I know I'm a bit late to the party but I wanted to point out that, except in rare cases, the Tiffin and Winnebago class A's have fiberglass roofs and are sealed with self-leveling silicone sealant rather than Dicor. If you use Dicor, it will not properly stick to the original silicone sealant and you will find that you can just peel it off by hand...and that means it's not sticking well enough to do what it is supposed to do and water can get underneath it. Please check your owner's manual or check with your manufacturer to find out what type of sealant you should be using on your rig. Once the anodes removed turn the water back on so it will blow out some of the trash, by using the hose blowing in your just pushing it the trash to the back of the tank. Use a couple of bread ties on that filter handle, no cable ties needed. If your Teflon taping a fitting, hold the part in your left hand and start wrapping from the bottom, better yet use Teflon pipe dope.
They make an hose attachment that sticks in the water heater that may do a better job of flushing the calcium. Shoots at an angle to get corners.. Another suggestion you might check for lint inside the dryer hose, and periodically clean the hose. My son, who can’t screw a nut on a bolt, moved out of a rental after buying a house. A month later the rental caught fire from lint left in the dryer hose.
Good job Phil. You can get a small hose that you attach to your vacuum to help clean out your dryer vent and where the filter goes. If you have a shop vac it will work at taking calcium out of water heater as well when you replace anode rod. The only thing I saw that you do not need to do is use teflon tape on your water filter as those should all be garden hose threads that seal with a washer, but check the washers to make sure there not drying out and cracking. Yep ithappens all the time at the store, that's why I thought I would point it out. If doesn't hurt anything other than could loosen easier from vibration. You guys a doing a great job and it's fun to watch.
Pretty good maintenance routine. If we all took the time to check those little things, we would catch problems when they are manageable and relatively inexpensive to repair. I don't understand how people pay so much money for a rig and then just sit back and count on the rig to take care of them without doing any maintenance. That dry lube is one of the best things to use on the rig. The more you do now and on your own the less you will have to worry about in the future. Great job Phil. I love the 3 in 1 products as well however, I lube the slides every 6 months. I also check my roof 4 times a year. When I pull the vent covers, I also clean the fan blades and give the motor a spray of oil. I put the in-line filter on the other end of the hose. I change my generator oil yearly or 150 hrs. I believe all auto parts stores are required to take used oil. Walmart may take it also.

13:25 FYI: you're using the pliers backward if you turn the head around the angle on them will help you get a better grip. 15:25 and 16:28 using only one wrench like that puts a lot of extra pressure on your Pex hoses and fittings, you'd be much better off if you held the top with your crescent wrench. 17:04 I've never heard of an auto parts store charging someone for dumping waste oil. IIRC, if they sell oil, they have to take it back free of charge.
Helpful tip for anyone trying to clean out that area where the lint filter goes into. Take a paint spray cap (one that will fit over the end of the hose for your vacuum), then glue a 18" piece of 1/2" rigid poly pipe into the cap. You can then use that adapter to reach far deeper in the vent area to get even more lint. As a bonus, it works wonderful beside the seats in your car and the center console to get anything that has dropped into that area!
Noticed some key equipment. Ladder, short stool, KNEE PAD, and lots of rags! Nice to see using a PMS type approach. Tempted to build an MRC deck or an RVOSS! Hoping to get my RVWS badge soon! Great video! 👍👍

First and foremost, Thank You for Your Service. My Father served in the Navy in WWII. When you applied the teflon tape you put it on backwards. Yes, it does make a difference which way it is applied. I was a Tool & Die Maker for over 40 years. I've inserted literally thousands of water plugs over the years. Had I put the tape on like you did (backwards), the result would of been a lot of leaks. I really enjoy your videos. You are a lovely couple. You two are living the dream. Be well. :)
Very good video, very detailed. One suggestion with blue water filter is to run water through before connecting to RV to flush black carbon dust out (That could be why the other filter is so dark).

