Who else was expecting a Doug Tabbutt story?
JFC I was praying for Doug
I was, now I’m disappointed.
I was hoping it wasn't Doug tbh lol I thought the same thing when I saw the thumbnail
Porsche, scammer getting played, that had me think it was Doug 100%
Need more Doug stories, less of this guy ☝️
I would have messaged the scammer after you bough the car with just a picture you and the car with the caption “thanks man I love the car!”
That would have been AWESOME!
When I read the title “car scammer gets PLAYED”, I thought the scammer ended up behind bars or something, but apparently said scammer gets to continue trying to defraud people
Yup white collar crime the best hustle. They would probably drop charges or give community service if police got involved anyway
The click baits are getting ridiculous
Who the fk buys a car without talking to them on the fone. Do people really do that???
Yup. AND he talks about selling the car for double what he paid.
Hmmm
Why would he try to expose the scammer lol. He cares about himself lol. Fuck who ever else gets scammed
“Everyone goes on there (internet) and thinks they’re safe and protected.”
Yeah… no. Literally no one thinks that 😂
Not a good way to start a video. He is quite full of himself.🙄
Actually a lot of people think that.
He sounds like an easy mark. Talked about pix of title & drivers license, but obviously never did.
Saw the title and immediately expected to see Doug Tabbutt, got a surprise there.
Vinwiki backround looking like a storage wars auction pic
Yuuuuuuppppp!
That poor scammer didn't even get a commission.
I would’ve sent a picture to the scammer of the car after i purchased it
Better yet, find a way to show up for the deal in the car he’s supposedly buying!
@@pjtemplinthis is what I though would happen! Haha
Scammers are the worst scum.
so are flippers
It’s always a shame when someone says a car that was kind of a dream to them , because of the money.
But I’m really glad that you didn’t get scammed!
Truly amazing he figured all that out
Moral of the story: See a car that you like that you want to own? Strike a deal with a fake listing (that you set up) and then reach out to the authentic owner asking to verify the purchase. BOOM. Just like that, you have their attention.
I, too, watched the video
i think he was saying that YOU, YOURSELF make a fake listing while you know the real owner.@@jeremyd.2156
That scammer must of been someone close to the owner. How did he get the invoice... 🤔
How did you not send the scammer a pic of you with the car, smiling and waving?
Whew, it sounds like Doug has a cold or something today. Hope you feel better soon buddy!
I thought with 1000% certainty that this would be Doug telling this story.
Wait, what? Thought "Paint to Sample" was a special order color car....
Porsche has colors that are avail on certain cars but they charge you extra for them - it's an extra cost option for the car like sport chrono or nav but the color is avail to anyone. PTS is you want your car to be painted a specific color (any color) that's not available for that car at that time and Porsche must accept the PTS order. Porsche would accept an extra cost option order without issue. Granite Green (Felsengruen) Metallic was an extra cost color option in 1987 & 1988 on 911s & 928s.
I would have thanked him for sending the car over and send him a picture 😂
Should have sent a picture of yourself in the car to the scammer and said Thanks dude!
"Everyone thinks they go on there and are safe and protected..."
No one thinks. No one should think that.
And yet, a lot of people do think just that.
@@daexion Full disclosure, I bought my 911 site unseen from a private party on the internet.
What a cool story! I can’t believe you bought the car from getting in contact with the owner to confirm it was a scam. Very good story
Why isn’t this a Doug tabbutt story?
@@codyfrance2537 it’s called being a good storyteller
Me in 1993 to my high school buddies. " When those things depreciate to under 10k I swear to God I'm gonna own one."
Me in 2023 "Awww, shoot "
Edit: that color exterior with that color interior. I would do unspeakable things....
That was dumb
Have you ever been scammed on a car?
Yep. A 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab, 4x4, long bed. It had been hit in the drivers side and totaled. Someone rebuilt it and got a salvage title. It then went to small town used car dealership and then changed hands 10 or 12 times between 6 different dealers over 9 months and eventually the title got washed. It did not have a salvage title when I bought it.
Yea 05 Acura tl online. They had fake ebay web address emails, vin, the whole nine. Sent money and poof no car, call eBay they aren't liable because it wasn't really ebay. Email I responded to sent me to a server ran by scammers so when u think u chatting with ebay service it's really the scammer. Got me good never got the car or money back. Bad day. Oh and was looking for car because wrecked mine driving home from work. So was out a car and the money.
Ed I know where a Lamborghini is about an hour south of atlanta in a sketchy area it’s a white convertible with a black top.
