Hey Richard, the picture settings is accessed by pushing the Menu button on the remote, then scrolling down to Picture. Once in the Picture sub-menu you can adjust multiple settings. To be honest, I liked the factory default settings in my room/situation. Hope this helps.
Hey Mark, I watched this set vs. a Samsung side by side with both playing Wimbledon. On the Samsung the tennis ball was "squished" when it traveled across the court and on this set the ball was "round." In addition, the grass was so much more lifelike on this Sony vs. the Samsung. Since taking the set home, I've watched several action movies (Troy, 300, The Pacific) and they all looked fantastic. Sony has a real winner in this TV!
Thanks for the great review. I've ordered this TV in the 50 inch and it was nice to see it in your living room to get an idea of how that size looks. I was already thinking I should have bought the 60 inch but I think the smaller TV will be good enough. Yours looks good in your room. Again, great job on the the review.
It's 120hz but Sony has a processor in it that mimics 240. It includes 4 pair of passive 3D glasses. Since the 3d system is passive, you can get additional glasses by keeping the ones you get at a movie theater.
Hi Michael, Yes I play movie files via USB on mine quite often actually. Since I use a Macbook Pro for editing my videos, their file format is mpeg4 or mov and they play beautifully (much better than even when I play the same videos on my computer). Unfortunately, I don't know what other file formats it will play.
Excellent review. I was on the fence about this one but, you convinced me. I'm going to purchase this t.v. tomorrow. Thanks! Let me know if you have any problems with it.
We're planning on getting the 60 inch version of this Tv, the 55 inch version looks kinda small but it could be just because, we have a 40 inch Sony and its not as big as i thought it was going to be.
Hi Richard, thanks for your compliment. I don't know exactly what you mean by "calibrating" your TV - do you mean picture settings, TV channel setup or something else? I'll be happy to help if I can.
Hi Jayobi nice review. Since you have had your Bravia for some time now can you please tell me if your are happy with the black levels (have you seen it in a dark room) and how is the 3d? thanx.
I have the kdl60r550a and the black levels look perfect. I've tested it by turning the picture off while viewing a screen(turned on) that contained mostly black. I stared at a black area of the screen as the screen went off. There was no change.
Yes, the motion smoothness is freakin excellent. In fact, I've never changed the motion flow setting from standard to high. Not even just out of curiosity. I just don't see the point.
Hi CloudN9N3, The Samsung F8000 is considerably more expensive ... the lowest price I've seen for the 55" is $2,495 vs. $875 I paid for this at my local HH Gregg (I had a $100 off coupon). I am sure the Samsung is a great set, but I am literally blown away by mine, so I couldn't imagine spending almost 3Xs the price for the Sammy. I would rather buy 2 of my set or jump up to my model in either 60" or 70" vs. the Sammy.
great review Jayobi, i plan on buying this tv next week so i have one question, can i play movie files using my usb flash drive? and if so, what formats does this tv support?
Doug, I'm really tempted by this TV, but the only hesitation I have is refresh rate. Have you had a chance to watch any fast paced sports, or action movies and sort of gauge motion smoothness? Is there any blur at all? I'm almost ready to go with plasma as it's reasonably cheaper and has higher refresh rate which should make a difference when watching movies. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Si I bought this tv and have had it for some time about three months now and I have noticed some lines in the side that are kinda colored? Have u had this issue? I think it may be the angel that I'm viewing it at and that it is a edge lit tv compared to the LCD that I had before
GTA V and Wind Waker HD are where I first noticed them. Was watching Wall-E on blu ray and noticed it as well. Was kind of hoping it was just a bad panel and that the exchange would do the trick... I'm really thinking of switching to plasma, but I worry about image retention from my game HUDs.
Im getting mine but it's possible kinda similar to yours but mine is SONY KDL48W600B 48" 1080P LED SMART TV And I will probably will feel the same way as how you are with yours Except that mine is 2 inches less than yours
Yes it does convert 2D to 3D ... as long as the source is fed through an HDMI cable (for example, if you cable/satellite source connect via HDMI). Unfortunately for me, I get my TV channels via antennae so I cannot convert 2D to 3D.
never mess withe diagnostic settings ever unless somethin is wrong. i changed a setting on mine that rendered use of it permently but sony is shipping me a new one for free with a 2 year warranty which is good i guess
