    Wow! now let me say it backwards, WOW! As a flight sim fan, thank you for providing the evidence that this is more (or can be) of a training tool than a video game. This is the first time I have ever sat through and enjoyed, the real process off flipping all switches and check lists that you guys go through to fly these increable aircraft! Thank you so much for your efforts on this. some of us out here know how great this presentation is. Visuals, Audio, and teaching content is top shelf! Congrats!

      Haha! Many thanks indeed, Mark - I’m really glad that you enjoyed the video to such a degree!
      PC flight sims can certainly be great entertainment and also (in my opinion) very useful training tools; to this day, I still enjoy the hobby in both capacities. I love the fact that I can get some sense of many aircraft that I’ll likely never fly (and the more realistically they have been modelled within the sim, the better!).
      My absolute pleasure on the video and many thanks again for the kind words!
      Cheers and all the best : )

      Thanks very much Dave, I’m really glad you enjoyed it!
      Haha well, I come from a pretty similar background; the vast majority of my simming has been with Microsoft sims / P3D. I’ve tried my best to get into X-Plane over the years and always had hit and miss experiences with the platform. I can’t see XP12 taking me away from MSFS but, I really enjoyed the flight, X-Plane is still a little bit better when it comes to flying the heavy jets and I’m sure I’ll continue to dip into the sim from time to time : )

    Nice. I am a pilot and aircraft owner and built a sim mimicking my own aircraft. I chose XPlane over MSFS just for all the hardware integration ease. I also use it for IFR training and am usually in IMC so the ground graphics were not important. However you show some really great scenery. Will try Orbx.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад +2

      Cheers, Ronald. Yes, X-Plane still has a lot of advantages, if one wants to use a sim for real-world IFR training etc. The True Earth scenery is great although, not natively supported in XP12 at this time (you will have to use a little bit of a “hack”, in order to get it to work). I gather Orbx will be updating True Earth GB for XP12, at some point : )

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  10 месяцев назад +2

      That’s a tricky one to call, Gravity haha! If you’re after the best rotary flight modelling, then X-Plane is definitely the sim to go for however, what MSFS lacks in the physics department, it certainly makes up for with the scenery (ideal for flying low and slow, as one would with most helicopters). I do plan on recording some rotary flying in X-Plane at some point, so hopefully that might help you a little more with your decision : )

      @@activex7327 $500? Simheaven is free, autoorthos is free and even if he used some shaders, these are free as well. And in XP you don't really need to spend hundreds of dollars for airport-sceneries, since many of them are good enough and have accurate taxiways and signs. So what addons you see in that video where you talking about that are worth 500$?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  10 месяцев назад

      Hi What If,
      The offline aspect is certainly a big thing for some. MSFS can be cheaper or more expensive than XP, depending on which version of MSFS one chooses to buy. A “subscription” fee is only necessary, if one chooses to use the sim through Xbox Game Pass, rather than purchasing the sim outright.
      I’m not trying to be disagreeable, just clarifying a few things for those who are working their way through the comments section (perhaps trying to decide which sim to purchase : )

    I am somehow amused. So the plane and the world even after tweaks looks like crappolla in 2D and I can bet in VR looks horrible because a whole lot of planes that look awesome in 2D look garbage in VR (like Just Flight Fokker F28 that is horrendous in VR), our host "confesses" that he doesn't fly or know boeing 737 yet... Xplane is super in FM and generally gets a pass?
    I would argue no. Austin should really get his sim up to speed and stop living of of "default" praises.
    My experience with xplane fm was very simple. Took off with the default 172 and pulled right up into a looping... quit...uninstall...
    I am aware that neither msfs or dcs have godlike FM but at least the rest is good enough to give you the impression you are flying. I don't fly for aviation bureaucracy or sequences of errors to deal with heads down in the cockpit. ofc... to each his own...

      Hello Zaelu,
      I certainly wouldn’t say that the sim looks crap; not as pretty as MSFS, undoubtedly but, I still feel that with a lot of tweaking, X-Plane can look “acceptable” and dare I say, even a little bit more photorealistic at times.
      I haven’t flown the 737, no and I prefer to be transparent about that fact. That being said, I have a flown a lot of different aircraft types over the years (including jets of a similar weight / size) and I have at least flown the 737 in a full level-D sim, so I think I have a decent idea of what feels more realistic vs what doesn’t. If you don’t trust my opinion, there are real-world 737 drivers out there, that would attest to the same thing. MSFS has come a long way since it’s release and it’s not a “black and white” competition; for example, I prefer how the Fenix A320 flies, vs the Toliss of Flight Factor Airbus’, I also generally prefer GA flight modelling in MSFS. I still maintain that X-Plane has an edge when it comes to the heavy jets though.
      I’m not looking to stir up an argument. I fancied trying out the IXEG 737 and thought, at the same time, I’d try and demonstrate what X-Plane is capable of. As you say, to each his own! : )
      I hope that clarifies things. All the best!

