    11:05, would I be right to say that via the BIDMAS method the minus would be considered first before the translation of +6?

    Howm can i get from 1/x to -x/x+2?

    • @TLMaths
      @TLMaths  Год назад +3

      Use polynomial division on -x/(x+2) to get -1 + 2/(x+2).
      So starting with y = 1/x
      Stretch parallel to the y-axis factor 2:
      y = 2/x
      Translate by the vector [-2,-1]
      y = 2/(x+2) - 1
      which is the same as
      y = -1 + 2/(x+2) = -x/(x+2)

    I'm having trouble deriving what y = 1 /2-x would look like from y = 1 /x.
    if i do y = 1/-x first i get the y = 1/x reflected in the y -axis, which is fine, but then if i add the 2
    (y =1/2-x) i get a translation of 2 spaces left, which is incorrect, it should be 2 spaces right.
    if i do y = 1/x-2 first i get a translation 2 units right, which is fine, but then when i multiply the bottom by -1 i get y = 1 / 2 - x, and since we have multiplied the x by -1, we reflect in the y-axis and get y = 1/2-x as being y = 1/-x translated 2 to the left.
    can you explain how you would go about doing it so that you get the right answer, and what i am doing wrong.

      1/x
      Translate the graph by the vector [-2,0], replaces the x with x+2
      1/(x+2)
      which is the same as 1/(2+x)
      Then reflect in the y-axis, which replaces the x with -x.
      1/(2-x)
