How many superlatives can be said about this man, Akira, his guitar mastery of this piece of music....lovely isn't enough, wonderful is lacking...astounding or ethereal might get close...it makes me give thanks to God for music, and young people who can play like this.
Far and away the most soulful and expressive performance of this arrangement I've heard, and I can't stop listening. You've inspired me to take another try at the guitar, hopefully to play this for my little son someday; this song always makes me think of him, and want to make the world a better place for him to live in. Sorry for the overly sappy comment, and thank you for the music.
Akira, thank you for posting this and many others. It has helped me tremendously in my efforts to learn this. Your playing is very clear, clean and musical. Bravo!
Beautifully played Akira... I was not familiar with this song till I came across you playing it and then watched Tommy play it,,,,,, and you nailed it!!!
Hi, also me too like very much Tommy Emmanuel that I really consider a great person and a great musicist. You play his songs very well and watching your videos helps me a lot to understand the technique of execution. Thanks, I will continue to follow you.
Great playing man! I'm looking to get an apogee mic 96k for my iPad that I can run through garage band to record my acoustic. This video gives me confidence with making the purchase; sounds great!
Absolutely beautiful Akira! Great expression on the melody. Always nice to know that u still have time to play the guitar. Take care mate and I hope we'll cross paths again. Cheers, Danny
Akira, that performance was amazing! That was the cleanest, most beautiful cover of TE's arrangement of Saltwater I've ever heard. You honor both Juilian Lennon and Tommy Emmanuel with that cover. I've been working on that piece for months, and your video gave such great views of your hands that I was able to pick up quite a lot of detail that I was missing. Thank you! If I might ask, what were your sources for learning it? Recordings? Other RUclips videos? Lessons? Tabs? Channeling Tommy directly?? :-) Again, thank you so much for your dedication, and for sharing one of the most beautiful finger style arrangements ever.
Thank you so much for your kind words John. It makes me happy. I used to learn using official tabs to learn his songs most of the times but since a few yeras ago I started learning by ear along with videos on youtube. Somrtimes I have a quick look at tabs but arrangements of tabs only match the ways Tommy played on recordings and I always find that it' not how Tommy plays currently. Learning by ear takes way longer than using tabs but I think I pay more attention to details in that way. Thank you.
Tabs dont contain physics. The tone you get out of the instrument is the most complex detail. Not that one single harmony or pulloff Tommy decided to change over time. Playing by ear is a gift. So happy to hear young players using it.
This is beautiful! Your covers are always so wonderful it is evident you love the music and take the time and effort to play the song the way it deserves to be played. Thanks:)
Thank you very much! I took a long time to be ready to record this song. I still make small mistakes everytime but happy with this recording! Thank you for your kind words!
Very impressive! Played very expressively as well. I;ll be learning this tune next thanks to your inspiration. One Question please: I see that you are using an Apogee mic....direct into GB? In my headphones it sounds stereo so is there another mic or maybe a direct signal from the guitar's output blended in as well? May I also ask if you put the video and the audio tougher and synch them in iMovie? Thanks!
Hi Chris, thanks for watching. Yes I used apogee mic recorded directly into garage band on my iPhone 6 in Mono. I duplicated the mono track and panned them hard left and right. Then put some reverb on it. Next I exported the file into my pc to put it in audacity for adjusting the volume and stuff. The video is recorded on my degital csmera. I use some cheap video editing software to put the video and audio files together. I don't use imovie. Good luck on your learning this song!
hi Akira could you tell me how did you take down the original nut ? I bought a new 808te and the height on 12th fret is unacceptable for me... too high. I wanna put a new nut but it's glued so tightly
Hi, thanks for writing. First of all, I wanna make sure that you are asking about Nut or Saddle. You said "nut" but if you don't like the action on the 12th fret, it's usually about a saddle, not a nut. Nut height affects low frets rather than high frets. Or it could just be that the neck is not straight. So please check it again. Then I can help you with what I know about it:)
Akira808 Thanks for your reply! Actually I want to adjust both the Nut(at the top of the neck) and Saddle(in the bridge) cause the action on both 1st and 12th frets are too high. I've already adjusted the neck to be nearly straight (it's still a little little little concave and I thought it was normal, is it?) I don't know how to adjust the action on the 1st fret. Should I take off the nut to wear it shorter? Thank you
Hi, probably I wouldn't remove the nut in your case. Because I think it's easier to file the nut slots a bit deeper. Unless you don't like the slot spacing. Removing and making a nut is a lot of work, harder than making a saddle and you need to study a lot otherwise you'll wreck your guitar. Also It's not a good idea to file down the bottom of the nut. Because you can't adjust the height of the nut(= depth of nut slots) individually. Even if you could file the bottom very flat and straight, it might be too low for some strings. I like to do D.I.Y job so my saddle and nut are hand made by me. But I made and replaced them 3 or 4 times until I was really satisfied with them. And of course I did a lot of research before doing it. I recommend to file the nut slots this time but you need some nut slot files. If you still wanna remove the nut and make new one it's ok. Either way, can you tell me what do you want to do, then I'll find some photos and stuff about how to do it and send it to you. You can give me your email address? Thanks. But if you can find a good luthier near you that's the best:)
Akira808 wow many thanks! I didn't expect you would answer it in such detail. It helps me a lot. I want to D.I.Y a new nut and saddle made in bone since it may conduct the strings' vibration better and the guitar may sounds better so I need to remove the original nut like you did. I will really appreciate it if you can send me some photos of how to do it. My email is lay.1010@hotmail.com XD,thanks man!

Hi,Akira. Sounds very perfect! What strings do you use?
Did that guitar originally come with a pick guard?
Yes, it did. I removed it!

Akira - is it possible to use this instrumental for a video I am making on climate change? Obviously you will be acknowledged in the credits.
Hi Andrew,
Yes. That’s no problem😉 Thanks for asking.
@@akira808cjp That is so kind of you. We will send you the video if you let me know your email address.
Awesome! So clean! What mic are u using?
Brice Hursey I think that's an Apogee
It's an apogee Mic and recorded into Garage band. Thank you for watching!
what a small hand, but u play it nicely
Thank you😄
good
Please teach Akira 😄
Is that a custom shop you are playing?
Hi, It's not. It's a standard ebg808te. Thanks for watching.
That's how you got the 808 in your name? I thought it was from a tube screamer. Ah ah. Great rendition as always.
