    I received my first guitar from my father when I was about eleven or twelve and took up the five-string banjo 35 years ago. I'm 71 now and have been playing ever since. I was entirely self taught as there was no Internet back then but I only wish that you and your methods were available back then.
    I just wanted to stop and say thank you for what you're doing for those that are just learning how to play the guitar right now, because you're taking years off the learning process for them.
    Thank you very much for taking the time to help others. New (and experienced) guitar players are extremely fortunate to have you and your lessons here on RUclips.

In my humble opinion Erich offers way more value than the other RUclips guitar teachers such as the Marty's, the Andy's or the Justin's. Everybody responds differently to different teaching styles but Erich strikes a chord (!!) with me. I've signed up for his free lessons and I'm astounded at my progress. New here Oct 2019. Been banging on a guitar for 40 years and never got past major and minor chords in open position and would put the guitar away out of frustration. You can just tune your guitar in fourths and play the exact same shape no matter where you are on the neck

    • @beidouvirus3978
      @beidouvirus3978 7 лет назад +3

      Uh no
      ...
      No
      ...
      Don't even think of doing that. Just be disciplined, learn the notes, don't take the easy way. Besides, the B string has that interval because it greatly helps the playing of chords and makes it much easier. That's the exact reason the standard tuning has that interval, to facilitate chords.

    • @christophertoledo968
      @christophertoledo968 7 лет назад

      Manu Perez chords yes. Not scales. Tuning in 4ths is pretty common. Just ask Tom Quayles.

    • @beidouvirus3978
      @beidouvirus3978 7 лет назад +1

      Well I guess if you wanna get used to that tuning, sure, but it's gonna be hard to switch between the two if you're gonna be using scales. When you switch, you'll be visualizing what your used to and not the tuning you're currently using.
      IMO, tho, I recommend learning guitar in standard tuning if you're still at the level that the B string confuses you when playing sales, which is the stage that the original commenter was at when he posted. At that level, don't take shortcuts, and just get past the hurdle. Don't use the all 4th tuning as a crutch. Instead just make it another part of your arsenal when you're already a very capable guitar player

    Why bother giving the thumbs down when someone is taking their time, their skills and their knowledge and giving it to you and me for free to learn? If you don't like it or don't want to watch it, just watch something else. He seems like a pretty cool dude and I have always liked his message at the end of his videos too. I've been playing 27 years but I'll always check out other people's videos to pick up any tips I've missed, and I have to wonder what kind of life you lead when you feel it is necessary to dislike knowledge being shared?

    YGS, I have been only recently stated the “first 30” lessons and YOU, my friend are not only a master, but as I’m 41, you have inspired me to keep trying. I have attempted to take up the guitar several time and get into a rut, and believe I’m not getting anywhere, so give up. Doing the first 30 I feel I’m making progress consistently. If I were to win, would really love to be taking the rest of your lessons. As it would change my life more than it already has. As for the guitar, well I live in Australia, and have purchased an acoustic guitar already, so I would ask that you donate it to a deserving less fortunate person, in the hopes that taking up the guitar would change their life as well. Keep up the great vids an mentoring!

    Great instructional video for beginner level guitar players. I try to stay away from the that pentatonic mode by expanding upon the other notes within the pentatonic scale. Lydian, myxolidian, harmonic minor, diminished forms of scales alternate picking and string skipping techniques. Took me years to achieve that level of playing. Andy James, I don’t know if you’ve heard of him. That guy is phenomenal! Helped me mold my style as a lead player.

    Hi Erich, just to say thanks for my free E book and 30 lesson online course. I have just started to learn guitar at 70 years old and it should be easier with your support and guidance. It will help pass the winter days over here in England. Many thanks!

    Hi, this is really simple but clear video teaching about pentatonic scale I have learned something from this. I wish you could also show the minor pentatonic scale.
    Thanks

    this is also called „string fragment system“ (sfs) by a greek guy called prokopsis. he worked that out with any modes and made a lecture concept out of it. i am not advertising this but give him credit for his effort. you gave a good entrance into this.

    The b and the e string are different bcoz in all the other string like A, D etc. The next note is A# or D# respectively but in B and E.. Next note is C and F respectively.. And that makes the difference of the half step cause the sharp note is naturally skipped

    • @brendanlongmusic3192

      That's what I was thinking but why is the E string not down half a step considering there is no E# either?

    Finally a guitar player/teacher who gets the point! For me (as a jazz pianist) it's always SO frickin confusing to see that so many guitarists just don't know how scales work, or actually how "music" works :-) Thank U so much for the good, understandable video!

    The designers of the six string guitar did everything in fourths except the B string so they could end up with E on the top string. So the second string is a major third then that allows to have another E. Now the world is perfect again. If not the modern guitar would be E A D G C F not
    E A D G B E.

    • @yourguitarsage

      Great explanation

    • @jjvillafanemusic
      @jjvillafanemusic 5 лет назад +21

      The actual reason is that the major 3rd interval between the G and B strings is there to facilitate chord playing. If the guitar was tuned in fourths across all six strings a simple E major open chord would not be possible to play given that the first two strings would be playing a C and an F, literally the two most dissonant notes you could possibly play over an E chord

    • @2kevinthecool
      @2kevinthecool 5 лет назад +3

      Wait....so IF the B string was NOT tuned down, then would the guitar still sound "right"?

    • @pikiwiki
      @pikiwiki 5 лет назад +1

      isn't it the G string that is tuned a half step below?
