As the person who was born and lives in Kazakhstan, when I saw this manga for the first time and read its description, I thought it was some very interesting fantasy story. But the very moment I saw steppe, characters' names and clothes, my face went 😮
And ain't gonna lie, I learned a lot about the culture of people who lived before us, and left us some of their legacy from this manga. A way more then I am doing in school, local communities and etc. Also, the other thing that makes this manga even better, is that it doesn't have to be about "Kazakhs", it's not about "Uyghurs", "Uzbeks", "Tatars", "Persians" and others. It's about the culture of the whole Central Asian (and upclose to it) territories. And believe me, it is a very rare, but, indeed, the treasure to find. However, this is an additional (yet golden) magic of this art. If to go to main parts, YES, GOD, do I love all characters, their relationships between each other, drama, plot, the how story is going and presented, and, of course, OH MY GOD, THE GRAPHICS, DO THEY SLAYYY???? Like it's not just good or amazing, it's wonderful and very expressive. Even if you would take out all the dialogues out of the manga (not just in hunting and action scenes), the storytelling won't be butchered in any way, cuz panels of the manga, their beats and flow, character designs, expressions and backgrounds, patterns all of them already do tell the story. This is amazing. My deepest gratitude and love for Mori Kaoru and you for letting more people to find out about this wonderful art! Saying that not as the person with the connection to Turkic culture, but rather as a fellow reader. This is as we say quite often in post-soviet region "the immortal art"
P.S. We need a whole new hashtag for Karluk's Grandma, because, oh, boy, is she the Goddess????

Amira's family is based on the Kazakhs, Karluk's family is Uzbek/Uyghur, Talas is Karakalpak and the twins are Tajik.
During his journey to Ankara, mr Smith is accompanied by a Turk and they cross paths with a Chechen man on vendetta (IRL Caucasian social phenomenon of revenge). On the way back from Ankara, mr Smith is also accompanied by a Crimean Tatar man.

    Greetings from Kazakhstan🙌
Amira is a girl from the Kazakh tribe, and Karluk is most likely an Uzbek.
You can watch the documentary - The Eagle Huntress (2016) - about a 13-year-old Kazakh girl - Aisholpan Nurgaiv, who became a hunter with a golden eagle.
Also, if you are interested in nomadic culture of central Asia, I advise you to watch the movies -
    1)Tomiris (2019)
2)Myn Bala: Warriors of the Steppe (2012)
    3)Nomad: The Warrior (2005)

I am Uzbek-Norwegian, and when I read this manga, I can only weep for us. Central Asia is beautiful yet tragic. When this was set, it happens during the Russian invasion of Central Asia. This manga has greatly reinforced my sympathy for Ukraine.

I've been following the series for about 5 years now and it just never gets old. Each and every time I find the new volume at the store it's one of the highlights of the year. I'm an artist myself, going to study architechture in university later this year and the art in this has been a massive inspiration for me. The cultures depicted are also something I knew absolutely nothing about before so it's been great to learn from. Overall would definitely recommend for anyone that's a lover of art, culture and/or history.

Wow, I loved reading your thoughts on the series and how it's impacted you. It's wonderful how the art has been a consistent source of inspiration and joy for you over the past 5 years. 😊
I completely relate to your comment about the manga introducing and educating you on different cultures! I was in the same boat, and it's truly an incredible experience when a series introduces us to cultures that were previously unfamiliar to us. I think that's one reason why I started reading manga; I enjoyed learning about Japanese culture and tradition. (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

The one thing they slipped up on was translation of some of the character names, but it's understandable, since there's not really any distinction between "r" and "l" in Japanese. The MC's name is Amira, not Amir.

Emma by Kaoru Mori was recently reprinted if you're interested in grabbing some more of her work. (: I just hauled the first 3 volumes in my November haul and they look stunning. I haven't read them yet, but it looks and sounds very promising! 👀
A Bride's Story is definitely in my top favourites for Seinen manga, I just wish we didn't have to wait a year for each volume. Mind you, you can't rush art. lol Thank you for your kind words and for watching my review. I hope you have an awesome weekend! :D

This is such an AMAZING review!!! 🤩 You hit the mail on the head! It’s such a beautiful series all around. Amir is literally best girl 🙌🏾! I’m glad you mentioned how long the series has been out because I’m SO SURPRISED Yen press still has all volumes in print 🤯. The level of research that went into this series is just top tier. And you’re right! All the cultural aspects are presented in an unbiased way; it’s not about agreeing or disagreeing with certain aspects, so much as getting to immerse yourself in a place and time the reader probably has no prior experience with. Even just following the other brides opens up a whole new world. I’m so glad I gave this series a chance because it’s been one of my manga reading highlights of 2021 ☺️!
UGHHHHH I just can’t get over how amazing you’re review is💖💖💖!!! Well done 🙌🏾!!

Now, if they decided to bring back Emma, I'd be the happiest girl on the planet lol And I'm totally with you, this is one of the best series I read in 2021 as well!! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

The cultures are romanticized though since women weren't really allowed to express themselves that freely. There were also heavily enforced societal pressures for men.

You would never guess that she's been working on A Bride's Story since 2008. 😳 The next volume is out in September; only a couple months to go! 🥳

There is definitely an LGBT romance going on between that bride and the other one with the huge breasts. I liked that arc a lot. I also like how the manga subverts gender norms and how the women are doing most of the badass stuff. They don't do anything too over the top where it would come off as forced. I also like how there's lady fanservice with Azel with his ripped exposed body.