Hey Doug, or anyone, what brand is the antenna connected with it? Also... HOW MUCH are people paying for this Sony KDL50R550A? Does KDL50 stand for 50 inch? Thank you everyone!
Thanks 7klown7, they are Energy Encore speakers on Sonos speaker stands - they are fantastic speakers. Ironically, I just replaced them with a Sony CT660 soundbar (I just uploaded the unbox and review of it last night).
I just recently bought one of these. The picture quality is fantastic, however, Sony is already replacing my set because of light leak coming from the side of the panel. I also have noticed some ghosting/blur on light whites and light blues (for instance, skyboxes in video games). Have you noticed any issues like that on your set?
Hi, I'm looking at buying the 70" of this model but am concerned of the 120htz. Do you think there is a difference of one with true 240hz and this sony that has the motionflow 240? From my understanding it is an accelerator that mimics 24o but that kind of sounds like a fake way to go which makes the tv less expensive, Any thoughts?
Hey man! nice video.I got this tv today but for some reason when I plugged it in I couldn't get the clear picture I was expecting. The image looks dull and not that bright. I am using netflix as a source on a 20Mbps connection. I see the movie clear and crisp as expected from Netflix but the colors look too dull. Can you please post your picture settings? I'm sure its the settings that I am missing on..
Just bought this tv today. What are your settings for picture and brightness. Mine seems to dark on most channels and adjusting brightness doesn't really help.
I really want to buy this TV in the 70 inch version, but at the store I saw that the 3D is interleaved, meaning it looks like it has many horizontal lines, I was wondering if this can be annoying or if it doesn't matter much, because I heard the plus of interleaved 3D is that it has passive glasses that don't wait much and also the pop is way bigger than with active glasses. What's your take on it? And also I heard this one has great 2D to 3D conversion, what are your views on this considering you already have this TV?
Thank you, but I decided to buy a projector instead, I saved money and got a much larger screen (125 inch), plus really nice 3D, but I still think the 70 inch is a nice TV Nice review
70inch too big lol ile go with the bog standard 50inch because its the best size Of 50/50 not took big not too small just the right size I want a 8K OLED to be this size
Lol 50inch max lol you don't really need a huge TV I am waiting for a 50inch OLED to be released in a few more years Because the 50inch looks plenty big enough for a cinema screen anyway Why pay £40 or more for a massive screen I rather pay 10k for a OLED 50inch 8k model I don't really want a too big of a screen and a 50inch is just the ticket for my small bedroom
I'm in the market for a new TV but torn between the Sony KDL-50R550A 50" and the Sony KDL60R550A 60". Is there a big difference between the two? I saw the Sony KDL-50R550A in my area for $899.99... any advice would be appreciated.
I'm kinda new to the whole 3D feature, but I'm not sure how to get 3d working with this TV.... Are there certain steps I should do to turn 3D on? Or will certain shows or games or movies have the option to go into 3D. Thanks!
I have a question. I've noticed from day 1 on my kdl60r550a that reds never appear perfectly red. I look at something that I know should be very very red and it never comes out red. It's either too orangish or too soft. I compare it to my old Sony tv and the difference is significant. My old tv shows reds as being as red as can be and then look over at this new tv showing the same thing and nope, never the same. Have I got a defective one or is that just the model?
Dough, First of all i would like to say that you have a great video. I purchased the same size and tv 3 days ago but until now i have a hard time to calibrate it, maybe you could help me calibrating my tv. thanks in advance.
I just got this TV today. Overall very happy. I'm confused about one thing though. On the box it says it's an LED TV, but when you look at the front cover of the manual it says LCD TV. Can anyone explain?
dude the design of your home is like something from 'the last of us'
This TV is great, perfect for watching Blu Ray movies, picture quality is excellent, 3D works perfectly. I'm satisfied with my purchase. :)
Yes, it can be wall mounted. In fact, 2 of the HDMIs and 2 USB connects are on the side for ease of connecting in a wall mount situation.
Hey Richard, the picture settings is accessed by pushing the Menu button on the remote, then scrolling down to Picture. Once in the Picture sub-menu you can adjust multiple settings. To be honest, I liked the factory default settings in my room/situation. Hope this helps.

