- Had a chance to get in an Old Town Sportsman Autopilot 120 with the MinnKota trolling motor with spot-lock at the Strictly Sail booth at the Cincy Boat Show. It has never appealed to me to have a motor on my kayak, but I get it now! The convenience of “driving” the boat from a remote control or foot pedal steering and the ability to set the motor to maintain a heading or hold a position is so cool! The Old Town Sportsman line of kayaks ranges from pedal kayaks, regular motor kayaks, this fancy spot-lock motor version, and the newest “ePDL” version that is a really cool hybrid between motor and pedal power (video walkthrough of that kayak with the Old Town rep coming soon!).

Loving my 136 , I literally sold my bass boat and run my kayak only . Its been great
I went from a Lynx to an AP120 and it’s abig game changer for bass tournaments. The spot lock feature makes fishing in the wind effortless. I would say during a tournament I’m making 35% more cast. The autopilot feature will take you to your next spot while you change lure or eat lunch. It’s heavy and I use a trailer. The Lynx was a great boat especially where you can’t use a trailer to launch. I don’t get as much exercise with the AP but I’m catching a lot more fish. I use a 100 amp hour battery and I can cover around 15 miles of travel.
I still have years to go before I can afford a truck/trailer/motorized kayak deal, but the Lynx is such a great option to have for those of us who have to car-top! Technology will have advanced so much by the time I can afford it, my new kayak will probably fly! 🤣
