank you for this series & in particular this video about
Tilly Devine.
🇬🇧👧
Instant Aussie accent on her arrival!!! 😂😂😂
This is a video of her life, sorry that the cockney accents don't live up to your standards
That's quite an accomplishment...it isn't an easy accent.
Love the actress who plays Tillie!!
I remember serving beers to old fellas late in the 1990’s, who were kids when she died. They used to tell stories about her. Everyone was happy when she died. Apparently no one grieved her death. Around the same time I was living down near Palmer street in East Sydney, where her great grand son owned the terrace we rented. 30+ yrs ago now. She owned most of that area in her day.
If you lived there, you were known, or ignored. only outsider talked.
@@scottleft3672 I don’t know where you lived. I lived in Palmer street East Sydney for 22 years.
@@lisadolan689 I lived in Palmer and Bourke st's in the 80's....up in the tall units on the lane way cornerr and down.near the tradsemans arms when in Palmer...i knew many old Sargents pies workers...lol.
@@lisadolan689 NO-ONE talked much aboutt her wen i lived there......mostly it was about Kate Leigh.
@@scottleft3672 I’ve heard a lot about her as well. I’ve never met anyone who knew her
and the biggest pimp in all of this was the tax man lmfao
WELL THATS HOW THEY MAKE THEIR MONEY...
I have stories of my family 1880s/90s who were as rough as Tillie. Institutionalised from birth from Benevolent Society Asylum, Randwick Home for Destitute Children, Parramatta Reformatory, Darlinghurst Gaol. Working the streets at 13, no parents (Haymarket)
Lynette - Im so sorry! That is just awful. I hope you are doing okay in your life.
@@ursuladre9650 Yes, the family lifted out of this pverty by the 1950s thanks you xxx
Am I the only one who sees an uncanny resemblance between Tilly and this narrating lady, Rae Francis ???
I SAW IT TOO. I WAS WONDERING WAS SHE A RELATIVE, COULD BE TWINS FROM A DIFFERENT TIME...
I'm sorry, but Toni Pearen can't do an English accent to save her life!
Who's the actress that portrays Tilly? She's awesome!!! Lol.
He more than likely was the kindest anyone had ever been to her, until she got to Australia
Walk away...run away ... just get as far away from these people as you can
Wow she scared me going off like that in the beginning. Great acting, made me jump lol😊
Great documentary, the Chicago May of Australia :)
Gr8 doc. This is real life... Just how it goes. Really not much has changed. Probably 2day the girls would have made more off the drugs.....
Stuff society, They bred this into people...Happy birthday for tomorrow Tilly Devine...
I do wonder how many that grew up in Tillys era and surroundings didn't become a "Tilly".
Very very sad.....OMG!
this doco could have been 10mins long if you cut out all the repeat clips...
Wow, this chick beat the fairly recent Griselda Blanco, the first FEMALE Colombian druglord of the 1980s,, to the title. Griseda was ruthless and wouldve liked this woman. Whew
Pork pies, all this.
I Bet she couldn’t fight Bee Smith off Cellblock 😂
Isn’t that Toni from E Street?
He didn't treat her as equal. All her power/respect on the streets didn't matter on THAT side of her front door! If ppl SEEN his abusiveness publicly, it took away from her "boss" imagine & She CULDNT have that! It was like he was her 1 weakness. Bc he dog handled her & she knew he would always have tht upper hand in tht matter.
All of a sudden everyones a forensic expert 🤣
I lived in the area, lots went on,my dad said he was in a theatre where someone attacked another with a razor or blade, maybe 50,s
Speakeasies in London.....thats a new one hahaha
Gisele Maxwell might have been tilley reincarnated.
Australia the country of taxes shuts down so many .
How comes she has an Australia accent when she arrives in Australia? I thought she was from london?
The Great War negatively impacted Australia in so many ways... post war immigration included.
Interesting Phycophath analysis 🤔
Shall I take this to Victorian England
Brutal Phycophathic ways brutalised , brutalities become more brutalities.
These Brutal People made Australian History
Hard times for those in their way.
They cleaned themselves up & went on to rule england.
Lol the reenactments are funny
Black hearted etc etc ...great description...evil personified.
🖤
She's made the big time.
ok good vid but some of the incidents a bit poetic license and contrived
terrible acting .
Bliss from zorba 🇲🇻
Terrible fake Eastenders accent
28:43 His aunt Tilly Devine was a HARDCORE CRIMINAL. Yet her nephew Doctor George Parsons is a respectable, productive citizen. Crazy world.
Reminds me of my ex-wife...............
OK OK wait a sec I get having HOPE and DREAMS....we need them.....cant do without !!! But I cannot understand how soooooooo many people(INDIA?) can and do give birth to multiple children in such squalor
no reliable birth control and a culture where women could not safely say no.
As an English man this woman sounds a complete nightmare our loss was certainly not Australias gain not sort of thing you expect to hear now so definitely wouldn't have many years ago.
Shes cute 🥰
Judge not and You shalt not be judged !
Food for thought ?
Imagine being a man in the 1930s who has to tell people he got mugged by a couple women?!
You can watch the same videos on fb without the stupid ads
We know how women of the past were by the way men described them.
karma in order for tillie
Boring. 6 or 7 so called experts repeating the same thing for the first 15 minutes. Click.
