I have fibroids too. My second time having them. I was on birth control from 17 to 21. I had surgery in 2006 to remove them initially. They grew back. What women don't know is that fibroids love estrogen. Most of us have hormonal imbalances. I know I'm estrogen heavy. I didn't know I had fibroids until I had a pap smear and they were found. My cycles have always been regular and fibroids didn't stop no show, ok?! Fibroids run in my family. I started doing research on holistic methods to shrink my fibroids. My suggestion is to look into chasteberry, burdock root. Just look into holistic approaches. I have multiple fibrods and on top of that my uterus is misshapen and tilted. I never had an issue with my surgery, but I don't want another one. So, 2023 I'm going to cut out diary and get on the road to shrinking these bad boys. I'm 44 with no kids, and I really don't want kids anyway. I wish you much love to you and Corey on your conception journey. Relax, don't put pressure on yourself. Let God. And you can possibly still have a natural birth. Sending you well wishes on your surgery. ❤️

I had a 14cm removed in July of 2020. Mine came out of nowhere in March of 2020. When they found it in March I had just been to the obgyn in mid Feb and my exam was clear. After being on birth control for 3 weeks, the ultrasound showed a fibroid that measured about 8cm.
Dr. Destephano at Mayo Clinic did my surgery. He and his team were great. Being able to have children has been a challenge for us between the fibroid and hormone levels that were off. We welcomed our first little boy in September. 💙
Prayers for you and your family!

I had to get a whole blood transfusion due to my anemia. I had no idea that I had fibroids until, like you, I went to the doctor because it was taking time for me to conceive. After the surgery, I've had such a relief on my periods! Not only that, I conceived almost immediately after healing. I wish you the best during your procedure and recovery.
Also wanted to add that I have NEVER in my life taken any form of birth control and I had multiple fibroids. I think it's due to estrogen levels, which AA women tend to have higher levels of.

Briefly my fibroid story & overcoming infertility:
Hi jasmine thank you for sharing im actually in the process of starting RUclips for this very reason to share my story in hopes to help other women and give them hope.when I was 29 I was diagnosed with fibroids several doctors kept telling me they didn’t believe my fibroid was causing infertility. My husband and I had been together for 13 years and never once had I been pregnant. This year 2022 I decided to find a new doctor she’s a black younger doctor and was the first to show me so much empathy she took the time to listen to my concerns and told me she could perform a laparoscopic myomectomy (key hole and one small incision on the bikini line) on me to remove my fibroid. I decided to have surgery and what she removed was not the size other docs had been telling me I was told my fibroid was 6cm but had shrunk to 3cm. When I had surgery she removed a 10cm fibroid which clearly was the reason for my fertility struggles. 3 months after surgery my husband and I was surprised with a positive pregnancy test after 13 years. We’ll welcome our baby boy in June 2023. Their is hope ladies God blessed me with finding an amazing doc and we were blessed with the conception of our baby.❤

Then after research & talking to my family, I found out my mother, sister, several aunts & cousins have them! 5 ladies in my family had hysterectomies. I had all these symptoms too. At this point, at 36, I decided this year in 2023, I’m having a hysterectomy. I do not want to deal with the periods & pain & I have lots of nieces & nephews to love. I also don’t want to do an ablation or myomectomy & they grow back in a few years.

Wow! I had an abdominal myomectomy 2 months ago. They had to do a c-section cut. I stayed 2 days in the hospital. My husband stayed with me and I had my mom and aunt spend 2 weeks with me. My experience with the surgery was A1! Barely felt pain when I woke up. I didn't need to use the narcotics because my OBGYN had them use the numbing thing on my stomach. I was able to return to work by the 4th week! But girl!! MY FIRST PERIOD AFTER SURGERY WAS A NIGHTMARE!! I was in sooo much pain like I've never had cramps like this before! Good thing I had the narcotics cuz baby!! It was super heavy too.
I was so scared to for my second period but it was lighter and no pain. Just got off my third period and there was no pain and even lighter! I'm so happy that I no longer have to deal with painful cramps. I also had a high stomach and would be peeing often. I no longer feel a pressure in my vaginal area and I no longer feel tired. I have more energy.

I have my appointment in February to basically confirm that I have fibroids. My mom has them, and my symptoms match yours and hers. My husband and I want to start conceiving, but my periods have been both too short and too long- on and off. If I have them for sure, I pray that I don't have to have surgery and will look into other options - if they are small enough.
Also, my mom and I have never been on birth control. My mom never had her fibroids removed and was able to birth 5 healthy children - no miscarriages. However, I think it's because she started having children at 21 (in 1996). I think most of us African American women have them because of what our enslaved female ancestors were fed. They didn't have access to nutritional foods. While it is a blessing they could still conceive, I think generationally, those unhealthy foods and the steroids in the foods that we had access to during segregation in the U.S. has done a bit of damage to our bodies (which affect our babies when we are pregnant as well). I only come to this conclusion because I don't know any African women born and raised in Africa who have these same issues.

