- Josh Berry joins the show and Dale Earnhardt Jr. relives how he discovered Berry as a driver in a very unconventional way.
Berry shares his origin story, discussing how losing his mom at a young age completely changed his life. Then how he and his dad racing helped them overcome the tragic loss. Josh shares how he ascended from racing at the local level to get bigger opportunities. Plus, why his path to this victory involved a decade of work in the shop.
Find out why the 30-year-old almost gave up on his chances of making it in NASCAR last year while wrestling with making big life and career decisions. Then hear how everything changed a day after coming to that realization.

That was a great interview. It shows what an amazing leader Dale Jr is in that he recognized Josh's talent, put him in position and gave him access but didn't do it for him. Josh had to work, learn, practice, fail, learn some more and experience success along the way. I appreciate this unique look into Josh's career and ultimately the insight into why JRM is so successful....although it's no surprise. Dale Jr is a great leader!
This shows that good things happen to good people who work hard. Very happy for this young man !!!
Combined with Dale Earnhardt taking an interest in you. Hard work doesn't automatically guarantee a pay off, there's probably a hundred Josh Berry's that will never be hard of.
@@joshuapowers4623 Agreed, my point was that if Josh hadn't busted his ass to get where he was Dale would have never taken interest in him. Even if Josh only races where he is now, he still will make a better living than most blue collar workers....thats from his dedication.
This dude deserves to be where he's at...hard work knowledge and determination..he has earned his shot ...and most important to me... didn't buy his way in
So True man.
He's a gr8 driver and person that never gives up ! Priceless for your organization 😜
Hi, Dale. I love your channel. I always thought you were a great driver, but I especially admire the off off-track Dale Jr. The things you are accomplishing and the man you have become are something to be proud of. Coming from such a racing heritage, one could understand if you were full of yourself. But that is not the case with you. You are so humble and so respectful of others, and so mindful of the beginnings of NASCAR and its history. I am really happy that folks can see the real you on your podcasts. I really believe that folks who were not Dale Jr. fans when you drove, just might be converted if they watched your videos and followed the things you are doing now. We need more like you. BTW, I was a Jeff Gordon fan.
I am one of those people. Jr. the driver was OK. Jr. ( and his family) and Kelly and her family have really taken it to another level! I am now a HUGE fan of this man (and woman)! I can't wait for more success for Josh and Jr. Motorsports.
I actually raced with you Dale in the legends car at Martinsville and finished 2nd behind you.
today Josh 1st top 10 in cup car #9 GREAT JOB DUDE.... your friends at Langley Speedway in Hampton Va congratulate you.. keep up the hard work and good luck in the rest of the ovals..
Love Josh’s story!!! This is a serious sponsorship opportunity. Somebody invest in this young man!!!!
This was a berry good episode jr
Josh, you're a breath of fresh air in this sport. Kudos to Dale for seeing what he did in you and giving you some of the tools and mentors you needed to help get you to where you are. Go out and get another Xfinity win or three before the season is over. I think you have a LOT more fans than you realize. We're all rooting for you.
Give him 200 ,000 a year... ok seriously glad you are giving him a shot. Hard work determines the outcome in your life!!!!
Jr., please push this guy up! Nascar needs more drivers like this who have spent time in the garage and work their way up!! This is where the character comes in which Nascar desperately needs now. Love Josh Berry’s story, would love to see him go further in the sport!!!
Great interview, wish JB much success in the upper levels!
I agree with I racing being able to show talent. Back in the mid 90's on the first NASCAR game I would try to run 30 laps a night during the winter at Richmond. I set the car up loose. It ran out like the 3/8 Dirt traçk I raced at.
I came out in the Spring really smooth... It was very beneficial.
I was waiting for him to get his shot. I knew he would be good! What a good, smart person he seems to be. Hope he gets himself his full time schedule!
I hope he makes his way to cup! He'll be my favorite driver if he ever does!
