    It breaks my heart people in the comments don't see the beauty in this, and question the why. This is one of the few extended looks into what this woman does to prepare for her art. The sacrifices, the challenges she overcomes, that what she does in every one of her videos is a lot harder and more taxing than we think. One of the few people on earth that can play this beautifully, of the even fewer that can play while dancing, one of the few that can now say she can play and dance suspended by her hair. All of that and she made herself vulnerable to share it all with us. This is beautiful. This is inspiring.

    I see a lot of people asking why are you doing this to your body, but as an artist and a ex dancer, I know how it feels to WANT to learn something so bad that you train everyday and the process to that is painful, your body is not used to that and that's why it hurts, but if you don't, you'll always ask yourself the "what if". I admire your braveness and you will to perfom this. It's amazing.

Seeing someone who I look up to, someone who I’ve listed to since I was seven, tell me I’m braver than I know while watching her overcome her own demons means so much to me. I start by showing the clip from your concert. They allways assume it came easy to you and that you did not feel any pain because you are a superhuman. Then I show your vlog and they quickly change their mind. Thank you for showing us every part of the process, the ups and downs, joy and pain. I have followed your journey since you started and I am SO PROUD of you.

    Lindsey, you are incredible and truly an inspiration. I struggle with anxiety and depression and I can’t even sit down to write the stories I am dying to without doubt and nervous reactions, whether I will ever publish or not. But seeing you struggle through your training and crying each time you just pull up to the “gym” or whatnot, it has given me comfort and strength in knowing that you are right: I can do hard things, because I have done them before. I am strong and I can overcome.
    To the “why would someone even want to do this if it hurts so much?”
    That is human nature, and the pain is just one of the kinds of costs we pay to achieve something new or grand. A ballerina destroys their feet to dance as gracefully as they do, bodybuilders undergo training and intense restrictions to enhance their body’s strength, even musicians and artists give up countless hours and dedicated brain power to hone their crafts. Everyone that strives for excellence or for their goal or, in this case, vision, has to sacrifice. Yes it hurts, but she is okay and if there was that much risk why would anyone do it? Yea there are less painful, more conventional ways to hang, but this is unique and practical for violin playing and full movement for dance. So if that’s the case, why not learn this? It looks pretty amazing, btw

    From seeing the comments, I got to say, nothing wrong with either giving up something if you can't physically and/or mentally handle something. Some things just aren't for some people. BUT there's nothing wrong with working through things like this either. Some people are like "why should she put herself through this if it hurts?" Well ask that to all the other professionals who've learned this or heck, people from Cirque Du Soleil. None of them was just born with the pain tolerance, they had to learn it. It's definitely no walk in the park, but it CAN be done.

    • @LukeandSteph
      @LukeandSteph 4 года назад +16

      I saw an artist do this in a Cirque show, it was incredible! But I looked up the artist after and she had been training for YEARS before she performed her hair hanging act. I can't believe Lindsey only did it in a couple months, that's insanely dangerous! I think that's why everyone is so concerned for her.

    • @rocksfire4390
      @rocksfire4390 4 года назад +7

      this is not true, some people have higher pain tolerance then others. also this isn't something you normally just start doing. as someone who is new will ofc feel far more pain then someone who is use to it.
      any extra weight makes it that much more painful.
      if you looked up the act, it still HURTS even the professionals who have been doing it most of their life.

    • @KateandBree
      @KateandBree 4 года назад +11

      I’m a disabled athlete and there’s one thing I learned from attending a symposium from someone who trains Olympians: there’s a difference between growing pain (as in you’re gaining strength) and literal pain. If you’re shaking, sore, fatigued, burning or your muscles are swollen, these are normal when you are training. If you experience - at any time during training - a sudden intense, sharp pain that makes you gasp and is only relieved when you stop, that’s your body telling you to stop. No more. Doing it more is a detriment to your body. You can ruin your joints that is only shown in the future.
      She could have done herself a real disservice by not listening to her body.

      That is the truth, it doesn't matter how many times we fail. No, what really matters is never giving in to our failures and giving up. We never truly fail until we give up, if we push through and continue to overcome every challenge in life we grow stronger. This not only applies to our lives but also our Spiritual life with God. Our Lord will test us, and getting back up and overcoming all the trials put before us helps us grow stronger as Christians and only strengthens our relationship with God.