This video was very timely. Our 1st year anniversary is in a little over a month. Last week I changed the water filters. I went through the same decision process with changing the oil on the generator. We are also scheduling the annual maintenance on for the engine to get the oil changed. While we have driven less than the miles, it is a year. The rest of the items you went through are now on my list to be performed in the next week. Based on this video I plan to pick up the 3-IN-One products for the maintenance.
Glad we could offer some help. We did our maintenance last year in Red Bay way ahead of schedule. I knocked out the items over the course of a few days to break it up.
Great maintenance regiment, I would buy a unit you trade in any day. By the way I'm the one who's class A was stuck just like yours. I put the jacks down but had to also Jack up the rear axle to get boards under the tires. Used a tractor for a gentle pull and she came right out. Thanks for that video with all the tips on getting yours out, it helped me a bunch... lunch is on me if we meet up on the road!
After a 10,000 mile rambling trip, I'm repairing what is needed, getting ready to go again ! I do most of the repairs/upgrades myself ! Check RV Bearings is a must !
You need to add to your chassis maintenance schedule to replace annually the desiccant air filter for the air brake, air suspension and air horn system which removes moisture from that system. It looks like a big oil filter. This is often overlooked but should be done annually.

Phil, did you forget to flush the new blue filter out before using it in the coach. On your sliding windows, check the bottom track for drain holes to the outside and make sure they stay open. If they clog up you can get water down your inside wall and floor. Also, do you use tire covers? Highly recommend you get a set. Safe travels.
He did forget! He usually does that but every time I put that camera in his face he gets nervous!. Thanks for the tip on the window as that has happened to us. Yes, we do have tire covers but had removed them in preps to head out.

You've forgot to check furnace filter and intake a/c register filter. Plus, inspect propane hose line too with a sprayer in soap and water to check for gas leak bubbling. I used have travel trailer for 13 years but no more.
Good that you show the proper placement of hose water filter. Most often I see RV'ers connect the filter to hose bib instead of at the entrance connect on RV. When filter is connected at hose bib the clean water could be passing through a dirty hose. I wonder how many RV'ers realize they should also clean their hoses with bleach like they should do with the fresh water tank and inside plumbing. I also use a 90 degree hose connector at RV water entrance to help lessen the weight pressure.
Thanks American RV Traveler. I didn't always have it on the RV side. I originally changed the location for ease of breakdown and set up.....and soon realized that I actually was not getting the sitting hose water when stored.

Great video. We are first time motorhome owners just bought a 2002 Alfa a week ago. I have been watching loads of your video's trying to learn as much a possible and this one is awesome.
Great video. You keep your roof and slide toppers very clean. I have the same main water filter. I found using Vaseline on the threads and O-ring helps with the seal and it is easer to install and remove.
Nice job. I enjoy these kinds of videos, they're helpful and you can almost always pick up one more useful tip in each one. As a note, RV Geeks put our a few maintenance oriented videos and in one of them they addressed lubrication of the rubber strips along the sides of the slides. My recollection is they used baby powder along the inside of those strips with the idea that the powder provides the same kind of benefit that a liquid lubricant would, but is not a liquid. They also suggested that it is wise to avoid lubricants with a petroleum base because petroleum breaks down rubber. Love your videos! Happy travels!

I am an older gal, fulltime.......some things can I do and some things, I have to pay to have done! Just FYI the max air vent that you use over your fantastic fan can cause an issue because it’s too small for the amount of air the fantastic fan displaces. What happened to me was the fantastic fan motor gave out twice before my friend told me to get the vent cover made for the fantastic fan.