I was definitely thinking this was going to be the story on the GM at the South Shore Porsche dealerships recent quid pro quo attempt gone awry.
I was selling a BMW 335i, and someone from Florida (Im in Texas) contacted me, said they had a dealer license, and could send me a cashiers check. They then proceeded to tell me to take the ad down, and they would send the check and a person to pick the car up. It just sounded too rehearsed, like they were checking off things to do and things to say. Also wondered why someone in Florida would be looking through Texas car ads.
I never responded, and they never contacted me again. They were just too bossy about everything.
so years ago I had to sell a car I really enjoyed for financial reasons. A year later I was in a better life position and was looking for another. Had the buyers email and he wasnt interested in selling. about a year after that Im browsing Craigslist and there's my car. I still had the email and contacted the guy to make a deal. He tells me the car had been stolen a week before! So I send him the CL ad, and contact the new "seller" to do a meetup and involve law enforcement, but I get ghosted. Turns out the owner also contacted this clown, telling him he'd owned the car and basically this gave the thief enough warning to bail. Wasnt too long after that, the car was recovered, or the wrecked and stripped carcass of it. So good news, I avoided getting screwed, insurance paid off the owner. But my ugly but reliable shelby daytona would never annoy executives in my work parking lot again. :(
I was hoping he was gonna say he sent a picture of the car to the scammer with his nuts on the steering wheel
The Auto Toy Store is still there after all this time. Cars still packed in.
wow what a car to end up beating a scam and actually buying. it's really a stunning color combo for that model.
would've loved to hear about messing with the scammer after the real purchase
Interesting... So that's the infamous Ryan Friedman who's cars I see online all the time. He keep a fabulous inventory. Tell him to stop taking photos of his cars in dark concrete dungeons.
I was hoping for some scammer payback in the story…
I expectation was this guy would agree to meet scammer and pull up in this car, surprising the scammer before cops appeared to arrest him. THAT would have been a great ending.
Oddly enough this guy gives me scammer vibes 😅
He’s a salesman.
I get that from Ed. Creepy salesman vibe.
Right, he's a dealer, so there ya go.
Oh, send me a picture with today’s newspaper next to the Vin number.
The story brilliant thanks
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SCAMMER AND THE LISTING???
While things turned out well, I hope you reported the scammer to eBay and/or law enforcement. The unseasoned enthusiast depends on savvy people like yourself to call out the lowlife that preys on the well-meaning uninitiated. It seems like this was like identity theft of a car, meaning whomever 'listed it' had access to records, pics and specific info etc.MAkes for a great story, but that c@#k sucker is probably still at it. I would like to see part two of this story when the criminal gets busted.
Lol reminds me of when I bought my 86 560SL Mercedes from gateway. I couldn’t test drive it, they drove it with me in the passenger seat. I did my inspection, made an offer and she’s in my garage
“ a perfect mint car “ - with a rebuilt engine?? That isn’t a mint car!
The dealership I work at, Porsche Santa Clarita, bought this car for our museum collection. It is a stunning car.
Cool, but what a horrendous color!
@@UberLummox The car was custom ordered 1991 from the early 1990s so the 1980s color favorites had not wound down yet... you had to be there.
@@eclewis1 Oh, I was very much there....unfortunately!
Sexy car though.
UGH that tone of purple is tacky as fuct.
Half the world does not have face time as they run Android phones.
When did Doug had plastic surgery?
Dude that thing is a gem
If there is any doubt, there is no doubt.
He waited so many years to tell this "Great Value Doug" story.
this guy comes off as a used car dealer I dont want to do business with.
Where did the scammer get the pictures if it wasn't for sale?
Great story! Plus, he’s a great storyteller!
Another great VinWiki story, Ed!
.
Was expecting doug 🤣
Send the scammer a picture of him with the car and tell him thanks for the sale
Doug looks...different.
I really miss The Toy Store in Ft Lauderdale! I ended up buying a place there 15years ago. Cool story. Thank you.
Ryan Friedman, you have one hell of a site Bro! Super story.
Why did it need an engine rebuild??
How did the scammer get ther service record paperwork?
0:12 said no one ever
80s-90s 911s... or as I like to call them, widowmakers.
Hell ya!
Plot twist. The scammer was one of the mechanics. How else would they get the receipt?
On your way to 2 million. Good luck!!!