      Haha, indeed 06L; and that’s fine of course but, it seems as though Austin can be rather reticent to see / admit to any shortfalls where they do exist (arguably to the detriment of X-Plane). I guess I can’t blame him though, the sim is his baby after all haha : P

    Really interesting to see as I'm toying with getting XP12. I know I can trust your content to be impartial on this (never understood all the beef between FS and XP fans!)
    I've spent hours tweaking MSFS to get the graphics how I want them - looks like the same deal with XP12. Part of the joy of modern simming I guess.
    I think MSFS still looks prettier, but XP is better in some important areas: environmental effects, gorgeous cockpit shadows, terrain masking and no horizon line.
    Definitely going to weigh it up against FS24 before making a choice.

    • @JohnMichaelson
      @JohnMichaelson 11 месяцев назад +1

      I like them both, I just don't have the disk space for both. XP12 without hundreds of gigs of downloaded orthophoto ground textures and other scenery just doesn't scratch the low and slow VFR itch for me. If that's a lesser concern and you mostly fly routes in the big planes and dig the procedural aspect I don't see why it has to be a one or the other choice.

      Cheers Roland!
      If MSFS 2024 makes good on its flight modelling promises, then I can’t really say that the hassles associated with getting X-Plane up to scratch will be worth it however, as it stands, what X-Plane lacks in visual fidelity, the sim does generally make up for in other areas. As I hope I demonstrated here, XP12 can still look pretty good, although it does take quite a bit of tweaking and the results are still far more hit-and-miss than anything you would see with MSFS.
      As you say, it turns out one can actually be bipartisan and enjoy both sims for what they have to offer haha. I’ll probably have some more X-Plane coverage at some point and undoubtedly I’ll be covering MSFS 2024 when the time comes ; )

      Hello Steven,
      It really depends what you want from a sim: I think it’s fair to say that in most regards, MSFS is a significantly better platform these days (it’s the sim I spend the vast majority of my time in) however, X-Plane is still generally the better sim when it comes to flight modelling, particularly with regards to the heavy jets, rotary aircraft and anything involving the extremes of the flight envelope. X-Plane also has more accurate airports (correct taxiway designations for example) and a more capable weather engine (in terms of configuration, if not visuals). At this point I am merely playing with the demo to see how it works. Flying with a track ball sucks... Haven't tried to see if my CH yokes work. I like the M3 Studio idea. Read in the forum where someone thinks an M2 Max Studio 12cpu, 38-core GPU, 16-core Neural, 32 gm RAM and I tb SSD would be just fine. Cheap at $2,200, too. But what monitor? I’m sure there are reasons but, one does have to wonder *why* X-Plane doesn’t look closer to this by default. . . Most of the modifications are relatively simple and are really only tweaking default parameters within the sim (using 3rd party tools). From what I have seen / read, Laminar tend to somewhat stubbornly defend the visuals within X-Plane; the sim can look great at times but, there are also some glaring flaws in the lighting etc.

    Is it customary to set flaps before taxi opposed to before take off? When flying my puddle jumpers we keep the flaps up till we are ready for take off, due to what a gust of wind might do, but also to prevent FOD. That cabin sound with the engines going MCT was nice with that fan whine. Sounded very much like what I recall the sound in the cabin being on a 300. The sound in the cockpit is a tad quiet, I would think the fan whine would be very audible as the sound is loudest from the face. This is my first look at Xplane and there is a lot graphically I would love to see in MSFS.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Pythos,
      Yes, it’s standard practice on most commercial jets, so far as I’m aware. One exception, would be when there is snow and / or ice on the taxiways (in that case, the flaps are left retracted until the aircraft is down at the holding point - this minimises the possibility of the flap mechanisms becoming contaminated also).
      The sound settings on the IXEG are a bit weird; the addon overrides the default X-Plane sliders and then the built-in sliders don’t seem to do all that much haha. FTSim have certainly done a nice job with their soundpack though!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  4 месяца назад

      Hello Jeas,
      Broadly speaking, X-Plane is undoubtedly the more “realistic” sim, when it comes to flight dynamics. That being said 1) flight modelling varies significantly from addon to addon and 2) any PC-based sim will have its limitations, when it comes to flight modelling etc. I do prefer X-plane’s flight modelling, especially for the heavy jets and when manoeuvring at the more extreme ends of the flight envelope but otherwise, I don’t find the two sims to be quite as far apart as some people make out (there are a number of MSFS addons that fly quite nicely).
      I hope that helps a little? All the best : )

