- “I was probably the popularest kind on campus, but in the worst way,” Lil Yachty says partway through #KeepSailing, a new film directed by Petra Collins and produced by The FADER. “I was a laughingstock. I was a joke because of my hair. Being in college really let me know I don’t want to live a regular life. I want to be rich, I want to be a celebrity, I want to be famous. I want to have this hair and people don’t laugh, they get excited.”
Filmed in the Atlanta suburbs where the red-headed Lil Yachty grew up, this 14-minute film - sort of like a docu-musical - is a gorgeous and goofy look at his rise. It’s full of surreal reenactments, boat trips, and interviews with Lil Yachty’s mom, his uncle Darnell Boat, his go-to producers Burberry Perry and Earl, and all his good friends in the Sailing Team.
Plus! There are musical performances of two new songs - “So Many People” and “All In” - both from Lil Yachty's new mixtape Summer Songs 2, which comes out tonight, July 19, at midnight EST. The kid had a dream and he made it real.

Lil boat has a way different style with his flow beats and image very happy and innocent in a way aswell as fun while Tyler and odd future where weird lol and distorted with their sound and flow it’s kinda hard to explain, but you get my drift.

It's kinda hard to believe nobody liked Blueberry Perry's beats.The first time i heard wintertime on a boat,the beat blew me away.
There's a lot of places, especially in rural america, where most people are fucking inbred and genuinely dont have good taste. You get weird pockets of people who are demonized for actually having taste, because whereas in urban areas, people strive to be innovative and push boundaries, in rural america it's all about tradition and conformity. The beats are great but I'll bet all my money it was just too "different" from what most of their peers were listening to.

Because in Atlanta think about who we have. Future, Migos, Gucci. We usually gravitate to the heavier trap sound. There are more lil uzi fans out here than yachty fans. A lot of beats produced out here have always been the hard style especially with people like zaytoven and his collaborations with metro boomin and groups like 808 mafia. Lil Yachty reminds me of this era's rendition on Andre 3000. He's not as good as Andre but he has the vibe.

as an almost 30 year old, i cant help but to love this kid. i dont get the hate. all his interviews make him EXTREMELY likeable, even if you dont like his music you cant help but root for this kid. he seems like even though he knows hes weird hes comfortable in himself and used what made him insecure and hate school to channel into something to be creative, where as most of us would not do that and try and change. most these other new fake "weirdo" rappers claim that for marketing purposes, where you can actually tell this dude has some sort of social skill problems and is very genuine in it. i love how genuine and honest he is and doesn't come off like trying hard. hes just himself and completely okay with it.
i hope this kid keeps winning. this was honestly one of the most inspiring lil documentaries, interviews.. whatever ive watched in a really long time from a rapper. its very rare as a grown adult you feel inspired by someone 9 years younger than you. thanks Yachty.