Hey! That was a really well explanation of some maintenance. A lot of videos aren't nearly that informative and understandable.... 5 stars! Please follow up on the slide-out "shim" or whatever that was. Curious to know if you have to go back to Tiffin or if there is another fix. I just retired after 36 years in the fire service and thinking seriously about hitting the road for a few years or until/if I get tired of it. Just trying to decide what kind of rig I really "want" and/or need. Keep those videos coming!
You were talking about changing oil in your generator and having to deal with the waste oil and filter. I worked for Wal-Mart for 22yrs in Mississippi and if there is a Automotive Center that does tires and oil at a Wal-Mart nearest you then you can drop off your waste oil and filter at no charge. That's if they haven't changed policy.
Great info as always. I won’t be getting a Class A, but watching the things you pay attention to will give me a good starting point for a Maintenance list for my TT with slides, etc. I appreciate your time and attention to detail to create great videos and as always, the outtakes are entertaining too. Btw Ruby is a beauty!
Thanks for a great video Phil. Your rig is super clean. I have a 2017 Allegro Red and I learned a few tips & techniques from watching. I would suggest that the smoke detectors and LP/CO detector gets tested monthly. Also, don't forget to lubricate the fire escape Windows to ensure they hinge open not just slide open. Thank you for all the info i did learn a lot! Please check the actual dryer vent tubing... we had a dryer fire from built up lint in a bend in the hose.... either reach in the tube snd clean out or vacuum or use a special dryer vent brush. .. better safe than sorry
@@todayissomeday yes it was crazy but thank goodness I was in the kitchen and smelled the smoke or I would have lost my house... now I clean it every month but we do laundry daily so we need to lol

I’am 5’5 and our ceiling is 9 feet in our Teton 5Th wheel , I need a step latter to clean the return filters . We do it about every 60 days or if they look dirty.
Thanks for this. We bought a 5r that's a year old and it made me think I should actually go through the annual list I'm putting together. You may have done it but be sure to check your house water filter casing is water tight before zip tieing the wrench.
You need to flush the blue water filter before connecting it to the rig. New blue filter will have a lot of loose carbon you do not want in the water system.

Great job Phil, especially on the water heater, those ar often over looked and can potentially turn into a bomb, and the clothes dryer vent is another MUST, lint can reach combustion temps and burn for quite sometime without the occupant knowing it. Thanks for sharing! Regards, Eric Dee
Back to Red Bay Alabama... That slide disc will be a problem.. The slide must be crooked or have pressure on that side.. (sometimes depending on the weight inside).. But anyway.. That slide will have to come out.. That is the big deal. No way to repair it.. Unless they fiberglass/superglue/etc. it back in place and tell you your good to go.. There is a reason why the screws sheared off and where are they? and if left un repaired/unbalanced will warp the slide.. (also dependent on the weight of the slide and the structural (box) stability of it.. Look for stress cracks at the top and bottom corners of the slide, inside and out.. Tile maybe cracked etc. Look for marks on the slide bottom and top for unbalanced sliding wear.. That side trim rain gutter topper piece may be pushed out from that,,, The part you put the silicon on.. And something interesting we found on a Brand New Tiffin Zephyr.. The top inside middle trim (cornice squares) on the slides. Both of them.. Had like 3-4 inch screws holding them on and sticking out the inside of the inner top of the slide.. SO. when the slide went out. the long screws would impact the top inner rubber seal and punching holes in it and dislodging the seal.. You will have to get to the end of the slide when it is in or partially out and look on top to see the inner seal and top of the actual slide to notice this.. of course from the inside of the coach.. There was a few more (quality control) problems etc. we found in a hours time . enough that the Brand new Bus is going back to Red Bay for repairs. and the owner is not happy..
Thanks Captain Sam. I have already spoken with some folks about the repair and looks like a trip back to Red Bay is in order. I will give the slide a good once over after each in and out to make sure we are still solid. I would not expect that issue on a Zephyr!

Great video, as usual. Very informative in a relaxed way, a real plus. The "bubble gum" on that tire looks just like that, since it was so surface looking I don't think it's an issue. If it was more deep it might be. Maybe Tiffin has an alignment program, if you are having an issue there. Much more important to check out than the "bubble gum". Hearing heard about Tiffin's great reputation, they might not even charge you for the inspection, just the alignment, if it's needed. Regardless, have them check it out, if only for the peace of mind. Jayman...

It may be that you just didn't show it but you should know that you always want to run water thru your blue filter before hooking uo to your coach. you will notice when you do this that you willl get black water for a couple seconds.