I like Josh seems like a good dude and a perfect underdog to root for
This story of Josh Berry's racing journey shows how many race car drivers that race in smaller race series are really good drivers that just never get a chance.
I promise I personally know at least 5 off the top of my head just in Texas that are better wheelman than Cody Ware lol
I keep saying this is my major pod cast period, I'm not going anywhere else.
Go Berry and thank you Jr for giving him a chance. And this guy needs a CUP ride!!!
JB to SHR now!! Let’s go!
I Just became a Josh Berry fan! Much respect for anyone who comes up the hard way, doesn't happen that way much anymore.
Dale is a great interviewer.
When Josh was talking about the loss of his Mom, Dale didn't try to interject his experience with losing a parent and make it about himself at all.
Hes very unselfish and really understands how to let the people he's interviewing be the focus of the conversation without unnecessary interruption unless he feels they could maybe clarify something.
Josh has such a non-stop fire to race, learn and win. So glad Dale has brought him though all he has to now. This is the guy, Dale, to win your shop a Cup. He can build it, drive it, win with it, fix it for next time, and teach everybody around him to do the same. You have the bedrock for a dynasty in Josh.
I have such a unique relationship with Josh. He beat the bricks off our ass on Iracing. I was asked an iracing admin to kick him off a league. One time I stayed out on old tires on a SLM race and he moved my ass to get to the lead. I hated him because he was soooo good. He seemed so arrogant but he was just that good. I know he hated me then and I am sure he hates me now but I am proud of him for what he has become. He has done everything with no money.
You don’t think R&B truck refinishing didn’t pay for Josh’s first couple seasons in Dale Jr’s late model?? That is his dads business. He got there with money, I promise.
@@King1614 i know Josh and his Dad , Kevin. Your totally wrong and don't know what your talking about.
Crazy how just last year he was racing late models... Now he has an Xfinity series win!
He ran races in 2014 as well
*2 Xfinity wins now 😎
Can't count the times Josh has literally kicked my butt in iracing, to see him kicking butt on the big stage is amazing. Man were so proud of you Josh.
Josh Berry , officially signed with SHR #4 Cup team on 6-21-2023 to filling the retiring Kevin Harvick's seat in 2024 . This video from over 2 years ago is an insight to the rise of a true WheelMan !!!!!
Jr .you are a gifted talent scout . I can remember several you spotted and help . Good catch again with this Fine young Man.
Was in an SK Modified race on iracing with Josh, Paul kusheba and Derek Kraus Wednesday before martinsville. Berry won that too.
Good guy!
Meat and Three places are pretty common outside of Atlanta. One that comes to mind that's real good is a place called "Dads" in Acworth. It's more of a buffet but you can also order off the menu. Good look getting in the place at lunchtime.
You did good kid .... Proud of you .... Stay sharp .... Stay focused
What a great kid, wish him all the best,go Josh.
Very cool show! I agree that it was always easy to see that Josh has what it takes in talent, maturity, smarts, and a great personality. I had no doubt he was going to win in any racing car he is given a fair chance in. Just a deserving Cinderella type story for Josh along with hats off to Dale Jr. for giving him the chance to earn success. DMP : )
I apologize for asking I've always wondered JR. Is 40 to late to get in. And if I could beet the odds how would I start or where. I know tools and know how to drive. I'd just like to try once and see. I'm pretty confident I could be that guy. Thanks. Any one opinion I'd appreciate it. I felt like this one podcast was the right one to ask. Thanks again Sir.. I appreciate all of you all time.
Josh Berry is my favorite driver of this current generation. He's still going to have a good career in Cup imho, would love so much to see what he could do in a Hendrick car for a full 36 race schedule. He'd put up numbers.
I have that Earnhardt wall hanger behind Josh.
I do too lol
Wow, wow, wow....
I've learned a little bit more about Josh each year the last couple of years but had no idea what he's meant to JRM and their late model program.
