    The interest comes from the multi layers. It seems like synth makers are going for this a lot not. Moog One, has 3 layers, 3 synths in 1. Nord Wave 2, 4 layers. Korg Wave State, 4 layers...You can create amazing sounds with 3-4 layers on almost any synth that has separate effects for each layer. The virtual analog part of this synth's sound is a big part of what makes it so attractive. Not only do you have the wave table, but you have this very good analog sound with the analog filter.

      That’s what was/is great about the Kurzweil K series last few operating system releases. Thirty two layers with the drum programs. Easily used for samples and waves. Add FUN’s and sky’s the limit. I imagine the VAST would be great with a better sampling rate and the headroom it provides

      Yes, true. With a good computer avec some ridiculously cheap vsts I can layer untill ... a lot of sounds and work to get thick sounds like that. The limitation is the quality of the audio chain output. The result is greatly sufficient to me.

    I enjoyed your playing. Thanks for sharing!
    For anyone interested in the 3rd Wave who doesn't have room for another full size keyboard, I'll note that the desktop version is still very knobby and quite well thought out. Inputs and outputs are identical between the keyboard and desktop version. The desktop version will save you ~$1500 as well. Happy music making!

    • @davlippo7
      @davlippo7 6 месяцев назад +1

      Looks like the desktop has a better screen but can't tell. Only has half the knobs so not sure how it can compare in UI. Typically the interface stays the same like on the Oberheim. Why did they eliminate all the interfacing unless the screen is more advanced but can't tell. Something is amiss if half the controls are gone and so are the keys and it's only $1,500 less. Seems like half the synth is missing. Just because the keys have been removed everything else should remain. Only 41 knobs verses 76 not including the buttons. That's not a good deal.

      @@davlippo7I have the desktop and the workflow is really fast and good on it. Not saying that it is as good as the keyboardversion, but close (tried it). Imo they did an excellent work to fit as much as possible on the desktopversion. About pricing. I believe that it’s the internal that costs most money. The desktop has everything that the keyboard have inside it. Hope you could try it for yourself. 😊

      @SteveMayzak 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@P-S-T I second this. Have the desktop version, UI and Workflow are top notch for a desktop. Paired with an Osmose for MPE control and it's heavenly.

      You are absolutely right, I had a Wavestation as well and still have a Wavestation in rack and now the 3rd Wave! And indeed some of the moving sounds you can make with this instrument ressemble a lot to the Wavestation. One huge advantage of the 3rd Wave is the ease of programming !

    Man I hate saying this but I'm going to say it: this sounds better than my OB-X8...27:34 is a better example of that patch than I'd even be able to tease out of the OB. Add the beautiful fx, multi timbrality, a sequencer, huge mod matrix and 24 voices for the same money? A compelling case. As for my Hydrasynth Deluxe, that's probably going up for sale this weekend...seems like there may be some blue in my future...nice demo!

      I am trying hard to decide between the OBX8 and 3rd Wave. Biggest off putting thing for me re the OBX8 is price considering it does bi timbrality really bad. It more ment for layers than 2 separate sounds. Thats way to expensive per part for me.

    So many great sounds in this demo. Would be a great board for someone wanting a synth that can do massive amounts of sound design that can sound digital and analogue, or both at the same time. Certainly wouldn’t recommend it for a beginner or early synth enthusiast since the learning curve is a 90 degree angle straight upwards.

      I have the Hydrasynth Deluxe. Ribbon controller is cool but I haven't found a ton of practical application for it (probably because I've never had a synth with this feature and am just not used to using it. I usually forget it's there!)

    • @bobneumann9781

      Gary Wright used a ribbon controller on his Poymoog on the Touch and Gone album. Hard to describe unless you hear it. Actually on the title track solo he just does some slides but there is another track called "Night Ride" which is more of a polysynth guitar solo that he does with the ribbon controller. Unbelievable. @@skysavvydrone

      @@KirkMonteux UPDATE: Starting production on it now. If you want an idea for how it's structured, I should have a video on my channel called "beatmania THE SAMPLES". I have one question though, some of this gear, we have no way of obtaining it. We provide a demo of how it sounds on it's own, then show the song, cant do that if theres no way to emulate it :(. so, by any chance, do you still have the gear or midis? could check the patches? Specifically for the MKS-50, Proteus/1, SE-1, JD-800. and Moog Prodigy (ik Prodigy doesn't have patches but good luck finding anything from Moog in the 80s). That would mean a lot! not implementing PA keyb was a huge mistake. I think thats also the reason module has been realesed so fast. Still im wondering if half the knobs on module make the control the same as kbed unit. I guess not so why have they did that? the most expensive parts are internals not control board with knobs?

      Using an external keyboard with PolyAT (and more, with the Osmose) should mean that one could save a lot of money buying the module version of the 3rd Wave rather than the keyboard version. Are the module and the keyboard versions the same except for the presence or absence of the keyboard?

    • @KirkMonteux
      @KirkMonteux  7 месяцев назад +3

    • @Ribbonium
      @Ribbonium 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@KirkMonteux Yes, I have the same experience. For sound design and real-time tweaking, it's much more convenient to have the built-in keyboard right in front of you.
      I love what I've heard of this synth, enough to even consider buying at the high price point. However, I use various scale tunings in my music, such as Just Intonation. The 3rd Wave, as it is now, can't tune the scale. However, Groove Synthesis has assured me that this feature is coming -- not in the next update, but in the one following. I'll wait to see how they implement microtuning. If it's a good implementation, I will be very tempted by this synth, even with the high price.
      Just now looking at photos of the keyboard and module versions, I see that there are LOTS more knobs on the keyboard version! That's a big deal. Thank you for pointing this out.