I liked the map of the United States tucked inside the side of the slide. That is a lot of extra room that few think about utilizing. We have our College logo displayed there,. Are you placing the state inserts in the map as you travel through them? We have considered placing decals from various Point of Interests on one side of the slide.

When you applied the teflon tape you put it on backwards. Yes, it does make a difference which way it is applied. I was a Tool & Die Maker for over 40 years. I've inserted literally thousands of water plugs over the years. Had I put the tape on like you did (backwards), the result would of been a lot of leaks.

Very good video, very detailed. One suggestion with blue water filter is to run water through before connecting to RV to flush black carbon dust out (That could be why the other filter is so dark).

This video was very timely. Our 1st year anniversary is in a little over a month. Last week I changed the water filters. I went through the same decision process with changing the oil on the generator. We are also scheduling the annual maintenance on for the engine to get the oil changed. While we have driven less than the miles, it is a year. The rest of the items you went through are now on my list to be performed in the next week. Based on this video I plan to pick up the 3-IN-One products for the maintenance.
Glad we could offer some help. We did our maintenance last year in Red Bay way ahead of schedule. I knocked out the items over the course of a few days to break it up.
Great maintenance regiment, I would buy a unit you trade in any day. By the way I'm the one who's class A was stuck just like yours. I put the jacks down but had to also Jack up the rear axle to get boards under the tires. Used a tractor for a gentle pull and she came right out. Thanks for that video with all the tips on getting yours out, it helped me a bunch... lunch is on me if we meet up on the road!

The place you screwed the water filter too, check the seal inside there also. (typical garden hose seal)

You need to add to your chassis maintenance schedule to replace annually the desiccant air filter for the air brake, air suspension and air horn system which removes moisture from that system. It looks like a big oil filter. This is often overlooked but should be done annually.
We had that done at the 30,000 mile tune up. It is in our first Tiffin visit video.

Phil, did you forget to flush the new blue filter out before using it in the coach. On your sliding windows, check the bottom track for drain holes to the outside and make sure they stay open. If they clog up you can get water down your inside wall and floor. Also, do you use tire covers? Highly recommend you get a set. Safe travels.
He did forget! He usually does that but every time I put that camera in his face he gets nervous!. Thanks for the tip on the window as that has happened to us. Yes, we do have tire covers but had removed them in preps to head out.

You've forgot to check furnace filter and intake a/c register filter. Plus, inspect propane hose line too with a sprayer in soap and water to check for gas leak bubbling. I used have travel trailer for 13 years but no more.

Good that you show the proper placement of hose water filter. Most often I see RV'ers connect the filter to hose bib instead of at the entrance connect on RV. When filter is connected at hose bib the clean water could be passing through a dirty hose. I wonder how many RV'ers realize they should also clean their hoses with bleach like they should do with the fresh water tank and inside plumbing. I also use a 90 degree hose connector at RV water entrance to help lessen the weight pressure.
Thanks American RV Traveler. I didn't always have it on the RV side. I originally changed the location for ease of breakdown and set up.....and soon realized that I actually was not getting the sitting hose water when stored.
I've never paid to dispose of oil. I just put it in a container and placed it on the loading dock behind Autozone, with everyone else.
We haven't either. But, would recommend taking it in and asking to dump it....we have never been turned away.

Great video. You keep your roof and slide toppers very clean. I have the same main water filter. I found using Vaseline on the threads and O-ring helps with the seal and it is easer to install and remove.

Nice job. I enjoy these kinds of videos, they're helpful and you can almost always pick up one more useful tip in each one. As a note, RV Geeks put our a few maintenance oriented videos and in one of them they addressed lubrication of the rubber strips along the sides of the slides. My recollection is they used baby powder along the inside of those strips with the idea that the powder provides the same kind of benefit that a liquid lubricant would, but is not a liquid. They also suggested that it is wise to avoid lubricants with a petroleum base because petroleum breaks down rubber. Love your videos! Happy travels!

Just FYI the max air vent that you use over your fantastic fan can cause an issue because it’s too small for the amount of air the fantastic fan displaces. What happened to me was the fantastic fan motor gave out twice before my friend told me to get the vent cover made for the fantastic fan.