I love the message that no matter what you are going through, keep persevering and you will make it, but there are times where you are stronger by giving up. Sometimes it is not worth the risks and dangers of something. Hanging by your hair is pulling on the scalp and that can cause serious problems especially if you do it repeatedly. It damages your scalp and you can go bald and have other health problems. Plus, that is not good for your neck to hang like that. Especially if you happen to fall. There is art, then there is just tormenting yourself. Please be careful.

      That isn't the same thing at all. There is tremendous catharsis through pain though. If you can bury a best friend and a parent you'd be surprised how much you can endure and how much testing yourself can help you get over something. Athletes go through this too. Think about boxers or MMA fighters. Think about soldiers. Think about a doctor trying to save a patient for hours on end straight. How people choose to inflict pain on themselves to test themselves and make themselves stronger is how humans are wired. Whenever you go to a gym you are ripping your muscles up - it is when they HEAL that you become stronger. This is no different.

Giving up your own comfort to give artistic piece of visual and musical joy to others is, I think, one of the best things that artist can do (as long as she/he doesn't sacrifice her/his health or life). It doesn't need to be physical like this or extremely difficult song. Just something that YOU really want to do, learn and show to others. IMHO Lindsey does that every time and in every video and performance.

    I love how honest lindsey is. I always imagined someone like her to be unshakeable with all that she's accomplished. So it's a warning experience to see a hero of yours struggle and breakdown. So I will push myself and follow Lindsey's example instead of comparing myself. Thank you so much for your art and bravery lindsey. I wish you the best and will pray that I can get past my own hurdles as well!

    I’m super disappointed in the comments from you so called “fans” and “supporters” there’s nothing wrong with wanting to learn something new. Hair hanging is not an easy activity and no one is born with the ability to do it right off the bat. Duh! You’re literally pulling all your weight down while your head feels like it’s being pulled against the weight! That would make anybody hurt! And it’s not like this is something that can be quickly learned. As you saw, it’s a process, and a journey to learn this. The fact that so many people are telling her she shouldn’t do this because it hurts, as if she is harming herself or purposefully abusing herself, is mind blowing. You all should be supporting her and the courage and determination she had to continue to learn.

    There's a lot of naysayers in these comments, projecting their own fears onto you, but I understand that conviction to see through what you've started. To know you can do what you set out to do. To conquer the fear and see a vision come to fruition. Even if it is painful. You're a dancer, and this was a new challenge. I've lost that part of myself, but seeing this and seeing the end result, reminds me it's never gone- just misplaced. I can, and will, find it again. Thank you, Lindsey.

    A lot of people wondering why would she do this. But she’s an artist. Artists set different goals for themselves. Why would a ballerina dance. Why would a guitarist continue playing despite the painful callous you can develop on your fingers. Why would a boxer box. Why would an athlete play and put their bodies through the ringer.
    To beautiful earth and invoke some emotion from others.
    Keep it up. This is inspiring.👏👏👏👏

      i think it's more or less about her getting over something painful. rather then being a "artist".

      @@charlenesuh1933, one can use a harness instead of their own hair to suspend one's self in the air. if there is a technology that can reduce the pain of toe pointing in ballet then it should be used. making it less painful wouldn't make it any less beautiful. unless, of course, they need to go through the pain for the viewers to appreciate it to the same extent. but that is a bit dark.

    I am in TEARS. This is so inspiring. Seeing this AFTER the music video you released, seeing the result of your determination and strength makes this so much more emotional! In the video you're very clearly focused on the technique of the routine, but you also seemed so at peace! It confirmed for me something I learned about peace recently, is that peace isn't this sleepy, airy state of unconsciousness, it's alive and it's moving! It allows your heart, body and mind to consciously be at rest while achieving the impossible.
    I love that you've shown us the journey it took to get to that video, especially from a faith perspective. There are so many people saying you shouldn't have put yourself through it, but that breakthrough at 2:43 proves just how important this sort of thing is for faith, seeing that quitting robs us of the potential to become a better version of ourselves, someone more in tune with who God wants us to be. It's exactly what you said at 2:30. I love everything you're doing
