I think jbl just made this speakers mono so they can "waste less money" and with that woofer that flex a lot they can make bass tests with lfm xtreme bass and like that, but i would like to have a flip 5
Stereo speakers would cost the same as just one mono to produce. It’s not about being cheaper. It’s because it just makes sense having only mono in a small portable speaker. One or 2 driver. There is no stereo seperation that it makes no difference with 1 driver or 2 driver. And the larger single driver, would produce more bass and loudness than a stereo speaker. Plus I also think they did this to increase more sales as people would buy another flip 5 in order to obtain a true stereo experience using the mono speaker as l and r channels.

I got mine in India for $91 in November 2019 but the price went up to $110 after that and has pretty much remained there. (In India) The reason is, while the Flip 5 sounds good, it is not better... in fact it is a major step backwards. . The Flip 4 is stereo, the Flip 5 is mono. . The Flip 4 has a mic, it is an excellent speaker phone. The 5 doesn't have a mic! . The Flip 4 also has a bass boosting feature. Press the Bluetooth and the Volume down button for about 10 seconds and you enter Extra Bass Mode. . The Flip 4 ports are covered with a watertight flap. The 5 has them exposed. How waterproof can that be? . Flip 4 has a 3.5mm / Aux In port. The 5 doesnt! Though it is BT 4. The Flip 4 has a bright sound and a very tight bass and open mids. (I reduce the treble a tad, with my phone's eq, just a small step and it sounds perfect. For speech and muffled recordings, it is crystal clear as is. It also has 2 active drivers and 2 passive bass radiators. The Flip 5 has one active driver, however it charges via type C, sounds good and looks as good as the 4, though slightly larger. The 3.5 aux input is essential for watching video without lag / latency. This speaker is a perfect blend of sound and size, portability, compatibility, style and ruggedness. It has an IPX7 rating and it lives up to it. Battery life is fine, not great, for either. The price, at $90 is fair. And if you can by any chance place it in a corner, it blows the lid off much larger speakers! This is a small speaker you will fall in love with, can carry around and never tire of! 4/5*. 1/2 off for the average battery and 1/2 off for being a fraction too bright. Flip 4 rules! **** 😊 _
Charge 4 has more power and bass and can be used as power bank. Flip 5 has clearer sound, is smaller and slightly cheaper so it depends on your needs. There's clearly more value in the Charge but might sound a bit more muffled and it's slightly bigger/heavier.
Hi, I have 2 jbl flip 5 speakers that I use in stereo mode. I want to sell them and upgrade to a single portable one with even more bass. Would you recommend it or should I keep them? The thing is IDK if theres something better cause I tried the charge 5 and I honestly think my flip's 5 sound better together than a single one. The xtreme might be good but its price is too expensive and if it sounds the same as my speakers it would be a waste. Does anybody know what should I do? Should I bought a xtreme or keep my speakers?
I agree that getting a Charge instead wouldn't really be an upgrade. If size isn't that important then see if you can find a Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 7 or 8, I have the 7 and it's bass is really impressive and has stereo tweeters too. I've also heard good things about the new Go Play 3 but that might be too expensive. And look for Harman Kardon Citation 200 if you can still find one at a reduced price, that's also a compact bass beast.

Hmm that's interesting. It's a genuine JBL speaker right? Both of the radiators on mine are the same color. I'm curious what version your Flip 5 is, since there are three as far as I know. You can find that on it's box where the serial number (SN) is. You can see mine at 0:25 it starts with GG and there are two other versions (TL and CS).
@@AudioCuriosity The label is for some reason removed on mine but it's CS (the seller said that) and it looks like genuine JBL (by looking at the box and the details on the speaker itself, and the sound) So my unit is probably a color-defective one :/
@Ridwan Rahman there are two models.. for each jbl speaker.. GG and PL.. but for xtreme models and boombox it is GG and PL.. it's just the first 2 letters of the model number
The sound isn't an upgrade, It has now Partyboost, so it only works with other JBL Flip 5 speakers, so it won't even exist for you. For the price of 99$ you can get the soundcore Motion+ The soundcore Motion + is a bit louder than the JBL Xtreme in battery mode. Or if you want something that is just as good as the flip 5, save your money and get the Tribit Maxsoundplus. The Flip 5 is worth 50$, not 99.

really, it's pretty good sounding. sounds better than my charge 4. has less bass obviously but the rest of the frequencies are slightly better

Audio Curiosity yes they sound great and I already have two xb31’s, two xb41’s and one xb21 . All paired together really is incredible.
Haven't tested the newer models but I have the XB20 and XB30. The XB20 is probably in my top 3 favorite speakers, I love its warm sound at low levels.
