Today there are tears in my eyes after listening to Ustadji who passed away before I was born. I have only heard about his mastery over alapchari, dhrupad, dhamar and Khayal. Truly one of the greatest singer of his generation. Thank you Amitava Bose.

Many gratitudes and thanks to you for sharing these priceless gems from the great Ustadji Faiyyaz Khan saheb. He was indeed a true pioneer in singing, teaching and aptly glorifying the field of Hindustani Classical Music to its present state of extreme richness. Please keep up the excellent work.

From what I have heard, the last AIR recordings of Ustad Faiyaz Khan were done at AIR Baroda from 1949 onwards when the Ustad was ailing. Sunil Bose was responsible for the recordings. He also served at AIR Lucknow later. I was familiar with the catalogue of AIR Lucknow's archives till the late 1970s. From what I recall there were rather few Faiyaz Khan recordings in it.

Ustad Atta Hussain Khan was the son of the celebrated Agra vocalist and composer Mehboob Khan ‘Daraspiya.’ Ata Hussain’s chief guru was his brother-in-law, the Aftab-e-Mausiqui Faiyyaz Hussain Khan. His association with Faiyyaz Khan ran long and deep. For decades Ata Hussain, then based in Baroda, was the primary accompanist for the Aftab-e- Mausiqui. He later moved to Calcutta. He was a popular teacher and was much sought after. Some of his well-known disciples were Poornima Sen, Ramrao Naik and Swami Vallabhadasa.