  • @chopperskier
    @chopperskier 6 месяцев назад +1

    I have been trying to replicate this and I can't even get close! I can't even read the gauges in my sim (Turned up as high as it'll go and still maintain better than 10 FPS (Frames per second), which is essentially medium settings) with a 7900XTX! (I didn't think ANY Graphics card would allow that) If I get the settings even half as high as yours, (ya know, so I can even read the altitude, forget aobut being able to read "Altimeter" on the actual instrument... if so, then the sim stutters to the point of not being usable. I have a 7800X3D/7900XTX with 64G RAM, and I can honestly say, your machine is AT LEAST 2x-3x times the performance of my machine. This tells me, there is NO COMPARISON between the 4090 and the 7900XTX. AMD has no GPU that even comes close to the 4090. (7900XTX can't run VR- A HOST OF ISSUES with AMD) I REALLY REGRET this build, was essentially a waste of $2,500 as it BARELY performs better than my old machine (3600X CPU/RX5700 GPU) : should have gone with an Nvidia setup. If you want quality flight sim, AMD will not provide. Medium settings, the 7900XTX cannot handle Visual XP/ShadeX/etc/etc/etc all stacked on top of each other. EIther that, or it's the limitation of the 7800X3D. Either way, AMD great for FPS (First person shooter)- piss poor for everything else.

    What makes X-PLANE 12 a better simulator than MSFS is it does? what are the advantages

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Luiz,
      Well, for me, X-Plane still offers more “realism” overall. Weather customisation options are more appropriate for IFR training etc, taxiway designations are true to the real-world (unlike most airports in MSFS) and probably most importantly, XP still holds an edge when it comes to flight modelling (at least for the heavy jets, fast jets and rotary aircraft - MSFS’ GA flight modelling is pretty much on a par with X-Plane). Both sim’s have their advantages / disadvantages and both platforms can be used “realistically” but, I find X-Plane is still generally my go-to, when I want to do some more “realistic” flights.
      I hope that helps a little. All the best!

    For starters the rain on x-plane windows puts me off, the raindrops look/behave more like syrup, (a bit too big and too viscous) also they often appear the same way in highish altitude flight while outside clouds. Also some clouds are far less realistic than msfs. This is only my opinion and I am sure it will improve with time.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  10 месяцев назад

      I tend to agree Stephen although, there is something about the rain animation in X-Plane, that rather hits the spot for me (I can’t quite put my finger on it). There are a lot of spurious behaviours with the rain animations in XP12 though; as you say, it will often rain in the sim when it shouldn’t and the animation physics can get quite “confused” (with direction etc) at times also haha. X-Plane is a mixed bag; I find that on limited occasions, the sim can actually look more realistic than MSFS but, MSFS looks consistently great, whereas XP is a bit all over the shop.
      Cheers again!

      Hi Swaggerlot,
      Whilst I can’t say 100%, whether or not X-Plane will suit your needs, I think it’s fair to say that XP is still generally the better / more “realistic” sim, when it comes to flight modelling, more accurate airports (correct taxiway designations for example) and a more capable weather engine (in terms of configuration, if not visuals). For me, X-Plane is definitely the better option, if you want to practice IFR skills etc. Laminar’s platform, is as “simmy” as any PC flight simulator can be. I even bought XP 11 but abandoned the sim altogether after getting a defective disk - the last one in the long loading process. This looks terrific but, as others note, what a shame it is that so much time and effort must be spent to improve the sim. As it is, the learning curve for flying, especially the heavy jets, takes many hours. Add to that the hardware matters, especially if one builds a PC, and then the modding and tuning, and the commitment to high-quality simming is enormous. Props, so to speak, to those who accomplish this. (Autocorrect tried to say “high-quality sinning.” Now there’s a thought.)

PC simming, can indeed be quite a time-consuming and expensive hobby and nothing has really changed in that regard, when it comes to X-Plane 12. MSFS on the other hand, is largely “ready to go” straight out of the box - one of the many reasons why I think the sim has been so successful. As with a lot of hobbyists, I think a lot of flight simmers enjoy the “tweaking”, almost as much as the “flying” haha (historically, you sort of had to).

      As I mentioned during the video, I do think that X-Plane can look pretty great at times however, I find that the sim’s visuals are not without issues (particularly when it comes to lighting - scenes can often be way too dark in XP). I think quite a few people would, KO. I know that Laminar are very proud of their flight modelling and of course, that should always be a priority for a flight simulator but, I think they also need to acknowledge that outdated graphics are now putting a lot of people off their product. Most of the changes I made here were relatively minor so, it shouldn’t be very hard at all, for Laminar to bring XP12 up to a similar native state. I gather graphical improvements are in the works for X-Plane so, hopefully we’ll see some significant improvements going forward : )

