  • Get a close look at two early solid state pinball machines made by Williams...1979 FLASH and 1980 BLACKOUT! Host Todd Tuckey shows you how they look with Super Bright LED's and some game play too! Plus, our usual nonsense too!

    I love how Williams uses all of thier sounds over and over again. It kind of keeps all the lores in the same video/pin universe. I find it clever and not lazy.

    Two of my favorite childhood pinball games. I played both Blackout, and Flash a lot back in the day. I remember when I played Flash, and many of the Flash pinball games had the background sound, and there were like 2 or 3 that did not have the background sound, but it made the other sound effects.

      Paul W yes...they would have defaulted to the "No Background Sound" setting!

    Question! Of course the weak response of the flippers was the weak point of “Flash”. Can the original boards take upgraded flipper coils found in games like Firepower?

    Very Cool. I have both a Flash and Blackout (and a firepower). I like the LED setup. I am working on that myself.

    Damn, Flash looks pretty nice and clean. Could be better if it has green and blue lights on those LEDs since it suits the game pretty well. Also, Flash is the first pinball game to have a continuous background effects, and the more buttons you hit, the higher the pitch it gets until it resets onto a lower key sound, pretty similar to most Williams/Bally pinball games.

      i once heard one of these being playing at an amusement park where they had cranked up the sound- you could hear it half across the park.....awesome...

    I noticed the rubber grommets that the flipper plungers rest on are missing. Are they even supposed to be there on System 6 games? My Alien Poker and Blackout don't have them, but my F14 and BK2000 do.

    • @tntamusements
      @tntamusements  5 лет назад

      Starting with Firepower, the larger coil is used...but it depends on the actual metal coil bracket whether the rubber grommet is used.

    A fun fact about Blackout, from The Complete Book of Pinball, is that Constantino Mitchell lifted the backglass art from the cover of a 1968 issue of Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

    FLASH of all the machines, is the 1st machine that I can recall playing regularly back in the late 70's. It was one of the bookend machines back then, well that is what we always called them as it always seems to be with what other machine. Any guesses? Would love to add a FLASH to our home diner and still on the hunt for a real nice good looking FLASH machine.

    • @tntamusements
      @tntamusements  9 лет назад

      +IMRROcom I would guess Bally Strikes and Spares or Power Play.

    • @IMRROcom
      @IMRROcom 9 лет назад +1

      +TNT Amusements Inc Nope - Being from Arizona I have never seen a Power Play in real life. Just saw a another Strikes and Spares in a private collection about 3 weeks ago. FLASH seemed to always be partnered up with it's younger demon...GORGAR at the two arcades we would go they normally had 2 or 3 bell ringers in between them. The bowling ally they sat next to eachother. Heart Beat and Electric Hum with Thunder talk about a cool D&D vibe. Was looking for some GARGARs and the price seemt to be way up in the 3k to 5k. FLASH is still in my budget range. Hope to fined a nice clean FLASH within the next 6 months or so. I think you guys do some fine work on restorations too.

    there's a place near my house that has a Flash machine that is in fantastic condition that the guy there said he got because someone in another city was just going to throw it out...so, he got it for free, and only had to replace a couple of processing boards...it plays like i remember when they first came out- i don't think he did any mods to it...

    Common guys, ask Frank! Can you upgrade the flippers using the original “Flash” board or do they have to be upgrade/ replaced to accommodate the power coming from the flipper oils? I bet Franks got a double “D” yknocker upgrade on his game! Tell me when you get a nice Stellar Wats in please!

    • @tntamusements
      @tntamusements  5 лет назад

      If you rebuild the flippers with new links, sleeves coils and end of stroke switch, its pretty powerful.

    just had to work in Curt on the board behind Flash smh and wait a moment if Frank was on Blackout how'd that finger get in there O_O :) think that last drop target at the very end didn't want to go down :( went down like a mm. naughty. yes thanks for a quickie inside :)

    • @SagePatrynXX
      @SagePatrynXX 9 лет назад

      Lee Bartholomew always figure Flash would be red O_O. he needs like an old tiny video camera and just aim it towards the playfield and shove a PIP in the corner. (under the playfield) either that or allow a picture for 1 second or 2 into the video so we can pause and geek out (yes trying new things) IPDB I'm sure is nice but it's not LED'd :P Frank sounds a bit muted. Must be that baby thing. Good luck. Stay away from the baby cigars :D
