    Thanks Kevin for the update. I'm retiring in 2 weeks, ( 40 + years as cabinet maker), if I lived closer I'd come over and help with your projects. 😂 Good luck

    I love watching videos of guitars built from start to finish either as a series or single video.

    I would love to see a video on the set up of a guitar. Nut and bridge with intonation. Filing the nut. Setting string height. How you work the saddle at the same time. I have only built one guitar, now on to my second, and the set up is where I struggled the most. And it makes or breaks a guitar. I’ve learned a lot from your channel and always appreciate the sense of humour.

    I apologize if you've already touched on these topics but I'll throw a few out there for you.
    I'm primarily a hand tool worker wanting to build my own instruments. I don't owner an electric thickness planer or drum sander. I think a video on how to thin sides without power tools would be informative to those of us without the funds to buy a drum sander.
    I see you have some hand tools on your shop wall. A video on when you might find each tool useful would be great!
    If you have any other home made shop tools/jigs that you haven't shared on your channel, those would be interesting to see.

    Can't wait to see your progress on the new shop! There's nothibg more exciting than expanding your work areas.
    Your use of native woods has really inspired me to start building my own guitar, just bought a slab of box elder & black walnut for bodies & am going to experiment with local red cedar & home depot pine for tops. I'm going to start with a box- style guitar inspired by Steve of Boxwood Guitars in CA.
    Thank you for all of your work on the channel! I have just started skimming through your videos and they have been incredibly valuable.

    Glad to see you back and shop expansion is always a good thing it says things are going well I like your videos and hope you keep up with them and for me I would like to see more fine details like the stupid little things that most people just pass over those stupid little things would mean a lot to this old guy and to let you know I was building guitars and violins in my 20's and 30's but stopped until now that I'm in my mid 60' now that I am retired I am getting back into it and as a custom wood worker all of my life I think it will not be much trouble to do it again I have been doing guitar and violin repairs all my life so it's not new and I am building all the tooling first and trying to get ready thank you for you advise that you give in your videos and like you say I will be the largest guitar builder in Obrien Florida and for now it looks like in the whole North Central Florida area but I just have not been able to find anyone else yet and again thank you for all the help you have given in your videos I pray that God keeps Blessing you with all that you do

    I see that someone else in the comments mentioned not having a drum sander. I'm in the same boat, so anything you can share on thicknessing would be helpful. But to get even broader than that, I have really appreciated content about making the tools or jigs used to make the guitar, rather than having to buy more tools. The more content you can share on how to make the things that help us make the guitar, the better. Thanks again for all the great information you share with us.

    Hey, I wondered about you. Glad to hear you are well. In terms of a shop, too much space si almost enough and the same applies to sunlight in all seasons but always the case in winter. New construction is always fun. Be careful to have others do the heavy lifting. You wanna be the guy in the white supervisors. Best Regards,

    Since you have a commission you're going to be working on, perhaps you'd create a series showing the construction. I know you did a rough series on that bass guitar, but I think it'd be useful to see each step in the creation of a single instrument, your way. Although filming would slow you down, so I realize this is a big ask.

    I know you have many projects going, but I was interested in if you are going to send your dull rasps and files to California to get resharpened. I thought you might jump at the chance to get your files and rasps sharpened. Boggs are real pros at what they do, so send your tools for them to work their magic on.

    Have you built a hybrid nylon guitar? That is what they call it. With a radius fingerboard, narrower neck. To have a the playability more like an acoustic

    • @thepragmaticluthier
      @thepragmaticluthier  Месяц назад

      To my knowledge and experience, there is no such thing as a "hybrid" nylon string guitar. Beyond the obvious commonalities of body shape, a neck and a bridged, there is no crossover and very little overlap between steel string and nylon string guitars. Even if you want your nylon string guitar to look like a steel string guitar, putting a radius on a fingerboard, giving a non-classical guitar shape, or whatever else one proposes, the result will be all for naught. A nylon string (classical) guitar is, by its nature more easily played than a steel string instrument because the strings are much more flexible. Necks are wider on nylon string guitars because the strings themselves, being of greater diameter, take up more space on the fingerboard. It needs to be wider. Additionally, the idea that a neck becomes easier to play on as it gets narrower, to a point, is a common but misplace notion. There is little or no point to arching the fingerboard of a nylon string guitar. Classical guitar construction best practices demonstrate that clearly and an arched board may actually be a deterrent to playability. The action of a nylon string guitar must be higher than a steel string guitar, given the increased flexibility of the strings. A guitar intended to use nylon strings must be designed specifically for that purpose. Once again, classical guitar best practices demonstrate this consistently. Put nylon strings on a steel string guitar and you will immediately hear a loss of volume, a muddy, inarticulate tone lacking in strength and harmonics throughout the range of the guitar.
