Thanks to both Ryan and Justin for making a very entertaining video. It’s always nice to unwind and enjoy catching large fish. It’ll be cool watching Justin salt water fish out of a Hobie Lynx.
@KayakCatfish I live on the Tennessee River now, just below Wheeler, but I did live in Louisiana for a few years. I also lived in Florida for many years. Anywhere you have saltwater meeting freshwater, you have to consider the tidal effect on the fish, the moon stage, (waning or waxing)... Much the way rising waters and current effects the bite at home, it will effect everything in tidal waters. Also... Just as the cats here prefer to feed on local bait fish, so do the tidal waters fish. Local bait fish like pinfish, grunts, lady fish, mullet, crabs, or large shrimp work wonders ! Most saltwater fish have bony mouth's with much harder "teeth", making a hooksett more difficult. Sharpen your hooks regularly and give them time to chew on it or even swallow it. A great video young brother ! It's good to see a man confront his challenges and enjoy the hell out of it, no matter what ! 👊😂

It made me happy to know I finally hid your glove where you couldn't find it! Trouble is, I don't remember where I hid it. Sorry about that.
Hello Justin, I was watching your video from Louisiana. I'm glad you chose to cut the line on that stingray. I've been stung by one. I spent three days in the hospital because of it. That barb that they have on their tales is no joke. I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. Catch a bunch.
Damn that drum was freaking awesome! My grandfather hated them he said. Said they swamped his baits when he wasn’t fishing for them. Called them, “them dum drums” eat terds off a hook if I threw it out there lol. 😂 miss that man. Great man! Can’t wait to watch this trip bud! Good luck fellas.

A lot of the bites yall was getting and chewing your baits up was most likely crabs and you’ll even think you got a fish for a minute when you are dragging them threw the water sideways but then they just let go lol. Another great video as always. Them black drum are fun to catch for sure. Oh and as much ice as you use and hate going to the store you should invest in a small ice machine lol
You probably had comments about this already but you did exactly the right thing by cutting off that stingray. We catch plenty here and unless you know what you're doing, they can cause a big problem. You do NOT want one in the kayak with you. You were guessing it was trying to get you with its tail and you were right - that's their survival mechanism. You get that tail barb in you and it's a trip to the ER and probably bad pain for months.
Alligator Gar are scary they can get up to 327 pounds and 9 ft long. There scales are razor sharp Native Americans use to use them for arrow heads. There teeth can get up to a inch long and are the only Gar species with a double row of teeth. Gar are the hardest fish to hook. A+ catch!!!!
Super entertaining and informative adventure video! Might the drum be more receptive to eating the skipjack tails you offer because they are accustomed to foraging for fish parts from the fish-cleaning table? You may have stumbled upon their main menu.
You definitely are not stupid for not wanting to get that stingray in the kayak. Those are very unsafe. They have a venom on a barb that is on the base of their tail that causes severe infections. Good call being safe on it
The crocodile hunter was unfortunately stabbed right thru his heart by one. Most people live with stingray attacks, but they are extremely painful and if not treated can cause gangrene and lead to amputation and even cause heart attacks. I love watching everything about all marine biology. Kind of a nerd in that way lol.
Just to help you sleep at night all those missed fish were probably 99.9% gar. Fish the Ohio River all the time for big flatheads, but when they roll in they hit the exact same way luckily I landed a hook in a couple to tell or see them hitting the tops of the water. I could tell by bites they usually bite the baits and gnaw on them as soon as they feel resistance they try to shake free
The stuff chewing up the baits and the slow pull are most likely crabs. That's where having the baits suspended would have helped but then you're getting away from the drum. Check baits often.
At an hour in, that was a sailcat. I've been told they are good to eat (assuming you can get past the slime all over the skin). You probably have to bleed them out or cut out the bloodlines (blood vessels). I love freshwater catfish, but have been skewered a couple of times by the hardheads and sailcats. It's excruciating and you swell up where the spine goes in. Be very careful dehooking them
From what I saw you hooked into a lot of AG. There is a u tuber that does a lot of AG fishing. He is from Texas I believe. It goes without saying, I am no expert. He's channel is (Wild Life). If you ever go to Texas check him out. He explains why AG drop it. You video was great and always entertaining. Stay safe brother.

They call them black drum "big ugly". Fishing cut bait with that much weight in brackish water brings hardhead catfish and drum (drum in the tide flow, hard heads and maybe gafftopsail catfish and some sharks when the tide slacks). You did right by that stingray. You do not want to get popped by that stinger, trust me. You also want to double check on using white bass as bait as I think they are game fish there.

You mentioned the Catching Dinosaurs dude useing small hooks. I wonder if with those bigger hooks that maybe a aligator gar could possibly cach that hook shank up in his teeth and pop it.
