My dad grew them in his vege garden on our farm in NZ 1950s+. Every week he picked a huge bunch for me to give to my teacher, Sr Monica. I grow them now because of the memories associated with them. This year something very special happened. I'd been praying a Novena to St Theresa who indicates she's taken your prayer to Jesus by sending a flower, usually a rose. My husband and I returned home from a winter holiday in Fiji and not only was there a bud of souvenir de la mason blooming but my fence was ablaze from top to bottom with sweet peas. I'd intended to remove the spent vines when I got back from holiday. Now I'll be doing it next month as I've been picking flowers every other day since the shortest day, ie 21 June 2023.
Hi, I live in Holland & went yesterday to my favourite flower garden where we can pick & pay. I chose the sweet peas and now want to grow them in my forest garden . Thank you for a very informative video. A delightful flower 🌸
Ohhhh, not getting enough SUN! I've been trying everything- the right fertilizers, the right drip irrigation.... I have 6 foot, healthy vines with no flowers. I didn't think of the partial shade being a problem. Thank you!
@@jennhoff03 Definitely not alone! The next year I put them in a shallow window box not realising they like to get their roots deep🤦🏽♀️ They did actually flower but not for long! 😅 It’s all part of the fun!
I think a lot of us grow Sweet Peas purely for the nostalgia 🥹 There is something so special about the way certain smells can take you back in time and I HAVE to grow them every year or else it just feels like something is missing!😅

That happened to me the first time I tried to grow some. It was so disappointing!😭
@@Crocs4catsI'm sorry that happened to you, but I'm also so glad I'm not alone!

@@Crocs4catsThat's a great perspective! And thanks for saving me from doing the exact same thing next year. ;'D

Me too. Bless you from Cape Town😊
I buy sweet pea plugs. 6 little tubs for £5.95 the lot. Each tub has about 5 sweet peas each
How many sweet pea plants per pot/container?! Thank you for the video.
Do you only need to pick them out once?? Or a few times? Thanks!
Once.
Just once when they’re about 10-20 cm tall.
Would it be possible to order seed from you? My seed produced only purple flowers.
Unfortunately, I don't retail seed.
