You mentioned that if there were a draft today, American 18 - 25 years olds would not be physically or mentally ready. If drafted, they wouldn't just be handed a weapon and sent out to fight. They will all be trained first. The 3 million per year drafted in WWII spent months training before they were deployed.

You are absolutely right about the physical and mental condition of US youth being very poorly qualified for the military. If young people were drafted today, it would require a hell of a rough boot camp for them to be even close to ready. I think this fact has been recognized by many in the government and military and the movement has begun away from a woke, politically correct fighting force to one that gets back to practical and realistic.

@barsandbarbells2022 Phil, regarding your comment at 9:40 -ish about the highway system,...
When Dwight D. Eisenhower was a young soldier, his unit once had to go from the East Coast to the West Coast.
That overland journey took over 30 days and it made a dramatic impression upon him. When he was the Supreme Commander during World War II he saw the German Autobahn.
These two transport related situations motivated him to have the Federal highway system created with a focus of rapidly transporting personnel and materiel for wartime purposes after he became President.

You mentioned that a Russian invasion would be through Alaska and then through Canada. Take a look at a topographic map of Alaska and western Canada. Alaska's coast is backed by mountain ranges just inland and then there's the Rocky Mountain range that extends through the states and north through Canada. Our neighbors to the north would be well backed. Plus coming through Canada from the north would be a problem with the vast expanse of forest, plus the polar coast.

u2 are my 2nd favorite canuk youtubers, Verdy being 1st she has that thick French accent. but we need that Canadian iron, friends. the U.S. learned after WW2 that Germany had established themselves in south American and was building infrastructure down there. after Russia the U.S. was next. we all have guns, but we do not all support the same thing. this led to Asians and Germans living in the USA being put into camps so not to become saboteurs, during WW2. just look to Americas mountains and rivers and you'll find Germans and Indians, lol. Missouri and its rivers are called "little Rhineland" because of German migration to the U.S. so much to say but have said enough.

This really sucks for you guys in Canada but if Russia wanted to invade the US one of their best options would be to either go over the north pole or through Alaska either way going straight through Canada in the process. Of course the US would move into Canada to stop them which would likely keep the bulk of the fighting in Canada. But of course we have our bases in Europe, Japan, S. Korea, ect. and our NATO allies which would be ways we could strike into Russia making them not want to commit troops to fighting in Canada.
Several points about the military budget of the US. A huge amount of that budget goes to paying salaries and good quality of life for service members and their families. Of course we do spend huge amounts on weapons, technology, and planes, tanks, ect. Another big expense is continuous research and development.