On Sony's website description, they say that the refresh ratio is 240Hz w/ Motionflow XR.
Looking at it, the picture is great. You've haven't seen it all when you see it in 4K, the downside, not much 4K support as of yet
I've had mine now for several weeks and I STILL TOTALLY LOVE IT!
It's 120hz but Sony has a processor in it that mimics 240. It includes 4 pair of passive 3D glasses. Since the 3d system is passive, you can get additional glasses by keeping the ones you get at a movie theater.
Thanks Zerocells ... You will love this TV. Everyone who sees mine is amazed at the pic quality.
Hi Michael, Yes I play movie files via USB on mine quite often actually. Let me know if you have any problems with it.
I bought this tv and ended up exchanging it for the 55" KDL55W802A it's much sharper and performes better not to mention it's bigger.
You have a beautiful home Doug.
We're planning on getting the 60 inch version of this Tv, the 55 inch version looks kinda small but it could be just because, we have a 40 inch Sony and its not as big as i thought it was going to be.

I have the same TV, Mario Kart 8 is the prettiest thing I've put running on it yet,
Hi Jayobi nice review. Since you have had your Bravia for some time now can you please tell me if your are happy with the black levels (have you seen it in a dark room) and how is the 3d? thanx.
So how's the picture quality? :P I just ordered my soon to be TV, the Sony KLD50W805B. Gonna be a major improvement from my current 8 year old LG. :P
I've always had Sony TV'S. Great picture and reliable!
I have the kdl60r550a and the black levels look perfect. I've tested it by turning the picture off while viewing a screen(turned on) that contained mostly black. I stared at a black area of the screen as the screen went off. There was no change.
Hello, I am considering the 70" version of this model. Are you still liking yours?
Beautiful family room, fireplace btw.
inches: 50" & it includes: wifi inside, smart tv, 3D, 1080p, 120Hz refresh rate, 4 hdmi inputs, and a remote
Yes, the motion smoothness is freakin excellent. In fact, I've never changed the motion flow setting from standard to high. Not even just out of curiosity. I just don't see the point.

great review Jayobi,
i plan on buying this tv next week so i have one question,
can i play movie files using my usb flash drive?
and if so, what formats does this tv support?
I have the same TV that was sitting on the floor in the beginning. :P
Looking to upgrade now.
me too! WTF
Haha!
Picking this up tomorrow. Great review.
the profile is very thin so B careful not to damage it when picking it up :)
I just got mine today, can wait to get home so i can enjoy this!! working third shoft sooo.. but nice review
Doug,

seems like you should have put alittle more scrilla down on like the 65" one or w,e you got a mad nice crib
All LED sets are LCD. It's an LCD that is lit by LEDs.
Can you plz make more in depth videos about this tv like the features and control
We didn't get to see you actually take it out of the box but a tip for everyone else is to open it from the bottom. Too hard to lift out from the top.
Si I bought this tv and have had it for some time about three months now and I have noticed some lines in the side that are kinda colored? Have u had this issue? I think it may be the angel that I'm viewing it at and that it is a edge lit tv compared to the LCD that I had before
Im sold! Going to get this today for $160 cheap

Guessing that Jayobi site didn't take flight huh?
Hey Doug, or anyone, what brand is the antenna connected with it? Also... HOW MUCH are people paying for this Sony KDL50R550A? Does KDL50 stand for 50 inch? Thank you everyone!
Nice Energy Encore 1 speakers. I used to have the same pair.
Thanks 7klown7, they are Energy Encore speakers on Sonos speaker stands - they are fantastic speakers. Ironically, I just replaced them with a Sony CT660 soundbar (I just uploaded the unbox and review of it last night).
I have the same model but after 3 years, it has issues on the screen like black lines.. Fixing the panel cost too much
I just recently bought one of these. The picture quality is fantastic, however, Sony is already replacing my set because of light leak coming from the side of the panel. Where is the speakers? also is it good quality?
Haha nice review!! And Sony is better than Apple, actually the iPhone uses camera's made by Sony. :)
+SymphonicAngel HW and SW are two different things.
+god aaaaaah what?
I mean, they can make cameras for iPhone but still you need good configuration that apple makes
+god yeah but the fact is, Sony makes their camera.
Thanks for the great review!!..you definitely helped me!!
Is it the SONY KDL50W685ABAEP ? Please answer me
Hi Overflow23 -- thanks & yes, I live up at Lake Norman :-)
Just bought this tv today. What are your settings for picture and brightness. Mine seems to dark on most channels and adjusting brightness doesn't really help.
Hey what speakers are those? Very nice!
How do you play it on 1080p cuz mine says 720p. Can you tell me how to change that?

This is the same tv Im looking forward to buying, but I notice you put "120hz"...
I thought it was a 240hz television, and does it include 3D glasses?
Have you tried setting picture mode to vivid. I actually prefer standard unless its a video game.
Did he say his name was Doug Hymen?
I'm in the market for a new TV but torn between the Sony KDL-50R550A 50" and the Sony KDL60R550A 60". Is there a big difference between the two? I saw the Sony KDL-50R550A in my area for $899.99... any advice would be appreciated.
great vid man earned a subscriber
when watch this tv in this video, make me wondering do we really need 4k tv..
Television perfect beautiful!!!!!

Is the 3d Blu-ray good?
nice house dude ¡¡ thanks for the review

Hello Jayobi, does it have PIC (Picture in picture) function?
Hola saben cual es el error 5010 en sony? 😭
I just got this TV today. Overall very happy. I'm confused about one thing though. On the box it says it's an LED TV, but when you look at the front cover of the manual it says LCD TV. Can anyone explain?
great vid man !
Hi Overflow23, I am sorry but I do not know. I got rid of my iPhone for a Samsung Galaxy so I have not tested it with iPhone.
Great buy Doug
Not too much info....... How many inches? What's included
wait waht.... you paid 900 for a 70 inch tv? is this sale still on?
Nice! Wish mine was a 70"er -- enjoy it!
I paid $875US ... it was on sale at HH Gregg for $975 plus I had a $100 off coupon for an item >$499
just ordered this from sony staff sale, can i use wifi to connect to my wifi at home and stream from my nas?
does the tv convert 2d to 3d? like for regular tv channels?

thanks....it looks great
Thanks Eric!
Just received mine 70" :)