Reminds me of Steve Park at The Rock 2001 and then Harvick same year @ Atlanta, by a foot. Sr is smiling always.
Give this man a full time ride JR!
We are really proud of Josh winning this race. He has a lot of fans in iracing community.
Dale Jr : "what's a meat and 3?.
Answer.
Damn good eating if your at the right place.
I cannot wait until next season when he gets that 8 car full time he deserves every bit of it .....he could seriously be a championship 4 contender....he has a such a great story along with Brandon Brown too i hope they both are serious threats next season
Josh Berry has enough talent and experience that I think he's deserving of a full-time XFINITY ride and possibly a full-time Cup ride, it's not as common these days, but rookies used to come in in their 30s. Both Earnhardt and Biffle did, Reutimann was 38. It's not impossible to start that late in Cup and enjoy a relatively successful career if it's the right combination of driver, team, car.
Lizard's Thicket in Columbia SC. Is a meat and 3.
Came to the comments wanting to say great things about Josh but I can't help but keep wondering how Junior has never heard of a "meat and three" style restaurant! He's from the south so I'm puzzled by this.
Hey dale
My mom had a heart attack in her sleep also. I was only 10
This video is 1 year old as of now, and I'm just curious is he driving the number 9 under the contract he has with you or is he have some kind of deal worked out with Hendrix on top of what you pay him
Surly hope Dale Jr hires josh to hopefully drive full time in the xfinity series or if Dale Jr decides to have a team in the Nascar cup series I sure hope Josh is his driver!
A few times, one can remember skills
If Josh's career as a driver doesn't work out, I think he'd make a heck of a crew chief.
Seen Josh on Twitchs iracing page chatting with us. He is still very god iracer.
Dale Sr. HATED the in car camera for years! The team said it was for weight reasons back then but we all knew the reason.....
Jr Motorsports should buy a Dirt Super Late Model. Let LW, Josh and those guys Race it around home every now and then. I think that would add another aspect to the Overall Driver Development that a young Driver goes through at Jr. Motorsports
Nuts and bolts jr!!! I have a metric crescent wrench!!
Man, I love this current age of tech. If podcasting wasn't a thing, we would probably have never heard this about Berry and a bunch of other great stories. TV interviews always seem the same with the same questions and the same cookie cutter responses.
OMG Jr ! You havent been to Nashville much if u dont know what a meat & 3 is lol 🤘🏻🏁
Mike, pipe up about Meat & Threes! They're all over Alabama, the South & some it Texas.
Who doesn’t know what a meat and three is? 😀
The iracing community is not that good. Maybe to real nascar drivers but if you're new and start winning the guys that has been on there forever will gang up on you and bully you and send tickets in on you to get you into trouble. And when you fight it and prove you didn't do anything wrong iracing doesn't do anything, you still get suspended and if you ticket those guys iracing does nothing. This is why I quit iracing and I was actually pretty good and had a lot of wins.
I’ll say what I believe a lot of folks are saying, this man needs a sponsor and a full season in the Xfinity series. He’s a helluva a driver and better still a humble nice person. I for one would like to see the 8 car run full tim. Now to listen to the full podcast. Take care & stay safe folks. Cheers
Racin!!!!!!!
i can drive better than all you guys, but sadly will never get the chance to prove it. i'm not connected or have deep pocket connections.
This does not surprise me one bit that Dale Jr would find talent with a online game. You could bet your bottom dollar that Sr would be on iracing.
I’ve got to disagree with you. I highly doubt Sr would be on iracing. I just don’t see that at all, but maybe I’m wrong.
Junior has spoken about how dad thought virtual racing was silly. Granted, he passed before modern simulators, but he would've had to have been won over.
@@toddschlicher right... there's no way Dale sr would be racing in any iRacing series, imo anyways. He used to rag on Jr back in the day when he'd be playing Playstation
lol..that only opposite....Dale Earnhardt would not be Iracing
Nuts and bolts jr!!! I have a metric crescent wrench!!