Speaking of things that just seem to be a bit off, is the fact that the car has been extremely well taken care of and professionally serviced it's entire life. It has been spending the last 20 years in a garage being driven so sparingly the engine had to be rebuilt????? Having the engine rebuilt generally means it's worn out or damaged and that is strange for a car that has been claimed to be so well taken care of and driven so little, but then again we are talking about Porsche owners here, a group of people who love to pay more and get less. I have driven over 50 different 356's while working as a mechanic and anyone who is willing to spend 6 figures on a at best 90 hp 356 as opposed to spending $50,000 on a replica that looks the same but with performance that will kick the crap out of most modern 911's has more money than brains, unless they bought a couple of 356's for cheep back when they were considered a glorified VW bug and sold them for a few hundred thousand dollars, then they are geniuses.
I wasn’t aware anyone’s thought it was safe to buy a car on the internet. I thought you were joking.
A lot of people do believe it is safe to buy a car on the Internet.
It is if you know what you’re doing
It looks like the scammer was not scammed at all.
Great advise!!!!!!!!!
Doug always tells a good story!!! 👍👍🙂
What
Plot twist, it was the mechanic with access to the title that was left in the glovebox.
I doubt he coulda fit in there.
Man you should have sent pictures to the scammer after you acquired the car and told him thank you or really messed with him and made him think you stole it. That would have been hilarious and a well deserved ending. Who knows maybe it would have stopped him from ever scamming again bc he would have thought it was a message from god.
I can tell you I love Porsche but I have no interest in owning a 1997 911 Carrera 4 after doing a oil change for a good customer. Beautiful car but the oil service is complicated lol 😂
“Ya know?”
Brilliant
Where's Doug?
I was like #9
Guy lost his credibility quick with his opening statement saying everyone thinks they’re safe/protected on the internet. Literally no one thinks that.
When you think you're about to watch true crime but its a filler with a love story instead...
Nice
Clickbait title. The scammer didn't get played at all. who cares if they helped sell a car....
Purple and white?
Someone need to teach dude how to use “long story short” every time he uses he actually make the story longer. The first time at 0:28 he says it then rambles for more than half a minute without even starting the story.
I hope his daughters are ok. He said he “ I had 2 daughters ” instead of “I have 2 daughters”. This is definitely pedantic, but it made it seem as if they aren’t his daughters anymore😢
Where's the Justice? Did you reported it to police? Crap story if you didn't which would make you a typical used car salesman.
maybe post the scammers info that you do have?
The scammer probably sold that car to 50-100 people. I saved my friend from a scam. He wanted a Bike, a Suzuki, Yamahahaha, I can't remember. It was an $8,000 motorcycle for $2,500! My friend was excited, to say the least. He was on his way to Wally World to send a money gram. To never be seen again, like the non existing motorcycle.
The guy was in Texas on business. Yea, right. The bike was in Florida. So i told my friend, tell the guy you're only 8 hours from the bike, and you'll be there in the morning with cash! "No No No! That's not the deal!". So i saved my friend $2,500. Which is not much to him as far as l9sing it, he's well off. But, he's very conservative with his money, made good investments, and worked his whole life. Paid cash for a Brand New, 1976 Z-28 when he was 16.
But that scammer probably sold tgat bike to 20-30-50 people.
42 people bought that Porsche
I, 100%
Seth's Car Hacks
Who else thinks Ryan Friedman is one of the cringiest dealers in the business?
So your mechanic saved you from getting scammed hooked you up with the real owner and then you ripped him off by paying him less than what you were gonna pay the scammer and you’re happy about doubling your money on it morally, you should’ve gave the owner what you were gonna pay the scammer at least
That right there sums up the only reason people like this even want to tell the story. What he bought or sold it for had no relevance to the story but he just couldn’t help himself. It shows where his moral compass is pointed.
who got scammed in the end? original owner of the car? such a clickbait video from a reseller.
I love how he talks about it like the dude PURPOSEFULLY targeted him & tried to scam him when he was the one who initiated contact LMAO. Not saying it wasn't a dick move on the scammers part but dude is taking it way too personally lol.
Don't listen to the comment below.
The lesson I learned here from this experience is don’t buy a Porsche. This car is low mileage well taken care of full documentation and it’s already had to have the engine rebuilt. Yeah don’t buy a Porsche their junk. They may look good but they are junk.
RUclips user gets PLAYED.. By a clickbait title on a video that has nothing to with a scammer getting a dose of justice sauce. At least the guy got to brag about the mad bank he made from it though. Do better VINwiki.
Wow, for the first time in my life I feel like a vinwiki story has both wasted my time and clickbaited me. Do better
This story is pretty lame and title is garbage.
Can we stop with the click bait titles... Scammer didn't get played. He just didn't scam 🤨🥱
great story . @gt3point2