Praying your surgery and fertility journey goes smoothly! I have a pedunculate fibroid so my situation is very different. It is outside my uterus hanging on a stalk. Think tree limb. I didn’t find out I had one until I got pregnant. It was monitored closely throughout the pregnancy and grew because hormones cause them to grow according to my OB. So by the end of the pregnancy it was a little smaller than a lemon. Thankfully, it reduced dramatically after birth. I had a vaginal delivery, and no issues during pregnancy. It got so small that no one will remove it. The last time I had it checked it was less than a centimeter big. I realized that I was very blessed after learning that women in my family had them worse than me and had bad symptoms. I didn’t have any symptoms. No heavy bleeding or anything that would alert me to it. I had already been off of BC for a long time before the pregnancy. I just felt it wasn’t good to be on it and used condoms solely until I was ready to get pregnant. After doing research on my own, I too believe it is hormones. I cut out certain things from my diet, used less toxic products on my body (not all the way there).I really think this is why I don’t have more and why the one I had got so small. I’m no longer feeding it 🤷🏽‍♀️ blessings to all who have this issue.

It’s so crazy that we have almost the exact same story, down to the fibroid size and number of years taking birth control. I really feel like the bc played a big role in my diagnosis. I’m planning to have my procedure soon. I’m so glad you posted your story. It definitely calmed my nerves some. Thank you for posting and good luck with everything ❤.

I have fibroids as well. I agree with you that being on birth control for a while it causes fibroids because no one else in my family has them. I have been on birth control since I was 18 and now I'm 26. Mine are small at the moment but at my last visit once has grown to the size of a grape tomato. Thank you for sharing this video and telling your story. I am praying that your surgery goes well and you have speedy recovery!

This is truly a testimony I tell you God is so awesome I know that for me it was truly a journey I didn’t even know what was going on I didn’t even have a really heavy periods mine was more on the back pain and really couldn’t get out of bed for like two weeks which was crazy and then also suffered with Endometriosis so that was something else that the doctor threw on top of me but two weeks before me getting the same surgery because I had two that was size of a grapefruit I prayed and I said Lord I don’t want this surgery and I drunk some holy oil three days later they were healed and they weren’t even there I went to the hospital in pain and there was none I say that to say that’s my testimony and what the Lord has done for meAnd there’s nothing too hard that he would not do for you so I stand in prayer with you I touch and agree with you that all is well this is just a preparation process to prepare your body for birth going to be praying for you and all will be OK

Hi Jasmine. Thank you for sharing your story and I’m sorry you are going through this. In January of this year, I had 16 fibroids removed, the biggest being the size of a grapefruit (I was told I only had 2 fibroids). Fibroids is a chronic, silent illness which is often poo poo’d because of its link to periods, which we are told is ‘normal’ (it is not). Since my op, I have shared my story both on RUclips and Instagram, in the hopes of teaching and advocating for women. My fibroids lead to infertility and chronic pain, which wasn’t properly addressed for 6 years. I had the open myomectomy and I’m so thankful I did. Testimony pending girl. Prayers to you.

I just had surgery 2 week's ago December 13th. I had 8 fibroids that was shown on the sonogram, I'll find out the exact amount when I go to my first post op appointment and my uterus was the size of a 6th pregnancy. My uterus was huge!! The fibroids was huge as well. I had a hysterectomy, I wasn't having anymore kids so hysterectomy was the best option for me.
Just make sure you know that they can grow back and no one can tell you how long it takes for them to grow back. There is not enough awareness and no proven fact on why we get them. Black women are mostly affected, I honestly feel like it's something in our genetics as women of color. I pray your surgery and recovery goes well.

I am 47 and I have a 26 year old daughter (my only child). I have never been on any form of birth control. But a few years ago, I was having heavy periods (which I thought was leading me into menopause) and lower back pains (which I thought was breast cancer, because continual lower back pain is one of the sign for breast cancer). But it was not. I was told I had fibroids. It’s very small, so I will keep watching it, with my yearly check ups and see how it does me into menopause, cause that’s coming soon🙋🏾‍♀️But all the best, and I am praying for a speedy recovery for you❤️🌹

I found out earlier this year that I had a fibroid that was 9cm after trying to figure out why I wasn’t getting pregnant. I’ve been so afraid to get the surgery done because I’ve never had surgery before. About 3 weeks ago I found out I was pregnant 9 weeks pregnant after experiencing heavy bleeding and clots even though I wasn’t on my period yet. Come to find out I had a miscarriage. The hospital told me that the fibroid grew to 11cm and is still growing because of the hormones. The loss of my first pregnancy was hard but I understood why and it ultimately helped me realize that I need the surgery if I ever wanted to have a child. Thank you for sharing your journey ❤

Thank you so much for making this video! It's definitely informative and information that we need to digest and be vigilant of. I too have always been vigilant of going to doctor appointments, but fibroids weren't even on my radar. I found out I had them when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. By then, of course they weren't going to remove them so they had to be closely monitored throughout my pregnancy. And they affected it because I got really sick with severe pain (baby was fine, I was the one being affected) and ended up having a C-section because one of them was blocking my daughter's exit out. Like, literally her little head was resting on one in the womb! They ended up removing them at the same time they took my daughter out during the C-section. I was so relieved that one, they hadn't done anything to her while inside and two, they were able to take them out. But, they do grow back y'all. At this point, I know how to get them smaller (they are multiple but not as big as yours) and keep them from getting inflamed; staying away from a lot of alcohol, sugar and caffeine and eating a mostly whole foods diet. Again, thank you for bringing attention to this. She's right, it is SO important that we be on top of our health ladies. Don't ignore your symptoms and be your own advocate and ask for an ultrasound. Have these discussions with your doctor unabashedly. Blessings!