Hey! That was a really well explanation of some maintenance. A lot of videos aren't nearly that informative and understandable.... 5 stars! Please follow up on the slide-out "shim" or whatever that was. Curious to know if you have to go back to Tiffin or if there is another fix. I just retired after 36 years in the fire service and thinking seriously about hitting the road for a few years or until/if I get tired of it. Just trying to decide what kind of rig I really "want" and/or need. Keep those videos coming!
You were talking about changing oil in your generator and having to deal with the waste oil and filter. I worked for Wal-Mart for 22yrs in Mississippi and if there is a Automotive Center that does tires and oil at a Wal-Mart nearest you then you can drop off your waste oil and filter at no charge. That's if they haven't changed policy.

Thanks for a great video Phil. Your rig is super clean. I have a 2017 Allegro Red and I learned a few tips & techniques from watching. I would suggest that the smoke detectors and LP/CO detector gets tested monthly. Also, don't forget to lubricate the fire escape Windows to ensure they hinge open not just slide open. Again, thanks for sharing!

Please check the actual dryer vent tubing... we had a dryer fire from built up lint in a bend in the hose.... either reach in the tube snd clean out or vacuum or use a special dryer vent brush. .. better safe than sorry

I’am 5’5 and our ceiling is 9 feet in our Teton 5Th wheel , I need a step latter to clean the return filters . We do it about every 60 days or if they look dirty.

You need to flush the blue water filter before connecting it to the rig. New blue filter will have a lot of loose carbon you do not want in the water system.

Great job Phil, especially on the water heater, those ar often over looked and can potentially turn into a bomb, and the clothes dryer vent is another MUST, lint can reach combustion temps and burn for quite sometime without the occupant knowing it.

Back to Red Bay Alabama... That slide disc will be a problem.. The slide must be crooked or have pressure on that side.. (sometimes depending on the weight inside).. But anyway.. That slide will have to come out.. That is the big deal. No way to repair it.. Unless they fiberglass/superglue/etc. it back in place and tell you your good to go.. There is a reason why the screws sheared off and where are they? and if left un repaired/unbalanced will warp the slide.. (also dependent on the weight of the slide and the structural (box) stability of it.. Look for stress cracks at the top and bottom corners of the slide, inside and out.. Tile maybe cracked etc. Look for marks on the slide bottom and top for unbalanced sliding wear.. That side trim rain gutter topper piece may be pushed out from that,,, The part you put the silicon on..
And something interesting we found on a Brand New Tiffin Zephyr.. The top inside middle trim (cornice squares) on the slides. Both of them.. Had like 3-4 inch screws holding them on and sticking out the inside of the inner top of the slide.. SO. when the slide went out. the long screws would impact the top inner rubber seal and punching holes in it and dislodging the seal.. You will have to get to the end of the slide when it is in or partially out and look on top to see the inner seal and top of the actual slide to notice this.. of course from the inside of the coach.. There was a few more (quality control) problems etc. we found in a hours time . enough that the Brand new Bus is going back to Red Bay for repairs. and the owner is not happy..

Great video, as usual. Very informative in a relaxed way, a real plus. The "bubble gum" on that tire looks just like that, since it was so surface looking I don't think it's an issue. If it was more deep it might be. Maybe Tiffin has an alignment program, if you are having an issue there. Much more important to check out than the "bubble gum". Hearing heard about Tiffin's great reputation, they might not even charge you for the inspection, just the alignment, if it's needed. Regardless, have them check it out, if only for the peace of mind. Jayman...
It was more like paper as it did peel off later. Tiffin has great service, one of the reasons we went with a Tiffin.

It may be that you just didn't show it but you should know that you always want to run water thru your blue filter before hooking uo to your coach. you will notice when you do this that you willl get black water for a couple seconds.

I liked the map of the United States tucked inside the side of the slide. That is a lot of extra room that few think about utilizing. We have our College logo displayed there,. Are you placing the state inserts in the map as you travel through them? We have considered placing decals from various Point of Interests on one side of the slide.
