I read somewhere Goggi uses a bow on his bass sometimes too. Can't wait until they figure out how to bow the drum kit!

Alex Paulsen He uses an E-Bow in the song Untitled 6. Also uses a drumstick in Hafsól.

You can use a bow on the cymbals to create a "whining" effecf

I went to the Bonnaroo Festival in 2008 and had an amazing pass that allowed me to go backstage for a bunch of the show. I had to stand in line and wait for the Sigur Rós one, because they only met so many in at a time. He walked past me twice, within like 10 feet of me. I’m still shook.
Also at Bonnaroo that weekend, I was like 5-10 feet away from Glen Hansard from The Frames, and that was another moment of just awe and constantly asking my friend to pinch me to make sure it was real. But I have photos!!

Jonsi and Sigur Rós have been my favorites for a Long time now but I had no idea they had any kind of relation. Am Amazed. "Grow till Tall" and "Ekki Mukk" are life Playlist.
This convinced me to get the pedal. Pretty exciting to be able to download his own custom reverb onto your own pedal.
That is the best of all TonePrints! I just love it! Jonsi should make another one or two or more... PLEASE!

very cool...I had the same idea to have a very curved radius neck and curved bridge to allow bowing individual strings on guitar....I might have to explore this...

Could you tell me the tuning for bowing guitar and what kinda effect is good for??
+Japan Owl You can play bowed guitar in any tuning you like. But if I remember correctly, Jónsi likes to tune his guitar down a whole step to DGCFAD. He also uses drop-tunings for certain songs. But use whatever tuning that feels natural to you :) If you want big cavernous tones like Jónsi you'll of course need a great reverb and delay. That's the two core effects. But again, there's no right or wrong, so throw the effects in there that you like :)

as far i know Jonsi uses strymon reverb,nothing wrong in doing tonrprints.He says I like it,not love it.

No. Cheap is fine. You need good rosin, but it lasts LONG time.
+Jamie Clark I see, thanks. But how many times we have to change the hair in a year? It would be depend on how much I play the bowing guitar tho
Shun If you use it a lot, you might need new hair every year or two (as a cellist, I could replace it once or twice a year, if I play full time). If you get a cheaper bow on amazon, as long as it's wood, it will be fine. And the bow will be cheaper than re-hairing (re-hair can be $75). Get a $30 cello bow and when it stops working (when it starts to run out of hair), get a new one. Just don't LOSE the rosin. If you don't lose it, and you're a guitarist, it will probably last the rest of your career. Apply new rosin whenever it's getting less grippy - if you play guitar with the bow every day, and clean your strings with a cloth after every time, you might need to apply rosin every 2-4 weeks. If you never clean your strings and let the strings stay white (and sticky) you might only put new rosin every 3-6 months.
Actually, I can go months without putting more rosin on my bow for CELLO because I don't clean my strings haha - when I'm about to have a performance, I clean them and apply rosin, though. It's just hardened pine sap, but the more expensive stuff really does make a difference. I like Hill brand rosin, but Pirastro or pretty much anything over $10 is good and will last forever (or until you lose it.)

Not really my friends used 13's for tone playing metal... its sick :) I jsut imagined here you would get better sound with flat wounds and I thought I saw him using them.
Jonsi's playing style doesn't really mean he would struggle using heavy strings.
I remember wanting to know more about his guitar and saw an interview with the tech that built the guitar for him. He said that he uses regular but heavy 12 gauge guitar strings.
I saw that too, but I didn't remember him saying if they were flat wound or regular wound...haha I was even trying to look at them to figure it out,... I jsut looked back at the videos and the tech apprently actually replyed to me :) regular wound and even the g is wound :)

look closely at 0:38. it looks like he has 7 strings... one of which is threaded through the G at the bridge... but goes to the D slot in the nut... and up to the D tuning peg. WTF??

It could be defined as "noise", but, in the band's context works beautifully, in tracks such as "Saeglopur" it really helps to saturate the whole texture. If you're unfamiliar with Sigur Ros' music, I would recommend to give them a chance, awesome band...

Haha I can't even belive this comment. Probably Jónsi don't even care about people playing with his sound in one 80euros pedal, or something.
bob higgs the man is a visionary. He hears something so small in his head and composes an orchestra of textures over each other. There's nothing intermediate about it. Maybe he's not shredding down the neck of the guitar and maybe he can't, but it doesn't change the fact that the sound he's making come out of that guitar brings out a strange feeling in so many people and his sound is undeniably distinct. His sound can't even be explained, and that's what it is to be a visionary.
People like you don't even deserve the gift of having ears lol
