My mom is a feminist; she has always been very vocal with her opinions when things felt wrong for her, and she told people off when they treated her as less than a man. She couldn't care less about the new wave "feminism" that seeks to view men as lesser than women. For her feminism is about equality, not "the woman's turn to be an asshole."

I have two beautiful daughters with my Japanese wife of 30 years and several times over the years, I have said to my wife "Wouldn't it be great if our girls married a Japanese man". To my surprise, my wife said " イヤです。” (hell no!) and gave me a whole list of reasons why including the problem of "マザコン" ( Wanting one's wife to be like your Mother, eww!) and most of the problems you also mentioned MeshidaSan (except the banana problem). However, I feel a little sad about her objections as I think a Japanese husband would be great, so long as he is not 亭主関白。 I did go on to ask my wife about a Chinese or Korean husband then? And my wife gave me a look that said I am going to be sleeping on the sofa tonight if I don't shut up. So I shut up.

Very funny intro, Meshida-san. I have always helped my ex girlfriend with the housework despite coming back from work. As an Italian man I like to take care of my own home and my other half. I see in Japanese dramas women are somewhat still seen as traditional homemakers which is what western women were used to be back in the 50'. If my partner wanted to have a career I would take the responsibility to look after the house as long as she doesn't bring animals at home which would make my chores harder to deal with. It's not easy for anyone to have a job and do daily chores and have to look after animals as well. That would be too much for me. I would look after my babies though, just no pets at all. I am a trained chef as well, I don't think I would have any issues finding love again, I have been told by several women I am good marriage material and I think that's the sweetest thing I have ever heard from them :D

really starting to warm up to the analogy of a "real" family xD it's honestly kind of deep and shines a light on how different dysfunctionality affects different types of marriages.
I've always been a good fit in a traditional relationship where I work and my woman takes care of the home. so it was easy to assume it's a superior marriage structure but now that you mention it I guess any kind of marriage can have problems if your not taking care of it!
    great video man

  • @SamuraiKensei276
    @SamuraiKensei276 2 года назад +39

Well, Marriage is like the tomb of love imho, however I agree on something, and it is that men should always support their women not only economically, but even with housework whatever it costs. No matter the struggle, no matter the fatigue, no matter the job responsibilities, we cannot yield. Housework is an amount of sharing life together, as only in death does duty end! If you truly love someone, it is a pleasure not a punishment doing it after all.

@@silverwings8486 12 hours of housework or 6!? What in the world, is that sci-fi? You only need either 1 or 2h, 3h if the size of it is bigger, to clean up an actual house and then you are as free as a dove to spend the rest of your time at your leisure. Come on now, wrist and discipline. To earn more it should not be a derray to avoid an actual life responsibility... P.S. do you just realize yourself that, with two people on the same task, the time get reduced to half...?

    • @silverwings8486
      @silverwings8486 2 года назад +4

@@SamuraiKensei276 Lol 🤣 let me ask so what your role IMAO if husband is prime earner than what are you a slack off it,s even funny since you yourself said 1-2 hour & 3 hour if bigger.
Do you understand these can be considered a form of slavery as well.
Either you play that role or this.
This is dynamic of husband & wife relationship.
If he was meant to do it all let's say housewife as well why bother to even take a 3 party in his life ??
I don,t think you can respect a husband who didn't earn enough to take care of his family & husband can,t respect wife who can,t take care of his home.
That,s kind of symbiotic relationship it is ☕
So fundamentally what you trying to imply is pretty dumb if it,s about spend time in form of housework than it,s better that you better ask him out & hire maid occassionally.
Otherwise what you trying to imply do my job & your job & than i love you.
You know that the kind of people who did that are *pushover*.
Respect is earned & it,s through your action.
& While i am aware that now a days trend is double earner don,t forget. Depending on his job or time.
There is room or energy in it,s truest ☕
Well have fun & don,t bother me 👍

  • @yasua0611

Hahaha meshida-san this was another funny video from you! 😂 A big cultural change needs to happen in Japan to encourage both husbands and wives with the old traditional view of their partners to leave that behind and focus on what a real loving marriage is with their husbands/wives. I've been living in various parts of Japan for over 24 years now and i've met couples from both of the extreme ends of the spectrums. Contrary to popular belief, a lot of normal japanese husbands are pretty much like western husbands strictly in the sense that they see their partner as an actual partner instead of a housemaid and they frequently have sex and nothing more, but this was what I usually saw from smaller cities or less big prefectures of Japan. They tend to be a bit more relaxed from work and focuses a lot of time on their family and social life. Tokyo is probably the only place where I saw a staggering significant amount of sexless marriages and husbands who could care less about their wives. But that doesn't mean that's true for every japanese husband in Tokyo, as much as I saw those type of men, I also met committed and affectionate japanese husbands in that same city itself. I've come under the conclusion that a lot of modern problems regarding japan are more often than not, i'd like to call, Tokyo exclusive, what I mean by that is those problems are just more rampant in Tokyo itself and less prevalent and less applicable in other parts of Japan. That's why I dislike Tokyo compared to my hometown here in Sendai, Miyagi because my neighbors and friends are more socially available and not a slave to their careers. As far as I know sexlessness here in Miyagi isn't really a thing 😂 I just hope one day japan finally cuts down labor hours and eliminates the toxic work culture of mandatory overtime so decent japanese husbands can come home and make love to their wives not being completely drained! 😂