Somehow I stumbled upon your video. I have watched so many videos about women and fibroids. Crazy thing is that I didn't know that I had one either. Heavy periods, back aches, pain before periods were my symptoms, but I figured that it was normal. Until I couldn't get pregnant neither. Similar to you! I found out that I had 1 fibroid inside my uterus in Nov. 2021. It was about 5.5 cm at that time. With all of tests that I had to do and just time passing so quickly, I didn't have my surgery until Oct. 2022. It had grown to be 8.3 cm. Crazy how fast they grow! Anyway, I had a c-section and has to get my uterus cut open for him to remove it. 2 months post surgery, God is good! Just waiting on his timing for us to have a baby. Thanks for sharing your story and may God grant your heart's desires. Oh yeah, take it easy on your recovery. I'm still recovering because I didn't listen and rushed back to moving too soon.

I’m glad you mentioned your opinion on how you think you got them because I was told I have fibroids a couple of years ago and I also believe I got them because I was on birth control for so long! They weren’t causing me any issues though and the only reason I found out I have them was because I had to get an ultrasound to check on the placement of my iud after my dr couldn’t find the string at my checkup. Haven’t done anything about it since they weren’t causing me issues but I got pregnant very soon after I got off of birth control and the fibroids actually shrunk while I was pregnant. Good luck on your journey and thanks for sharing and spreading awareness!

Thank you for sharing your story. Hearing your story and reading the comments, it seems like so many AA women are affected by fibroids. Thank you for opening up and starting this very necessary conversation. I first found out I had fibroids years ago and got a myomectomy and got my 3 fibroids removed. However, my fibroids came back and now I’m considering getting the embolization surgery due to anemia and multiple fibroids that are causing really heavy cycles and lots of monthly pain. I pray all goes well with your surgery and that yours won’t grow back and that you and your husband will be able to easily conceive in Jesus’ name🙏🏾

Hey Sis, i just wanted to come on here and share as well. I need for all women to get checked out even if they don’t have symptoms. I didn’t have symptoms; well the “normal” symptoms we read about. What made me realize i had fibroids was because i was working out and i just felt heavy! It felt like i had a bowling ball in my stomach, (especially when i would do like planks). And i would be exhausted during workouts. I knew when i started i was out of shape but 4 months in, I knew i shouldn’t be as exhausted as i was smh. Unfortunately i had an idea it was fibroids because my mom, my aunt, some cousins had them (it is partly hereditary too). So i already knew going in. I had a doctor tell me that since i didn’t have all the “normal” symptoms and i wasn’t actively trying to get pregnant; to not do anything. And she didn’t want to do anything. So i checked with another OB/GYN and i listened to hellof other stories and testimonies looking for someone who said they didn’t have the symptoms and what they did. This particular person she didn’t do anything and her fibroids grew so bad that she eventually was forced to get surgery. So i didn’t want to wait for something bad to happen for myself. So i did have a myomectomy 10/2021. And so far I’m still in the clear. But I did want to share because my story is a little more rare and i want to spread the word. I wish you the best of luck!!!

So true! My only symptom was a week bladder and I was blaming that on just getting older. So everyone does not have heavy cycles. These fibroids sneak on the uterus and by the time you know you have them they are huge!!

Praying for God’s protection during your surgery and his healing mercy during recovery. Make sure to take your time during recovery. Even if you feel like you are good still take your time. You’ll be healing from the inside out and it takes time for those layers of muscle to heal. Also, not a pretty subject but be aware of gas buildup. Try to start walking around as soon as you can. (slowly of course)
You will do great. You have educated yourself and have an amazing support system! 😊❤🙏🏾

Jasmine, I've emailed you with the subject matter "God's Timing - Fertility, Fibroids and So Much More". There is health innovation that allows fibroids and so much more including fertility issues to be full-reversed without surgery, invasive procedures or drugs. The causes have been identified. They never become an issue again after the program! Just as importantly, the health of mothers and children is maximized in ways not seen before. I want to work with you to get the word out about this little-known and highly successful program. Imagine not worrying about them growing again. Best to you both. -Rama

Me too and Yes it’s common in Black and Hispanic women sometimes having multiple surgeries but I would recommend after initial surgery, holistic methods to shrink them in the case they grow back..as opposed to getting hysterectomy. A change in diet is also helpful. No meat, soy, sodium, dairy, sugar, caffeine..mainly whole foods and vegetables.