      Hi Memory,
      Well, it’s a difficult thing to quantify haha. X-Plane can look “better” than MSFS under specific circumstances but 1) it takes a lot more tweaking / modding, 2) XP’s graphical fidelity is a lot less consistent and 3) there are fairly specific conditions under which one can achieve this sort of effect within the sim (ie a narrow time window, outside of which the sim tends to look overexposed with the mods I was using, or otherwise look too dark).
      So yes, I’m going to stick to my guns on that one haha. X-Plane 12 can look great but, all things being equal, one is going to have a more consistent experience with MSFS overall, I would say. It’s horses for courses though; I like both sims and plan on continuing to use both of them also.
      I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )

    • @memorycl
      @memorycl 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes it does take more modding and 3rd party scenery, but when done correctly I find it is consistently better looking. There's something cartoonish about 2020 scenery. Not to mention the jumbled mess of getting too close to the photogrammetry.
      XP looks more crisp and clear to me. You likely call it photorealistic. I've heard a dev say XP's gfx engine is more unforgiving in the texturing side of things. This is what the vast majority of folks tend to call 'graphical fidelity'. XP is certainly capable of that. Just need more 3rd parties to spend the effort to get there. Your vid does show that well. Keep them coming!

    How would you compare the xplane 12 ga aircraft to the commanche 250 in msfs? is it on the same level or does the a2a commanche feel better to handle, I noticed when I came into xplane 12 in the demo that the landings felt more on point and realistic than microsoft flight simulator for some reason.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Pixels,
      To be honest, I couldn’t really answer that question fairly, as I’ve never owned any high fidelity GA aircraft for X-Plane. I’ve never much cared for the default GA aircraft in XP, finding them to be overly sensitive, a little bit “on rails” and demonstrating some peculiar ground handling characteristics (that’s not to say that there aren’t some good aspects / aircraft also). That being said, I hear / I’m sure that there are some great payware options out there for the sim, which I’d imagine do stack up well against the A2A Comanche. For me, X-Plane has always felt better when it comes to the heavy jets; MSFS certainly has its issue but, A2A have done a great job of working around quite a few of them.
      Sorry for that pretty non-committal answer haha. Ultimately, I think the conclusion would really vary from addon to addon.

      Hi Echo,
      I’m no expert on the 737 but, I think that might actually be accurate (and I seem to recall that it’s the same logic on other simulated versions of the Classic that I’ve tried). It’s probably a hangover from the 737-100 / 200 (where IRS’ weren’t fitted of course) and something that Boeing only changed with the design of the NG.

As a result, default X-Plane doesn’t look that great (as least as far as the scenery goes) but, payware / freeware scenery can be downloaded, to help redress the balance somewhat (as I did here). Both sims use real-world weather data for their weather engines but, I’m not sure whether they use the same data sources (I don’t believe they do).
      I hope that clarifies things a little further. All the best! : )

    It's funny that nobody has complained about missing EFB yet :)

      Haha. Is that in reference to PMDG, or did the IXEG come with a tablet in X-Plane 11 (I don’t recall)? Either way, it would actually be a nice feature to have haha.

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations I have never had IXEG, neither in XP11 or 12, so it’s in reference to PMDG. For some reason a lot of people were getting mad at PMDG saying like they cannot live without it, every aircraft must have the tablet, period 😂 It turns out that it is totally fine for another payware 737 which is even more expensive, that is what I mean.

      Haha well, it’s a very fair point, Echo. I do think PMDG could have handled the tablet “situation” a little bit better (people were waiting a long time) but, an EFB is an ancillary item at the end of the day and the 737 was still more than flyable without it. It seems to have become a bit “trendy” to rag on PMDG but, they’re still producing some of the best addons for the sim and I doubt most of the vitriol is really heartfelt.

    Hello, I bought Bend RTX 4090 motherboard, i7 processor, 14700, 32 RAM memory and 2TB SDD. It gives 17fps on xplane 12, what should I do?

      Hi Cevizkabugu,
      Hmmm, that’s very strange. I don’t know why you’re getting such low FPS, with a similar setup to my own (I get around 70fps, in a default aircraft). I do have a setup guide for X-Plane - I don’t know whether that might be of some help: ruclips.net/video/KoQ-pRXxw-s/видео.htmlsi=IqosXBPfGfNngxYR
      I do hope you manage to get things sorted. All the best!

    Why did IXEG use -700 engine sounds on the -300? They have a totally different sound than the -700

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Dreyes,
      Well, the particular soundset featured in this video, was actually created by FTSim; I’m not sure whether the default IXEG engine sounds are the same (certainly the start sounds are different). I guess the NG is far more accessible in terms of recording and IXEG probably figured most plebs, like me, wouldn’t be able to tell the defence haha. It’s a shame if they have used the wrong engine sounds for the addon though (especially given it’s pricing). . .
      Cheers, all the best! : )

    The rain looked terrible and was very badly done. The same amount of water hitting each side of the flight deck windows and at times moving in the wrong direction. Wipers moving over rain and not clearing the screen. If you're going to do it, do it properly or not at all.