I think you have to start at home and teach the children to do equal amounts of housework whether they are boys or girls. My mother (we only had one parent) taught both myself and my brother to cook, wash dishes, do laundry, clean etc., and we had to share the chores equally. So of course my brother continued doing those things automatically when he grew up and got a family. Then his children also had to share equally in the household chores. This means they have basic life skills and can take good care of themselves, and don't need to get married in order to survive! Mothers who do everything for their sons and never allow them to take part in the housework are not actually being kind, they are depriving them of basic skills.

@@sebastienh1100 How is fixing a car or sawing wood "basic life skills"? Do you need those to survive day-to-day life on your own? Unless you live out in the woods and have to build your own house and need a car to get anywhere at all, and there are no car mechanics nearby, but then I assume you would learn them.
We lived in a flat and did not have a car, but my mother used power tools, wrangled big dogs, wallpapered our entire flat on her own (with excellent results) and also taught both of us things like how to fix our own bicycles and how to wield a variety of carpentry tools, which has been very useful for me, but I definitely don't see them as basic day-to-day life skills, any more than knowing how to sew my own clothes or knit my own socks are.

After watching both videos, the parodies make Japan seem normal compared to the US and most of Europe. Most notable difference is that Japan gives the impression that double income families are a more recent social development, whereas traditional household roles in places like the US have collapsed due to the inability to afford homes, or earn enough money for a husband to support an entire family. Scandinavian countries are the exception where the government encourages equal and shared responsibilities in a family household.

Yes, and they are right about that. You can have a semi-working system in Skandinavia because that region is rich, and neither of the parents has to work too much to the point they do not even see their children. Even though like it or not, most women prefer to be a housewife, over the full-time retail worker, and men prefer to be strong enough to support the whole household. You can make artificial social constructions, but cannot make biology, and thousands of years of evolution...

I married an English man 33 years ago and he never lifted a finger in the home, never changed a nappy and, since he is a RN officer, was often away often on varous warships. Despite the long separation, it was difficult for him, when returning home, to abandon his Commander habits and becoming a gentle husband. Normally it took about two weeks at home before he stopped shouting orders and go out drinking with his fellow officers. Howeve It was my choce to marry him and my duty to endure his behavior. As far as "girlfriends" I kept silence and never asked a question....it is not worth it.

Keep up the good work Meshida-san. Japanese husbands sound a lot like the dads in prime time animated sitcoms. Dads like Homer Simpson, peter Griffin and Stan smith and even Cleveland Brown. They all bring home the bacon, do very little around the house because the wives are basically home makers who keep the house tidy and raise the kids, doing all the so called women’s work. Freeing the husbands to get drunk at the bar and do the sort of goofy stuff that brings the big laughs.
Which makes me wonder, would it be easy to woo a Japanese woman if I knew enough of the language to say “hey baby, I know how to wash dishes sometimes and my banana is of a respectable size. You’re getting close to thirty so how about you just marry me already?”
    😛😛😛😛

I can somehow relate to some of that, My relatives told me about a story about one of my Aunt's who dated and married to a Japanese salary man years ago.
My Japanese uncle was good and generous at first when he and my Aunt were still dating. When he got married to my Aunt sometime later, He changed a lot and becoming more demanding and he frequently have fights and quarrels with my Aunt in their household almost everyday until they eventually got divorced and they live in a separate house and my Aunt is keeping their two sons under her care since then, That happened years back.
    Japanese/ Non-Japanese relationships typically don't end well. 🙁

I don’t know if this will help but i f you don’t feel comfortable, and some of his attitudes bothers you. Talk to him over it first make sure the both sides listen to each others and if he still being a jerk won’t compromise then divorce is probably a choice.

It's so sad that Japanese men and society expect from Japanese married women to accept their husbands' cheating/affairs. It's the only rule that you cannot cheat on your partner in marriage. Japanese men are really heartless to ask for something like this from their partners. Feeling bad for Japanese women as they also get deprived from physical intimacy once they become mothers. Horrible!
